Mission: Conduct intensive family empowerment workshops in economically challenged communities to prevent the voluntary placement of underprivileged children into the foster care child welfare system. Such workshops will involve adult counseling in effective methods of child discipline without corporal punishment, facilitating effective communication among family members, overcoming substance abuse problems, building effective family networks, and coping strategies for the special problems of teenagers. Improve the quality of federal, state and local social welfare services by coordinating with other community-based agencies and organizations that provide complementary services, thereby ensuring that families participating in the programs receive fully supportive services in their transition out of crisis.

I have a heart for many of those who fall through the cracks of our society. In the Spirit of the Children, Inc. is an organization that works with the very vulnerable population of young adults who transition, from the foster-care system in New York, to life as independent adults. I have had the opportunity to support this worthy cause and the important work of the organization.
