Mission: Florence crittenton services (fcs) will promote health and hope for tomorrow's children by providing comprehensive health, educational and social services for single pregnant and non-pregnant adolescents, women and their families.
Programs: The fcs maternity program is a 32-bed residential program which is home to pregnant adolescents and young women who need a safe and healthy environment during pregnancy through delivery of their baby. Clients are high-risk, single young women and adolescents 10 years of age and older who often are living in crisis. They may be homeless, victims of sexual and/or physical abuse and neglect, or may be substance abusers desperate to deliver a drug-free infant. Residents receive counseling, coordination of medical care, substance abuse intervention/treatment programming, educational/vocational services, spiritual enrichment opportunities, parenting support and education, adoption support, case management and follow up services. 69 pregnant clients were served in 2016/17 for 4,503 days of residential care, and 19 young families were served in the aftercare component. Outcomes measured for fy 16/17 show:100% of all admissions including those who were previously homeless reported they were provided with satisfactory accommodations and personal provisions and having their immediate needs met. 92% of babies born had a birth weight greater than 5 pounds. Average birth weight was 6 pounds + 6 ounces. Apgar scores were 87% 7 at one minute and 91% 7 at 5 minutes, with 1 baby stillborn/premature. 97% of residents increased knowledge of substance abuse education and prevention as evidenced by participation during groups and by comprehensive of materials. 93% of all residents remained drug free during residency: total # of drug screens = 122; 20 were positive or repeat positive 10 clients were referred to treatment; # of relapses = 496% of babies born to fcs residents were drug free at birth100% of sample group avoided repeat pregnancies during 1st year follow up100% of residents received initial vocational//ed assessment86% of 2016/17 maternity program clients improved educational and vocational skills through active participation in the fcs vocational/educational program: 69 clients in maternity program 14 mothers in sarahs house and 10 clients in legacy hall100% of school age residents showed an increase in middle or high school attendance63 clients increased knowledge on how to research jobs63 clients strengthened their interview skills and interview prep assistance 3 clients prepared for the ged3 clients advanced to college12 clients secured on-campus jobs34 clients secured off-campus jobs63 clients increased knowledge of how to write a resume63 clients increased budgeting knowledge and banking skills 12 volunteered in the community81% of resident discharges were to environments with support and structure in place100% of babies in the follow up program (apep) achieved milestones according to ages & stages questionnaire89% of participants gained knowledge of parenting skills and early child development shown through pre-and post-testing94% of children had no substantiated case of child abuse or neglect84% of mothers scored adequate or above on both parenting competency skills and the visitation observation checklist
sarahs house mother-child program the purpose of this program is to assure a safe, supportive environment in which teen mothers in foster care can acquire the knowledge and skills to become effective parents and learn life skills that promote self-sufficiency. Sarahs house provides a 24-hour residential program for six adolescent mothers and their children who need placement together. In this fiscal year, the program served 18 foster care teen mothers and children for 3,386 days of service.
legacy hall preparation for adult living skills this independent living program focuses on prevention and is designed to aid non-pregnant at-risk females ages 16 21 in breaking the cycle of adolescent pregnancy, child abuse, substance abuse and neglect that are barriers to healthy adult living. The program services in a residential setting females who are aging out of the foster care system. In this fiscal year the program service 12 young women for 1,556 days of residential care.
