Thank-you LHCC for doing the community event on Saturday. My daughters enjoyed being outdoors and playing with their new friends, and I was happy to meet some mom's from the community. We love what you are doing for us families

The Learning Help Centers of Charlotte provides such a wonderful program. Not only do children from low income areas get extra help on their homework, but they also gain a mentor outside of their home that can positively influence their lives. So grateful to be a part of this organization!

I have been volunteering with LHCC for several years now. The founding family of this organization are wonderful and selfless people, that truly live in a way that embodies what it means to serve others. I was paired with a 6 year old boy that lacked confidence and struggled with reading comprehension. I have watched him grow to a much more confident and positive first grader, that is not only at or above his reading level, but excelling in math as well. While we work to serve these children each week, it is the volunteers that truly benefit from the relationship, as the children's joy is contagious. I feel blessed to be a part of this organization.

I have been blessed to work with B, a bright, eager to learn, little girl who loves to read. Our relationship serves as a wonderful example of how valuable timely interventions can be. B’s main challenge was that she could not answer questions about what she read. She was just sounding out words or guessing them based on the pictures in the book (quite clever of her), and frequently her pronunciation was incorrect. Yet, she’d persevere, desperately wanting to learn and to please her teachers.
Her difficulties were being blamed on the fact that English was her second language. After working with B for a few months, I suspected that further intervention was needed. LHCC came alongside her mother to help her get speech therapy for B through the school system. Her pronunciation is improving which is also helping her differentiate between similar sounding words! As she has been exposed to more literature and to field trips through LHCC, her ability to relate to what she is reading has expanded, also.
She is currently on grade level and her confidence is soaring. What a privilege it is to work with this beautiful little girl and begin to see the fruits of our labors. B has a distance to go, and I am so grateful that I get to continue her journey with her!

I work with an organization that partners groups of Jr. High and Sr. High students with nonprofits where the students can learn and be inspired to serve those in their spheres of influence. For the past few years, we have sent one group each summer to work with LHCC. Each year, our groups are very impressed with the wholistic vision of LHCC and passion for the needy that is in all of their staff. If you are looking for an organization to support who is doing important work in Charlotte or you are looking to find a place where you can join in with the serving of immigrants in Charlotte, LHCC is the perfect fit for you!

I helped out over the summer and make a connection with the leaders and children in camp. They have so much to offer children including academic and social help to become leaders, learners and active doers in their schools and homes. I would definitely want to volunteer again next year

I have been working with Learning Help Center of Charlotte for 14 months. It is a wonderful organization that puts the spiritual, emotional and academic needs of the children and their families first. The last 2 summers I have helped in their summer camp and during the school year, I have been tutoring a third (now fourth) grader. I have a terrific relationship with my third grader and it has been wonderful to see her not only grasp new concepts but also begin to flourish doing them. Her mother is very involved and after each tutoring session, I explain to her what she needs to work on to help her daughter succeed. It is a blessing to see the mom's earnest desire to have her daughter excel and it is the family's hope that this will be the first person EVER in their family to go to college.

My wife and I have been serving with LHCC for over a year.
We have done Tuesday evening tutoring and helped with summer camps for the past two summers. Our most precious moments have been when we received notes of gratitude from Z and V (the two students we tutored last year) at the end of the school year. We didn't sign up expecting the affirmation, but we were overwhelmed to hear of the huge difference we had made in their lives with our minimal effort. This ministry does so much with so little. We would encourage anyone to support it financially, but more importantly, with their time as a volunteer.

Our group came to help students over the summer with reading and we loved it! Your children are so sweet and we loved getting to know them. Thanks for doing for them what you are doing to help with their reading. Sincerely MC
