I really like the work that Learning Help Centers of Charlotte is doing in the community. The director and volunteers are passionate about the work they do and are dedicated and committed to the cause of helping those in need. I'm encouraged by the fact that this organization serves people in Charlotte, NC because this is the area that I grew up in. I'm excited to see what the organization does next and hope more people will see how they can contribute their time and/or money to what they are trying to do.
I have been impressed by this organizations passion for the families they help.
They have been feeding families for the past two or three months and do so with joy in ensuring everyone stays fed. Thank you
We have had the opportunity for the past few weeks of driving around and delivering meals to these precious families. It has been humbling to see the need, but also the appreciation for something we take for granted. A daily meal.
Please consider supporting this organization. If you have been a beneficiary of their incredible meals program of regular services, please give them a shout out and share a review.
Have loved volunteering at this ministry and helping the kids. There are opportunities to still help them in the evening
It is a privilege to work with an organization that helps not only children who are displaced from their native countries, but also with their parents. So many times we've watched both child and parent rejoice in the progress their child has made during a tutoring session!
LHCC is unique in that they begin working with preK children so that they are reading ready as well as working with elementary students to help them be ready for the demands of upper grades.
I worked with B**** for 4 years now and have seen her go from 1st grader who could not read to a 5th grader who can read and comprehend not only literature, but also directions and word problems. She's become a self-starter and an encourager to other children.
LHCC is helping so many who would drop through the cracks due to language and cultural barriers. Charlotte - Mecklenburg is fortunate to have an organization that works to help parents raise responsible, competent citizens!
I have been blessed to work with B, a bright, eager to learn, little girl who loves to read. Our relationship serves as a wonderful example of how valuable timely interventions can be. B’s main challenge was that she could not answer questions about what she read. She was just sounding out words or guessing them based on the pictures in the book (quite clever of her), and frequently her pronunciation was incorrect. Yet, she’d persevere, desperately wanting to learn and to please her teachers.
Her difficulties were being blamed on the fact that English was her second language. After working with B for a few months, I suspected that further intervention was needed. LHCC came alongside her mother to help her get speech therapy for B through the school system. Her pronunciation is improving which is also helping her differentiate between similar sounding words! As she has been exposed to more literature and to field trips through LHCC, her ability to relate to what she is reading has expanded, also.
She is currently on grade level and her confidence is soaring. What a privilege it is to work with this beautiful little girl and begin to see the fruits of our labors. B has a distance to go, and I am so grateful that I get to continue her journey with her!
Bendiciones y gracias
I want to express my gratitude for the great support that my son, Exequiel G, has already graduated from this prestigious and well known organization for so many ways, to be a great support now and in the future. I also want to thank you for the opportunity he has had to participate as a volunteer in your organization. Its definitely an important positive impact on the lives of children and their parents
Completely agree with the volunteer. This is a valuable experience with children and their parents. Making a difference
great organization, i had a great time with the kids, and the way we worked with them
We get to learn from interesting people who come and tell us about their programs. It is a good experience for us moms
LHCC has given me an opportunity to connect with students and families I would not have otherwise. I can feel the love and care for these children every time I am a tutor. I enjoy building relationships with the children!
it is a great opportunity to learn from each other. All of us learn something new every time we get together. A safe place to lift each other up. And a great opportunity to influence the new generations!!!!
Volunteering with LHCC has been a wonderful experience. I have seen a great improvement in my student's language and math skills and have formed a relationship with her and her family. If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity that is both challenging and rewarding, LHCC is the place for you!
LHCC is one of the most rewarding non-profits for which I have served for almost 3 years. The children come each week eager to learn and the volunteers are blessed to see them grow and reach greater heights week after week. The children and their families are a part of a christian learning environment and have a place they can find support of classroom activities as well as participate in enrichment. Come join the after-school program and see for yourself.
Our family has been blessed by the work of this group of volunteers and staff who help my children every week. I am so glad my friend told me about this program. Thanks
"It was a great experience, and the work your organization is doing is really inspiring. Daniella was super sharp and I have a feeling she's going to do pretty well when she heads back to school." Marty S December 2018
Thank-you so much for all you do for the children. I have seen the benefits of my time with Jackie. Her mom is also easy to speak to and I enjoy helping both of them.
I went to visit this past week and really enjoyed what they are doing. Children are helped by volunteers and seem to be getting the help they need. We did reading and homework. This is a worthwhile opportunity for volunteers
I have been tutoring with the LHCC after school homework helper Study Buddies South Charlotte as part of a group from Hands On Charlotte. Tuesday nights are the highlight of my week. I have not missed a session in the two years I have volunteered there.
The kids are awesome and it helps me keep my brain challenged. Have you tried doing 4th grade math lately? They are doing things we did not do until high school.
The LHCC volunteers who we work with are wonderful people. Each week is a different experience,. What separates this group from other tutoring groups is that they are also involved with the kids families trying to facilitate the parents interaction with their children's school and teachers ; and encouraging them to read with their kids every night.
We are just with them on night a week. It is our function to be a catalyst to encourage them to make reading and developing their math skills a part of their lives all week. We also encourage the kids to engage in critical thinking and to become responsible for their actions. Ultimately it is the kids themselves who have to make the effort every day to learn and grow.
I had a very good session with my student this week. She warmed up to me considerably and we were able to connect. She went from being very shy and suspicious of me last week to trusting and eager for my help. She is a very sweet child. Thanks for the opportunity to help children who are willing to learn
We began a tutoring program a few years ago for school-aged children in East Charlotte. We struggled to find enough volunteers and, as well, to fine tune the program to be as effective as we would have liked. Learning Help Centers of Charlotte stepped in and provided assistance, not only in recruiting volunteers, but in helping our volunteers to become effective tutors.
Hands On Charlotte (HOC) has partnerned with Learning Help Centers of Charlotte (LHCC). to create a fun and fulfilling experience for HOC volunteers during the past 2.5 years, in order to provide homework and reading assistance to marginalized children.
Serving the community alongside your organizations staff and volunteers has been rewarding and beneficial. Serving these students and their families allows us to fulfill our mission and become united with our local community partners in serving the holistic educational needs of the entire family.
The initiation of programs that engage the entire family has also been encouraging to observe, through services that your organization offers, with partners like the Charlotte Public Library and Mission Athletes International.
We are grateful for the study buddy partnership on the south- and east-side of Charlotte and wish you continued success.
The Learning Help Centers of Charlotte provides such a wonderful program. Not only do children from low income areas get extra help on their homework, but they also gain a mentor outside of their home that can positively influence their lives. So grateful to be a part of this organization!
I have been volunteering with LHCC for several years now. The founding family of this organization are wonderful and selfless people, that truly live in a way that embodies what it means to serve others. I was paired with a 6 year old boy that lacked confidence and struggled with reading comprehension. I have watched him grow to a much more confident and positive first grader, that is not only at or above his reading level, but excelling in math as well. While we work to serve these children each week, it is the volunteers that truly benefit from the relationship, as the children's joy is contagious. I feel blessed to be a part of this organization.
Thank you to everyone for making the holiday event so special for all the families. We had a great time and loved hanging out with the parents and enjoying the ethnic foods on offer
Thank-you LHCC for doing the community event on Saturday. My daughters enjoyed being outdoors and playing with their new friends, and I was happy to meet some mom's from the community. We love what you are doing for us families
“Thank-you for providing the opportunity for our associates to attend your morning reading program. We were very encouraged by what we saw and strongly believe that the program is exceeding everyone’s expectations. We look forward to partnering with you again in 2018”
I admire what you do and the impact it has on the children. Keep up the great work!
We have been very blessed to be able to be a part of this ministry and the summer program. The volunteers are kind hearted and the children responded so well to the activities and reading interventions
I work with an organization that partners groups of Jr. High and Sr. High students with nonprofits where the students can learn and be inspired to serve those in their spheres of influence. For the past few years, we have sent one group each summer to work with LHCC. Each year, our groups are very impressed with the wholistic vision of LHCC and passion for the needy that is in all of their staff. If you are looking for an organization to support who is doing important work in Charlotte or you are looking to find a place where you can join in with the serving of immigrants in Charlotte, LHCC is the perfect fit for you!
We are grateful for our partnerships with our mission partners and thank-you for making the summer program a highlight of our curriculum for the children we serve. Our mission, vision and values can be reviewed at www.lhcclt.org
I helped out over the summer and make a connection with the leaders and children in camp. They have so much to offer children including academic and social help to become leaders, learners and active doers in their schools and homes. I would definitely want to volunteer again next year
We need more organizations like LHCC to help fulfill the mission of gospel, the church and the community to love our neighbors and serve the widow and orphan in their distress. Keep up the good work and thank-you for what you are doing each and every day to help people in need in Charlotte
I was very happy to work with Chris and would love to do more. I want to be helpful and make a difference. Thanks for including me in such a special mission!
We are so grateful for the many volunteers who help our families with homework and help us with so many things for my children. Thank-you LHCC
We have various serve opportunities available to groups. Visit our Get Involved webpage for details and to sign up. http://www.lhcclt.org/get-involved/
I have been working with Learning Help Center of Charlotte for 14 months. It is a wonderful organization that puts the spiritual, emotional and academic needs of the children and their families first. The last 2 summers I have helped in their summer camp and during the school year, I have been tutoring a third (now fourth) grader. I have a terrific relationship with my third grader and it has been wonderful to see her not only grasp new concepts but also begin to flourish doing them. Her mother is very involved and after each tutoring session, I explain to her what she needs to work on to help her daughter succeed. It is a blessing to see the mom's earnest desire to have her daughter excel and it is the family's hope that this will be the first person EVER in their family to go to college.
My wife and I have been serving with LHCC for over a year.
We have done Tuesday evening tutoring and helped with summer camps for the past two summers. Our most precious moments have been when we received notes of gratitude from Z and V (the two students we tutored last year) at the end of the school year. We didn't sign up expecting the affirmation, but we were overwhelmed to hear of the huge difference we had made in their lives with our minimal effort. This ministry does so much with so little. We would encourage anyone to support it financially, but more importantly, with their time as a volunteer.
Our group came to help students over the summer with reading and we loved it! Your children are so sweet and we loved getting to know them. Thanks for doing for them what you are doing to help with their reading. Sincerely MC
So pleased to be serving this community and seeing the tremendous impact being made in the community, thanks to our volunteers!
" I would like to thank all the volunteers and leaders for their hard work at the camp. My daughter enjoyed the camp very much. Thank you for giving the families the opportunity to do summer activities. Truly blessed to have this organization. Thank you!!!"
This is such a great organization!!!! Good kids, amazing leaders and the great thing about LHCC is their goal and willingness to serve and change our community. I have seen unbelievable results from kids from this group!!!!
