The Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra sponsored by the Fine Arts Orchestral Society of Yonkers has become a superb symphonic orchestra offering four free concerts on Sunday afternoons at Saunders High School in Yonkers. Soloists are of the highest caliber. Being able to hear a wonderful soloist perform with a full orchestra free of charge gives less affluent members of the community the opportunity to hear performances of classical music. On March 10,2013 the Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra will be presenting a FREE concert at the SUNY Purchase Performing Arts Center featuring Beethoven's Symphony %9 with a chorus of over 100 and 4 renowned soloists.

It is with great joy and much appreciation that I write this review...one simply cannot say enough about the fine quality and wonderful music that our Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra brings forth on four glorious Sundays a year! Under the direction of Maestro James Sadewhite the hall fills with such exquisite waves of respite from the busy world in which we live. The auditorium of Saunders High School on Palmer Road, absolutely transcends itself on these occasions ~ allowing one to imagine that they are in a dedicated structure, one in which music lovers, spanning the earth, convene. The annual summer 'concert in the park' is nothing short of magical. Making all the above all the more 'magical' is the fact that concerts are brought to the public free of charge. I hasten to add that Membership Subscriptions (one can join at several different levels) and Journal Ads and Greetings, as well as ALL CONTRIBUTIONS are most helpful and gratefully received. We boast of so many fine and dedicated musicians, so many wonderful and committed people. Although the house is usually ALWAYS full- -please share your knowledge of this resource...there will always be room made for you! The Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra is a True Treasure, FAOS (Fine Arts Orchestral Society) extends a hearty invite to our surrounding community~
I am a violist in the Yonkers Philharmonic as well as a Board Member. The Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra gives me the chance to make seriously good music under a talented conductor and with highly talented soloists. Playing in a good orchestra means participating in something that becomes greater than the sum of its parts. The mixture of amateurs and "ringers" in the orchestra means that we can play challenging repertoire and attract high quality soloists. After a good concert my spirits can soar at least as far as the music is heard. If our audience enjoys the concerts half as much as I do then they've had an extraordinary experience and it's FREE. An added benefit is that our fourth concert of the year is a Young Artists Concerto where 5 or 6 Westchester high school students, who are winners of the annual concerto competition, get to perform with the orchestra. The pain of playing an all concerto concert (not particularly fun for the orchestra) is far out weighed by the pleasure in introducing these young musicians to our audience.
I joined the Yonkers Philharmonic about 5 years ago after playing in many local orchestras. I have to say that the quality of the concerts are impressive and the artists are fantastic. i am always impressed at the hundreds of spectators that come to support the orchestra. James Sadewhite is an expert conductor with a kind heart. The members are veteran players with multi talents. One must come and experience a concert to truly appreciate this feedback.
I began attending Yonkers Philharmonic Concerts about 10 years ago. Since Jim Sadewhite took over as Conductor/Music Director the quality of these concerts has gone up. These concerts are superb! I hope the Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra can continue to offer free concerts to the general public. Iy is my observation that a high percentage of the audience members at these free concerts really can not afford to purchase tickets to a cultural event.
I have been a board member of the Fine Arts Orchestral Society of Yonkers, Inc. for over 30 years and have watched the Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra, which it sponsors, grow from a small ommunity orchestra to one of the finest 65 piece symphonic orchestras. I became President of the organization 11 years ago, because I saw the need to continue to bring fine classical music to the community, free of charge. What a great opportunity for people who could not afford to go to New York City to enjoy such beautiful concerts. As people leave the concerts they are in awe and anxious to come back to the next concert. Under the direction of Maestro James Sadewhite, the orchestra is simply wonderful.
I have only been to one concert of the Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra at the Saunders High School. The music was wonderful and it was nice to hear the orchestra play different concertos. It was an pleasant experience on a Sunday afternoon... I hope they continue to have more concerts.
I have attended a few concerts of the Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra. The one concert that was very memorable for me was held at the Untermyer Park. The setting was perfect with the orchestra playing made me feel calm and relaxed. it is great that Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra gives free concerts quarterly! It helps the Westchester Community...
I joined the board of the Fine Arts Orchestral Society of Yonkers in the early 80s to help keep the Yonkers Philharmjonic Orchestra and its free concerts alive. As a holder of a Master's Degree in Music I was able to see the pleasure this OK orchestra brought to the community. With increased fiancial support, we were able to hire fine musicians and especially and top nothch concert master to bring the strings to new amazing heights. Today, the orchestra is way above the OK standards; in fact many of our patrons are also subscribers to the New York Philoharmonic Orchestra and are "wowed" by the quality and diversity of programs as well as the presentation; we are lucky to attract international soloist who use the YHonkers Philoharmonic Orchestra for a sounding board to their tours. And the concerts are still admission free and play to full houses.
