Mission: Strengthens and supports children, adults, families, and communities to improve their sense of well-being through prevention, education, intervention, and counseling services
Programs: Early intervention program designed to provide education, evaluation, and intervention for children ages birth to 3 years who have or are at risk for delay in their development. All referrals are obtained from york/adams mhmr early intervention. These services are provided in the child's natural environment which is primarily their home, daycare provider, or in the community. Families who live throughout york and adams counties are served. The services provided may include one or more of the following: development teacher (may include development therapy, behavior services, grief counseung, and/or infant massage instruction), physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, feeding services, and nutrition services. (continued in schedule o)the program follows a family training model helping the families learn what they can do between visits to promote their child's development.
family life program is provided through three services through a contract with york county children and youth services as child abuse prevention activities. These services include community education groups for parents and children as well as individual family work in the home for first time parents. Parent education is provided throughout york county in many school and community based locations as well as the york county prison. Sixteen hour courses, twelve, ten, and eight hour series and one time issue class formats are provided. Kids groups are support groups for children ages 5 to 17 that are experiencing loss and change in their lives. (continued in schedule o)sites for these groups are established in various locations throughout the county and formatted on one day programs, camp format, or weekly groups held over an 8 to 10 week period. In-home parenting of infants(formerly known as perinatal coaching) is designed to provide assistance to first-time parents. A coach trained as a parenting specialist conducts several home visits to help parents by answering questions, lending support, instructing in infant massage techniques, and providing information about infants which includes but not unlimited to, soothing a fussy baby, sleep and awake cycles, the baby's developmental milestones, and how to recognize your baby's clues.
counseling services are provided by experienced licensed psychologists, licensed social workers, and licensed professional counselors. These services are funded through insurance or fee-for-service arrangements. Therapists specialize in school related problems, anger, stress, pain management, grief counseung, post traumatic stess disorder, single parenting issues, divorce, custody, visitation issues, and couples therapy.
juvenile justice programs are provided through social skills, anger reduction groups(ssarg), and aftercare triage services through contract with york county children and youth services(yccy). Ssarg is a 10 week program for youth (ages 13 to 17) that are referred by juvenile probation and yccy. This course assists teens to understand and modulate their anger responses. Classes run 40 weeks a year, one to two nights per week. Aftercare triage provides an intensive team approach to working with at risk juvenile offenders who are placed in residential facilities. Work is also done concurrently with their families. The team consists of a probation officer (county employee), a family interventionist, and a community liason all housed at family-child resources. In january 2008 a second team was added. Services begin the first day of the residential placement and end approximately 4-6 months after discharge from residential placement. The team works closely together to successfully transition the youth from the residential setting to the home and community. The goals of this program include reducing recidivism and the amount of time in residential placement.
