Mission: Cinema st. Louis culturally enriches st. Louis by showcasing the best in international, documentary, and american independent cinema. Believing that when we learn more about others' cultures and perspective, we discover something about ourselves, csl programs offer glimpses of the human experience from around the world and thoughtfully address issues of race, age, ethnicity, and sexual identity.
Programs: The 26th annual whitaker st. Louis international film festival (sliff) - held nov. 2-12, 2017 - screened 372 films: 82 narrative features, 63 documentary features, and 227 shorts. The fest featured a total of 220 programs, including 13 special-event programs (such as four free master classes and the closing-night awards presentation). The festival had 64 countries represented and hosted nearly 200 filmmakers and related guests. Sliff offered 61 free presentations, and the free cinema for students program served nearly 6,000 students from 50 schools. Total sliff attendance was 24,323. An additional 13,827 patrons attended other events that csl presented or co-sponsored with other organizations during 2017. More than 350 volunteers participated in sliff programming throughout the year.
