Butterfly Haven, Inc., is the first organization I contact when in need of resources for any youth/child I am working with who are impacted by foster care, recently I needed a twin bed for a teenager, I submitted an application and within that day, I had a response. Butterfly Haven truly understands a sense of urgency, the volunteer staff have a smile to greet you at the door, at times you are so focus on getting what the youth/child needs you forget how delightful to receive a smile during a crisis.

My name is yousef jamal khaled,from palestine.I am writing to seek your assistance because of our war with israel,which has killed and displaced many in palestine.
Since the war began we have lived a life of suffering and anguish with many of our brothers martyred by the occupation forces.
Presently,we are left with little or nothing to live on with several children and adults dying on daily bases,due to hunger and starvation.
I appeal to you my brother to come to our aid by donating some money for us to eat, especially the children.

I love the people who work at Butterfly Haven. They are very kind & giving. I have gotten food, clothes, diapers & some things for my house. They treat us so nice & I don't ever feel judged. My kids have attended their events. They are so much fun. It's it's free always. It is nice that they do things that include the family. I recommend they highly. They are truly a miracle and have been so helpful to me family. They are a blessing.

There is a huge need in the community for food, clothing & household goods. Butterfly Haven helps fulfill that need. There is a line on community day & people wait to get the essentials they need because they know they won't be judged or turned away. They are treated with respect & dignity & are extremely grateful for the items they receive. The staff & volunteers spend many hours providing for their needs. It is the most caring organization I have ever volunteered for. I can't say enough about how much they provide to those in need.

I have been volunteering for Butterfly Haven (BH) for over a year, as part of a small, but great, all-volunteer team. BH offers a variety of resources to foster families and those in a crisis situations, supporting first-time visitors and ongoing family needs on our community days and through other events and celebrations, so the parents are able to focus on their families. We serve our community through the generosity of our donors, who help fund our programs, or keep our pantry stocked with non perishable food and hygiene items and/or through clothing and household items donated for our resource room. Butterfly Haven is run completely by a few dedicated individuals who volunteer their time. Through our Resource Room we provide clothing (infant to adult sizes) bedding, household items, and toys for both the foster and crisis community, all at no cost to the families. I spoke with a case worker who was picking up beds, car seats and bedding for a foster family, all provided free to the family through our Referral Program. She stated that we are the most responsive to foster family needs and how appreciative she is of the work we do.

I have been volunteering for Butterfly Haven for over a year. I have volunteered at several other organizations, but none gave me the satisfaction that this does. By offering resources to foster families and those in a crisis situation, our goal is to ease the stress of a new placement, support ongoing needs and allow them to focus on their Family. With the many challenges families have faced this year, we remained open to serve the community. We were able to do this through the generosity of our donors, who helped keep our small pantry filed with non perishable food and hygiene items. There is a small handful of volunteers, so if you are looking for a rewarding experience, come volunteer so that we can keep #MakingMomentsMatter.

This non-profit organization has been incredibly helpful to so many families I work with within the Ritenour School District. They are quick to respond to my referrals when a family is in need of their services and despite the language barrier for most of the families I have referred, they still manage a way to bridge the gap and help serve them the best way possible. Very grateful for this organization and the people who generously volunteer their time and resources.

I have volunteered as the pantry supervisor for Butterfly Haven for almost 2 years. It is a joy to serve foster families and families in crisis. Whether providing non-perishable food items, clothing, beds, strollers, diaper supplies, household goods or supporting foster kids' birthday parties or monthly community days; the smiles on the parents' and kids' faces are worth all the time and work. The volunteer atmosphere is positive and friendly. The only struggle I experience is when a family has needs, such as a crib or bed, and we have to report that there are no more to fulfill their need.
As a volunteer who crafts, I also get to share my decorating and creative talents for special events. That is a win/win for me!

I had the pleasure of volunteering for this wonderful organization over this past weekend with my job Optime Care Pharmacy for the drive-thru spring giveaway they had. It was such a great and pleasurable way to spend part of my Saturday doing something for others. Maria was so kind and hearing her story of why and how she got the organization started is such an amazing thing to experience. Maria and her staff were so nice and well organized I was just happy to be there and apart of their team for the day to help the families that stopped by. Just the personal connection I saw Maria had with each family the came by made me that much more grateful and happy I decided to volunteer at The Butterfly Haven and to continue to volunteer in the future.

05/25/21: I am a social worker on Thursday 05/20/21 I went online to Butterfly Haven website submitted a request for a car seat needed for an 18-month old toddler placed with a provider, within a few hours of my submission I answered a phone call from Maria at Butterfly Haven. I was surprised at the quick turnaround response, the courteous phone call, the knowledge of knowing the urgency of the need, and just the pleasantry from the staff to other workers, foster parents, and kiddos, it truly makes a difference.

I have volunteered with a lot of different organizations, Butterfly Haven is by far my favorite place to volunteer & I will keep coming back. Butterfly Haven is run completely by a few dedicated ladies who volunteer their time. The resources they provide to the community are greatly needed & appreciated. This year they saw the need & coordinated several drive by food giveaways.
I have witnessed the joy on clients faces when they receive the most basic of human needs. Parents are so grateful to receive clothing, bedding and a few toys for their children. I spoke to a new foster mom who was setting up her home to begin welcoming children she was happy to have the guidance from BH. This year Butterfly Haven. had to cancel several other large fundraisers due to the pandemic. I know this is stressful but the ladies there still have a smile on their faces when they serve the community.

I found out about butterfly haven one morning they were doing a drive I went there went in there were aloooot lotsss of clothes socks newborn things that were very useful for me and my unborn they are super friendly they dont rush you to pick out any items I went back the second time yesterday it was great I referred alot of people in need of clothing just to start off with

We're so grateful for Butterfly Haven! Timing was bad and we needed diapers to get us thru the week after spending the last of our funds on groceries for that week. I was able to make a same day appointment (during quarantine) to pick some up. I was offered other necessities as well. The woman I saw asked about some basics I wouldn't have thought of, and insisted if I ever need anything else to reach back out. Great experience, would definitely recommend contacting them if you need a little extra help during these uncertain times.

So thankful for the opportunity to continue serving families during this time of COVID-19 crisis in our community.

Butterfly Haven is unique in that we are staffed solely by 2-3 volunteers and we serve our families by appointment. Because of this we are able to continue serving in this great time of need by maintaining the required social distancing and cleaning between each family we serve.

Butterfly Haven has a small non-perishable food Pantry that also stocks hygiene and diapering products.

Butterfly Haven's mission is to enrich the lives of children impacted by Foster Care and families in crisis situations. It is a blessing that each of our volunteers believe so completely in our mission that they are dedicated to helping our Community even in scary times.

Butterfly Haven is funded directly by individuals throughout our community who believe in the work we do. We are not church affiliated or corporate sponsored. We rely on fundraisers and individual donations that come in to help keep our doors open. Due to the COVID-19 we have lost 3 larger fundraising events and 2 donation drives. However, we are seeing the number of families needing our services increase. That is why we are here #MakingMomentsMatter.

Butterfly Haven has been a soft place for us to land when things get tough or just really busy. The emergency aspect of fostering can be very overwhelming. Butterfly Haven is always there to help supply needs for a new placement, offer resources for training about topics in unchartered waters, offer support, meals and an abundance of love when a family member is ill or the family has experienced loss. They love the entire family - not just the foster children. They really seem to get that our bio kids need love and support also. Our biological son was so excited to be able to celebrate his birthday with our friends from Butterfly Haven - they chose gifts that were so perfect and meaningful to him. They have taken the time to get to know him and always seem to remember special things about him - that makes him feel so loved and not forgotten about. When one of our foster babies was in the PICU for 76 days the community rallied around us - strangers turned friends, brought food to the hospital and the home (for the rest of the family), gave their time to stay with the baby so I could see my other kids, and checked on us frequently. This community that Butterfly Haven has built is a true God send. Maria and Pam (And Jerry) have hearts of gold and go above and beyond to serve Foster Families and families in crisis. The volunteers who work with them are angels in disguise - quietly doing so much work behind the scenes so that families can be served.

Foster kids and families have a difficult time under the best of circumstances. Often Butterfly Haven is helping when those circumstances are less than ideal. They are there with diapers, clothes, beds, and emotional support. They are there when needed. I have donated like-new bedding, clothes, and toys and I always know that these items are going to those who are in need. You know that any money or items donated are going where they can do the most good. That is the type of nonprofit I am happy to support.

As a caseworker that supports both Foster Parents and struggling single moms in the St. Louis area; Butterfly Haven, Inc. has been a consistent resource that I rely on for needs that arise. The staff and resources of Butterfly Haven are generous and efficient. Every interaction with Butterfly Haven has been a blessing to the families we serve and items that we are able to link to them. Just recently we had a set of twins that needed cribs and thanks to Butterfly Haven we were able to get these items for a crisis family within 24 hours. We got an emergency placement of twin infants. Butterfly haven was able to provide us with a crib, clothes, and formula to help us get started on this new journey. It is a relief to be able to focus on the children and not worry about supplies.

Butterfly Haven provides a sense of community for our family. The fostering journey can be very trying, situations are difficult to understand & work through on your own, and it can be a very lonely time. It is refreshing to know that this organization is here and that they and other families who will come alongside you and encourage you to make it through the tough days and to keep going.

The emergency meal program for foster families, the diapers/wipes/formula/strollers/car seats/beds/dressers that are provided when sibling groups are needing placed and we need to be able to accommodate them on short notice is incredible. Maria is always willing to meet at short notice to help find things to make our journey easier. She is very responsive to our emails and calls.

The events and potlucks are a blessing. We enjoy the time with other foster families and the kids LOVE it!

Pam is always so friendly and encouraging and our kids love Santa Jerry.

Thanks Butterfly Haven for filling a void in the fostering community that we desperately need.

Butterfly Haven is a great organization with a huge heart for children placed in foster care, and for the foster families that care of them. Maria, the founder, works tirelessly to get resources to the people who really need it. Butterfly Haven puts on fantastic events like birthday parties and Christmas parties. It also has a resource room where families with new placements can get clothing, furniture, health and beauty supplies, and diapers. Basically, if you need it, BH has it.

Butterfly Haven is an amazing resource for foster families as well as families in crisis situations. Not only do they have a shop where foster parents, and the community on certain days, can shop for FREE but they also provide resources such as respite! Maria and the team are excellen!!!

This group of volunteers helps make the world to be a better place. They make sure to have hours of availability to help foster families and families in crisis. They helped my family when our family grew over night. They helped to provide the essentials like clothes, pjs, and personal care items for our new members. It makes the adjustment easier when you have a community to assist you.

I received my first foster child and I was told about Butterfly Haven. I found my forever family and community of friends. They have helped with diaper and clothes for our little girl and also helped with questions and support when I was having a tough time with my foster son. They have encouraged and lifted me up when I was down. They are wonderful volunteers who help all foster families and families in crisis.

Butterfly Haven has put together so many wonderful experiences for my children. Between the amazing birthday parties they've thrown, fun holiday parties and awesome adventures we've gotten to participate in I couldn't ask for a better resource. Something that makes Butterfly Haven so unique is that all my kids can participate, they don't limit their resources to "only foster children" as I've seen so many organizations do. All of my kids feel included which really helps us maintain our "one big family" mentality. We are also able to obtain diapers, clothing and toys through their resource room, all at no cost to us. This really helps us stretch our dollars so we can make sure the kids don't go without.

Butterfly Haven is constantly there when I need help. The newest baby in our home needs items constantly as he grows to help him reach milestones. Bottles, bouncy seats, onsies, toys to grasp and soon cereal. Butterfly Haven is always there to offer a helping hand and Maria is always there with a listening ear. I would struggle so much more as a foster parent without the help and suppport of Butterfly Haven as well as the community that rallies around us.

Our family loves the birthday parties from Butterfly Haven! The staff and volunteers are always so kind and really care about our families. The kids love the gifts and getting to play with other families like ours. It is very relaxed.

We are not just a number. They know our name and check on us to see how we are doing.

They truly care about the families they serve. They are always willing to try to help even if the resource is not at the office. Our family is thankful for the parties and events, as well as the diapers, beds and clothing.

I have been a foster home for almost 10 years now. I joined the butterfly haven community only a few months ago after hearing about them from a friend who has been helped by them. About a month ago I took in an infant foster placement (after about 5 yrs of not having a baby in my home so I was basically starting over). Butterfly Haven went above and beyond helping me to get everything I needed (and more) in such a short amount of time. They were so much help and are truly awesome n very caring!!!

Our family started fostering children a year ago. We found this community of other foster families open and willing to help with our questions small request of needs. They have become part of our family. The love and support they show is amazing. Our family has been blessed with clothes; shoes, toys, food and diapers/wipes.

Our family was in St. Louis for a medical emergency and came with nothing. This place helped us with clothing, shoes, toys, bedding and even a bassinet . They were very nice.

We are a newer foster home, we have been foster parents for a little over 2 yrs now, I remember when we first got started we took a placement of 3 young girls who had very little clothes when they came to us. We were told about Butterfly Haven, we went in to the office, we were able to get all the clothes out girls needed and we were not asked to pay a dime. When we struggling the team at Butterfly Haven was right there to help us stay on our feet. Anything we have ever needed they have had. This is a great organization that does great work in the community.

When we began our journey as foster parents, we didn’t know anyone that could serve as a mentor or sounding board as we struggled to learn how to navigate the fostering world. When we discovered Butterfly Haven, we knew we found an amazing organization that could provide us so many necessary resources - clothes, a car seat, a stroller, toys, and most importantly - people who have “been there, done that” to help us understand processes, advocate for the kids in our care, speak up to get what we need, and provide a place to hear that we are not alone. BH is a unique organization that fills so many needs for families - foster, adoptive, and biological.

Butterfly Haven and especially Maria have been extremely helpful to me, my family, and especially my emergency placed foster grandson!! I didn’t have anything setup for him at the time, so Maria and her volunteers were helpful in me gaining clothes, playpen, toys, food, and etc. for the little guy!! They are extremely friendly and helpful!! Thank you!!

Butterfly Haven is an amazing non-profit organization!! They provide a free Shoppe for foster parents and crisis families. The Shoppe has clothing, baby items, toys, strollers, beds, bedding, shoes, household items, non-perishable food items from their "What's in Your Hands" pantry plus many more items. They are totally staffed by volunteers. They also provide respite care days for foster families along with major events for Christmas, Easter and other major events. They receive no major funding from any large groups. They receive donations from various small groups and through various fundraisers. Maria Larson who founded Butterfly Haven is herself a single mom, a foster mom, she maintains a full-time job and works at Butterfly Haven as well. She is an amazing individual who truly cares for others!

Butterfly Haven has been so helpful in helping our family when we needed it. The volunteers are so friendly and the store is clean and organized. They provided food and diapers when we could not afford it. They make us feel like family and we love coming there.

Where do I start? As a single woman that is a foster mother, I sometimes need a sounding board... I sometimes needed some clothing items for children in my care, or I could share with other foster parents items I no longer needed- Butterfly Haven was and is there for us! Butterfly Haven is an awesome non-profit who assist foster and crisis families. They have a Shoppe that allows foster parents and crisis families to shop for all sorts of items from clothing, furniture, bedding, toys, shoes, food at no charge. Butterfly Haven also provides respite care for foster families. Butterfly Haven provides events such as birthday parties, Christmas parties with gifts & a genuine Santa for foster kids, Easter events, back to school events. This is an amazingly awesome group!!

Why I give to Butterfly Haven, Inc.

My heart has always wanted to help and encourage others. What better way then reaching out and embracing those who need it most, foster children. For 13 years I have been a foster parent to over 200 children of all levels of care.

Early on I realized how desperately foster children needed an advocate to speak for them during their time in system until permanency was able to be achieved. I also realized how difficult and challenging it could be for foster families.

Many children come into care with little or no clothing, toys, or items of their own. If they are one of the lucky ones, they may have had time to grab a trash bag of miscellaneous items.

I give and dedicate my time to Butterfly Haven, Inc. because I believe in our mission. I believe each child deserves to be treated with love and respect. I believe that helping provide resources and networking will encourage and support our children and families to create a better experience for them while the system requires they be temporarily removed from their home situation.

Butterfly Haven provides resources including food, clothing, toys, diapers, as well as support navigating the respective licensing agencies and state requirements.

Butterfly Haven is staffed by a team of volunteers, many of whom have full houses of children as well. All items are procured through community donations, and all supporters are unpaid.

Butterfly Haven fills an important need in the community, by equipping foster families for their responsibility of providing a safe environment with adequate provisions for the children in their care.

Additionally, Butterfly Haven provides children with welcome items such as duffel bags and stuffed animals to help make the transition into care more personable and compassionate.

My hope and prayer is that one day there will not be a need for foster care. Until that day, Butterfly Haven, Inc. works tirelessly to #makingmomentsmatter for children in foster care and crisis situations and the families who care for them.

That is why I give financially and volunteer my time with Butterfly Haven, Inc.
