Causes: Automotive Safety, Disaster Aid
Mission: To produce a significant and continuous reduction in traffic crashes, injuries and deaths in the communities targeted by our efforts. Continued on schedule o. The foundation was formed by aaa auto club south, inc. , the foundation's sole member, for the purpose of improving traffic safety within the operating territory of the company. Aaa auto club south, inc. Was merged into the auto club group effective november 30, 2014, at which time the auto club group became the foundation's sole member. The foundation achieves its objectives through the development and coordination of educational programs aimed at increasing public awareness of traffic safety principles and improvement of driving skills. Particular emphasis is placed on programs and safety activities with schools, police departments and other groups and serving as a resource to the media and communities of the dissemination of safety information.
Programs: Aaa school safety patrol:the aaa school safety patrol program equips children at 6,700 grade schools with materials and equipment (including the iconic electric-lime fluorescent belts and badges), skills and resources needed to assist their classmates by ensuring their safety to and from school every day. The program has been praised by safety and education groups for reducing injuries and deaths among 5-to-14 year olds, the age group most at risk for pedestrian injury. In addition to keeping students safe, the program teaches lifelong lessons of responsibility, leadership and good citizenship.
traffic and safety curriculum:educational materials are developed and distributed throughout our communities on various traffic safety topics including pedestrian safety, the importance of wearing seat belts, and motorcycle safety. In 2017, the foundation provided 212,000 halloween trick-or-treat bags and reflective zipper pulls to children to help keep them safe. Working with law enforcement, we provided 1,090 schools with "schools open, drive carefully" materials to make the public aware of increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic as well as school zones. Additionally, 3,000 bicycle helmets and educational materials were provided to children through our bicycle safety program.
aaa promise:aaa promise discourages underage drinking and protects teens and everyone else on the roadways during prom and graduation season. The program brings together teens, parents and schools into this important conversation. By making the aaa promise, teens commit to making the right decision when it comes to underage drinking, drugs and impaired driving. Outreach toolkits were provided to high schools, reaching 125,000 students in 2017.
