Mission: We are glaucoma clinicians, surgeons, and scientists dedicated to improving the lives of people with glaucoma by advancing knowledge and care through education, research, advocacy, and leadership.
Programs: The ags holds an annual scientific meeting that draws an average of 950 glaucoma professionals.
the ags programs include awarding research grants to young and mid-career physician scientists; on average, four grants are awarded. The ags also has a mentoring program for the advancement of physician scientists. This program is funded by a corporate supporter or a foundation and its mission is to provide financial aid to young glaucomatologist to overcome barriers in their early career path. Six to ten awards are granted annually, depending on funding.
the journal of glaucoma (replaced by ophthalmology glaucoma in spring 2018) is a benefit for the members of the ags. The ags has a contractual agreement with lippincott williams & wilkins/wolters kluwer health, who publishes the journal. Dues paying members receive a printed and online version of the journal, and non-dues paying members receive access to the online version of the journal.
other programs include the mentoring for the advancement of physicians scientists ("maps") awards, the research consortium, membership administration, and other projects.
