Mission: The american college of dermatology nurse practitioners (acdnp) is a professional advance practice nursing organization dedicated to setting the standards in dermatology practice, education, research and professional development. It is our mission to serve as a resource and to support all nurse practictioners with an interest in dermatology.
Programs: This organization was developed to bridge the gap in dermatology clinical practice, education, and research. After communicating and collaborating with nurse practitioners nationally and internationally, it became clear that there is a significant deficit in melanoma and skin cancer knowledge in np providers who care for patients in all specialties. Patient outcomes are directly related to early detection. In addition, over 30% of patients seen in primary care are due to dermatologic conditions. It was clear that it was crucial for the organization to develop and implement a mission that offers dermatology education to all np specialties at low cost. After a visit to international communities, it was identified that our nursing colleagues have extremely limited resources to dermatology education. The board of directors realized that the organization must develop resources for nurses outside the u. S. Efforts by the board have led to collaborations with dermatology nursing in southeast asia (national skin centre), the british dermatology nurses association, and presenting research at the 2015 world dermatology conference. Arrangements for audio taping of dermatology lectures at the national academy of dermatology nurse practitioners and american college of dermatology nurse practitioners conferences will serve as a platform to bring free dermatology education to those areas in need. Acdnp also serves as a platform to promote and recognize contributions of fellow dermatology nurse practitioners who contribute to clinical practice, education and research. The board believes that such recognition will inspire others to contribute to the field of dermatology by offering a reward program that offers free national academy of dermatology nurse practitioner (nadnp) memberships and free nadnp conference registrations to those who have contributed to the mission of nadnp and acdnp.
