Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: The Dog Liberator is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned dogs, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, local veterinarians, trainers, and foster homes, we are able to rescue hundreds of dogs every year. Our dogs are fostered in a home environment which enables us to evaluate the dog’s true temperament, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition. Our dogs are examined, vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered before they are re-homed. The Dog Liberator continues to focus on rescuing herding dogs. Herding dogs have specific needs, both physical and mental, and when adopted to the wrong environment, they can develop behavioral issues. Herding breeds consist of Collies, Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, Shetland Sheepdogs, and herding mixes. The Dog Liberator prides themselves on rescuing and adopting deaf/blind dogs and shy fearful dogs that are at high risk for euthanasia.

The Dog Liberator (TDL) is an INCREDIBLE rescue that has the very best, long-term, caring Founder (along with her family!) and volunteers! I also appreciate that TDL does not discriminate; TDL takes in ALL KINDS: ages, disabilities, unwell, deaf, blind, etc. of dogs (they've even rescued some cats!). Taking all these dogs in is positively one of the most expensive "hobbies" I can imagine. Except this is not a hobby for TDL- TDL is their lives. I would never hesitate to donate or buy from their Amazon wish list if I am able. I can say that, TDL has changed our lives for the better-ALL of our lives! We enjoy the annual get togethers where dogs are the belles and beaus of the party! I am continually impressed by the ongoing work of all involved with TDL, organized over multiple states, all with the goal of SAVING LIVES of animals who find themselves in need of help and a home. I remain appreciative for, not only our sweet (challenging, goofy, FUN) adopted girl, but all the other animals they have helped. If you are able to share, even a small amount with TDL, you can rest assured, your contribution will go directly to helping the animals. And TDL is not a short term rescue. They are in it for the long haul! We adopted our girl from them over five years ago now! My Photos: First photo I uploaded is our Sunny girl (formerly named Sunbeam) upon intake to the shelter. She looks so sad, so confused, so baby in a big, scary, loud shelter. She was there with her two other siblings- a whole litter abandoned to probable death in a southeastern rural, high-kill shelter. TDL rescued them all, flew them down to Florida with he help of Pilots And Paws (which is also an AMAZING charity!) and found them all homes. The second picture is us, her new people, the first day we got home. She's definitely still confused LOL but those little ears were up and she knew it was going to be OK. And picture three is...Sunny. That's her. She is happy if she's playing with or ripping apart any number of toys she has. Four is Sunny being an attentive coworker at my job with me.

TDL is such an amazing organization! The Founder is very loving and accepting of ANY kind of animal! No animal is too far gone in their eyes. They love every animal and help them find amazing homes and I would love to help them any way I can. Though I can't imagine how hard taking in all of these animals in is on their wallets, please consider donating to them. I know I will!

I have been a family friend for years and I've seen dozens of dogs come and go to loving, grateful homes and the pups are SO happy. They really stop at nothing until every dog they receive is healthy and ready to go to a family. And I have seen them check up on families that have adopted from them to ensure the dog is happy and healthy and to offer any help they can.

Having just moved to Florida in 2012, we wanted to add to our family of rescue collies another family member.

After searching in investigating the quality and integrity of many rescue groups, we found THE DOG LIBERATOR, and their wonderful leader, Gisele.

The entire family including her son and daughter pitch in on a regular basis to make this rescue group the success that it is today. Long days, many volunteers, and Fosters, make this rescue group what it is today.

The countless dogs that had been rescued rehabilitated and rehomed are probably over 1000 in just about nine years.

And they don't just rescue animals from Florida. They reach out to other states and help where help is needed. It takes a true dedication to live the life of an animal rescue, but to also to fully vet potential owners to make sure they are appropriate and deserving of these rescues. Her rescues include those who are blind, deaf, and needing medical attention as well as those needing to be rescued from animal violence and abuse.

My hat goes off to Gisele and her family for making many dogs lives comfortable.

(Pictured are Eileen from Alabama, and Wrigley from South Florida...now living a wonderful life in New Smyrna Beach Florida.)

We are so thankful to The Dog Liberator for their caring and help with a recent adoption...Wrigley aka Prince Harry. They also were very helpful in giving us resources for an aging Collie who had Degenerative Myelopathy. Gisele and her volunteers are the best. She truly cares for these four legged friends who don't have a voice... Please let others know, and donate when you can. Every little bit I am sure helps.

We rescued a dog from this lady. He was very sick with double ear infections and hook worms. He was so skinny. Could barely lift his head. They claim they had no knowledge of this and he was taken to the vet. He didn't have anything wrong with him. After we purchased him, we took him to the vet less than 24 hours later and he was positive for double ear infections and hook worms. We asked Gisele for our money back or some type of refund and she said "No" but I'll take the dog. They are robbing people and selling sick dogs to peopme, which in yhe state of Florida is against the law.

I've worked with Gisele and her TDL family for the last 4 years. I can not express the amount of love and dedication that is put into these dogs. From start to finish the dogs are always our number one priority. Never have I experienced a misleading post of awareness or request for donations that wasn't necessary. Every heartbeat is in the best interest of our dogs and securing a future for TDL to keep saving adoptable dogs. TDL has my continued support and services as a volunteer.

I can't say enought good things about TDL! We adopted our Border Collie mix, Dolly, from them 1.5 years ago. TDL rescued my Dolly girl just a few hours before she was scheduled to be euthanized! I will be forever grateful, she is a wonderful companion and we just love her to pieces! I try to contribute money every month to TDL because they do great work and operate on very little money. If you are looking for a charity who will leverage every cent you give them into saving more animals, this is it. TDL is wonderful.

After our Rhodesian Ridgeback passed away, and left a massive Ridgeback size hole in our hearts, we had a desperate need to find a friend for our 8 year old Border Collie, who is very shy, and very noise sensitive. The Dog Liberator was quick to assist and recommended a 10 month old BC puppy for us and our 8 year old dog. It is a match made in heaven. I love that all the dogs are fostered in homes, not kept in a shelter like environment. The dogs are well socialized, and well taken care of. I've had some of those experiences where you "rescue from the rescue". That is nowhere near the case here. When the time comes to add another BC to our family, I know where we will be going.

TDL claims to rescue and save dogs, but I disagree. They also saved Me! After we lost our 16 yr old Border Collie to cancer my husband and I were so lonely and heartbroken. I was searching for rescue sites to donate to and came acrossed The Dog Liberators. Intrigued by their mission and philosophy, I read more. Naturally I looked at the fosters available for adoption and was immediately caught by a beautiful little BC golden retriever mix. Her story (Cindi Loo Hoo the Grinch stole her Christmas!) Grabbed my heart and just wouldn't let go! Lost, shot with buckshot, jailed and almost euthanized (gasp!) Rescued by TDL in the nick of time. An email and a phone call later and she was ours! Arrangements made by Giselle, Vicki and Dawn and she was going to be flown, yes flown!, from Georgia to Florida on Christmas Eve 2011. Bad weather nixed the flight, instead an awesome guy, Jay drove her down! These people are awesome! For every puppy and dog rescued there is a family rescued too! Sadie, as we named her, is the sweetest, most loving ceature on this earth. Maybe we would have adopted some other dog, but TDL made it the easiest process. I know they put so much hard work, not to mention blood, sweat, and yes tears! Into the dogs they save. Thank God for TDL.

Shortly after moving into our home in Naples, I met one of our neighbors walking their collies. I commented on how beautiful they were. I told my neighbor, Robin, I was interested in adopting a Border Collie. She told me they had adopted one of their collies from The Dog Liberator and how wonderful an organization they were. I researched TDL and then sent an email to Gisele inquiring about adopting a Border Collie. Gisele responded quickly and said she would keep us in mind and that she had a pup coming in but wasn't sure of its temperament .

Four days later Gisele called me with news they had received a call to help find a home for a one year old Border Collie out of Marathon. She sent me a picture of Olive. I loved the smile on Olive's face. I decided that Olive might be a great match. I let Gisele know that we wanted to give Olive a home. Gisele made sure I understood I had fourteen days to make my decision to keep Olive or return her, as Olive or any other dogs up for adoption were Gisele's ultimate responsibility, if Olive was not the dog we were hoping for. The following Wednesday Olive was driven to Naples by Jeff Bennett, a volunteer for The Dog Liberator, to begin a new life with my fiancé and I.

We renamed Olive, Allie. Allie has been an absolute joy for us. She has adjusted to her new home and surroundings. It's as though she has been with us her entire life. We just love her and feel very blessed that Gisele considered us to be Allie's new parents. Words cannot express how happy we are to have Allie be part of our family. Thank you Gisele.

Where do I begin? This organization devotes all of their heart and time to finding homes for these helpless, wonderful animals who would otherwise be euthanized, abused, or spend their entire existence in a shelter. My daughter has adopted two dogs (the latest is featured in the picture for this ad) from them and I wrote a children's book last year using this organization as my primary source. From that experience, one of my co-workers was so moved and impressed by them she ended up adopting a dog also.

I really have never seen anything like them. They are selfless, amazing angels and I will continue to support them in any way I can. Whether they win this or not, in my eyes and a lot of others they are they greatest non-profit EVER! I admire the work they do diligently without ever expecting any personal praise but with only one thing in mind. God Bless you all for what you do. Keep up the good work. You make the world a better place.

The Dog Liberator means precisely that! The altruistic commitment of Giselle Veilleux and her all volunteer staff is the finest "liberator" of pups we have ever known. We have adopted many dogs, senior, younger and deaf. The blessings this fine non profit has to offer all animal lovers is beyond exemplary. We have dealt with many "adoption" groups over the years and The Dog Liberator is by far the most compassionate, professional group we have ever worked with. We are the proud "parents" of 2 Dog Liberator rescues and could not be happier.

I have been an adopter, had this rescue home 5 puppies for me and have volunteered since the beginning of TDL. It is a TDL policy to never take knowingly take an aggressive dog into the rescue program or place a knowingly aggressive dog with an adopter. All dogs react differently in different environments and to the energy of different people and different animals. For the "person with the aggressive dog" who has posted several rants, "why would you keep a dog for 2 years and spend thousands of dollars vetting it if it was aggressive towards your do on the first day?" TDL allows adopters to return the dog the first week of the adoption. After that, you need to take some personal responsibility. All TDL dogs are fully vetted, meaning, shots, heartworm test, spay neuter and any other immediately known and identified conditions. Those services alone will cost more than the adoption fee at a standard Vet's office. Just like having a baby, you never know what health issues or personality flaws can surface with your own child. Why would you expect any living animal to be different? Not all breeds are appropriate for all people!

The Dog Liberator is a professional rescue organization. Every dog they save, they make a life-long commitment to. They have very high standards in veterinary care, all dogs are spayed and neutered, receive all of their shots and are micro chipped. They have saved deaf and blind dogs, dogs with Parvo Virus and have rehabilitated hundreds of dogs labeled as "fear biters".

Gisele is not just another crazy dog lady. While rescue is her passion, she runs the rescue like a business.

What sets The Dog Liberator apart is that when you adopt from them, they know everything about the dog, and I mean everything. They also will coach their adopters to ensure that the training and rehabilitation the dog received while being fostered by TDL, continues. Maybe this is why their return rate is minimal.

I wish we could clone this rescue, and pilot it in high-kill areas.

I would not serve on TDL's board of directors if it was run any other way.

I personally adopted a dog from the Dog Liberator! Gisele took the time to listen to me and my wife to find out not only what dog we wanted but the dog that would fit best in our home. After long conversations she called one day and said she had the perfect dog for us. My wife and I went to visit and Asher (our soon to be new family member) warmed up to us quickly and we never let him go.

In the year he has been with us we have been certified for Search and Rescue. I have certified as a SARTECH II through NASAR (National Association for Search and Rescue), and we have certified as a team for Human Remains Detection through NAPWDA (North American Police Working Dog Association). My point is because Gisele took the time to understand our situation and what we needed in a dog vs what we thought we wanted, we are now able to provide a service to families in their darkest hours.

I am truly grateful for this organization and would recommend them to others looking to adopt a new member of their family!

We trusted this rescue and then found out we could not. The founder lied to us about a dog that was being surrendered. The owner told the president of the rescue that it attacked her dog the day he came home. He continued to show aggression. This went on for two years. I asked the president of the rescue and she said she never heard that before. We went to pick up the dog to bring into our home and he attacked our dog more than once. We spent several hundred dollars on revetting the dog. We cared about the dog and then the president of the rescue would not return our calls after hearing of our problem and letting her know she lied to us. She allowed us to bring in an aggressive dog to our home knowing we other pets and a submissive dog from her rescue. Our first rescue from her had fear aggression. The rescue did not keep our dog long enough to learn of its personslity. We spent thousands of dollars rehabilitating this rescue. Now she is using our pictures we sent her of our second rescue and not telling this dog's true story. This rescue can not be trusted.

They take in and find homes for not just easy to adopt puppies and dogs but also dogs with special needs that are blind or deaf or have emotional issues. Gisele has a gift for knowing dogs personalities. They will nurse dogs back to a healthy state to get them ready to adopt. This is what Gisele did for our, Mr. Beans. The Dog Liberator was great to work with, very understanding, and extremely supportive and non-judgmental. She is all in for the animals, leaving the politics, and personal conflicts that come as part of the rescue community for others to stress over. One and half years ago, we adopted our beloved Sasha from TDL. The experience showed the most compassion. Not only for Sasha but for her young rescuer; Alyssa that made the ultimate sacrifice to relinquish her to TDL. Sasha was not a Border Collie or Aussie but was a malnourished stray found with a zip tie around her neck, matted long hair German Shepard. Once she became a TDL dog, she received the royal treatment and never looked back. However, with a firm but gentle pack leader, much training, she is now a trained Service Dog for me and a Certified Therapy Dog for others as well as a wonderful addition to our family. I highly recommend anyone to rescue from TDL because with their canine experience, they were able to reach out, rescue this once diamond in the rough GSD. Thank you TDL of all you do.

We never intended on adopting a deafie, and now that we have one we will NEVER go back! Our sweet girl is always upstaging all the other dogs on the agility equipment, and she has more personality than any dog I have ever met. TDL has been there for us every step of the way - answering all our questions and providing support through medical issues (our dog has many food allergies and we had a rough time getting her diagnosed). Don't even know where to begin but I will try to sum up, in a few words just how special this organization is. My daughter rescued a dog about a year ago from them and it was the best experience for her and him.

Giving these special dogs a new lease on a life that every dog deserves is the only thing they care about.

I work for a children's educational publisher and am in the process of writing a book about shelter and rescue dogs and am including them as my number 1 source for all information and pictures.

Giselle has really shown what devoting your life to a cause you believe in is all about. Selfless, hard working, tirelessly fighting for these animals.

I love them and all that they stand for.

She is protective, caring, and manages an incredible network of volunteers who share a similar love for dogs. Giselle helped my family select the best fit for our home, and when we were ready for a second pet equally helped us make a great choice. I can't say enough positive statements about the quality and love she has for pets and her craft.

I have never met TDL, but I have called and emailed her with my questions and concerns regarding my dogs. She has always taken the time to give me advice, suggestions, recipes, and sometimes just to listen. It is comforting to know that there is someone out there loving the pups until they find their forever home. She is a wonderful person and a blessing to both the furry and me (the not so furry).

If I have extra to give - I send her a paypal donation. Everyone should take the time to just send a few dollars. Make a difference and it only takes a few minutes.

TDL is a dream come true. They were prompt and very responsive, and we didn't have to jump through any hoops to adopt a dog. Gisele was very helpful. She even extended our trial period. I would not hesitate to recommend TDL.

Gisele is one of the most conscientious and hardworking people in animal rescue these days. She's smart, driven, and pragmatic. It's all about what's right for the dogs, not her ego and not your ego. It's not about pushing people and dogs together to get them adopted and out the door. She waits for the right long-term match. If it doesn't work out, she takes that dog back in a heartbeat. She doesn't just run a rescue, she provides a lifetime safety net for Dog Liberator dogs.

I have not had the pleasure of adopting from the organization yet but I follow their adoptions. Giselle seems very professional and organized. She does dogs and humans a great service. We are lucky there are people like her who care so much for animals and find them a perfect home so they can know love.

We adopted a dog through The Dog Liberator last weekend after being in touch with Giselle after our 15 yr old Aussie died. Giselle was an awesome communicator and we felt confident that the "right" dog for us would pass through her hands! He did! Giselle works relentlessly for these lost furry friends. Would recommend TDL to anyone, these folks are in in for the best reasons... Thank you!

I am a vet tech of 10 years. Two years ago I moved down to Florida from the DC area. I had just put down my 14 year old golden retriever, who had been battling Leukemia for a year. After a few months I felt ready to begin the dog search. I had my heart set on rescuing and I wanted a Border Collie. I was interested in a few of their dogs, but unfortunately my timing was never right. I figured if it was meant to be than it will happen on its own. Although I did not adopt from them at that time, I stayed connected and followed them on Facebook.
A few months ago I saw big notice regarding one of their dogs who had quite the past and was in need of being re-homed due to the fall of her health. Jetta was only about 4-5 months old (estimated) when she was brought into the TDL family. Prior to becoming a forever family member, she broke her leg and it was unable to be fixed. Flashing forward four years, her left hind leg is now fused and has very limited range of motion, but let me tell you... it does not stop her from going after her frisbee. Back in November 2013 she began to have Grand Mal Seizures out of the blue. TDL and her owner were behind her back 125%. They did and continue to do everything for this dog. I adopted her back in June 2014 when her seizures started getting worse and I had the time available to work with her and get to her goal of becoming seizure free.
My experience with TDL has been nothing but amazing. One of my many experiences in my career field is that people tend to live with dogs who are just like them (personality and characteristic wise). AND that not every pet owner is crazy, but every crazy person owns a pet. Giselle has the personality of a border collie. She is head strong, hard working, and has a determination that is like no other. There are very few people who are as passionate about what she does and all of her dogs. As she once told me, once a TDL dog always a TDL dog. Everyone in TDL has been more than supportive of Jetta and her condition. She will always have the army that is TDL standing right behind her. She is one INCREDIBLY lucky dog. I would recommend this rescue to anyone looking for dogs in need of a second, third, or fourth chance. Unfortunately, it's not always a perfect match. But there is a match out there somewhere for these lucky dogs. Cheers!

This rescue was a huge help to me when I needed guidance on finding a great home for a stray dog that I took in. Within a week they had him matched with a wonderful family. The Dog Liberator does fantastic work and has helped save the lives of hundreds of dogs. They evaluate each and every one to assure they are placed in the best family possible. In the future I hope to have the honor of volunteering with this great group.

I have been volunteering with The Dog Liberator (TDL) for over 4 years now. I have seen both the outside workings and the inside and I love the rescue through and through. They are a true non-profit and the money goes straight to the dogs and keeping the lights on. The first commitment is to the dog, and then the owner. They work with adopters who are experiencing difficulty and do their best to give their adopters and adopted dogs a positive experience.
There are some "rescues" out there that flip dogs for profit. This is NOT that kind of rescue. These dogs are spayed/neutered and vetted to a greater extent than the average rescue does. If the dog has an ear infection it is treated (and checked for). If their teeth need work it is done. They are groomed/bathed. I adopted a dog from a shelter and at our first vet visit discovered that she had infected ears, intestinal parasites, and a handful of other issues which racked up a decent bill. TDL dogs are different. TDL puts in the effort to ensure you are able to go home and bond (not bond over bills, real bonding!) That is what your adoption fee goes toward: real healthcare and also pulling the next dog.
I recently moved 12 hours away from the rescue, but I so strongly believe in what they are doing that I am still promoting this rescue, volunteer, writing posts, and doing whatever I can to make sure TDL is a success. I hope you will join me in supporting them. No one rescues like The Dog Liberator.

I love working with TDL (The Dog Liberator). I have Transported and provided pictures for them and each time it is met with love and gratitude. I have always been informed about the dogs I would be working with and given what I felt was fair and adequate knowledge about any concerns there might be (such as a dog being a "flight risk" on transport because they have a love of running free, or if a dog was feeling a little fearful due to the shelter). I write this because I feel far too often the average rescue just asks a volunteer to go get a dog and provides little to no information about the animal except its size, it's name or ID, and where it needs to be picked up and dropped off. TDL takes that next step to ensure the safety of both the dog and the volunteer (as well as the volunteer's pets) and that is why I will continue work with them as long as I can.

I have had not one, but two great experiences with TDL. To this day, I look forward to staying in touch via their newsletter, Facebook and other social media. Thankfully this organization does not judge a dog by its cover, but rescues them, fully vets them and the dogs are loved and fostered until re-homed. Both of my boys are perfect house guests and part of our daily lives. Our second adoption had been given up on by one family and today is a perfect dog-yes, I mean perfect. I think as owners, we bring a lot of the behaviors mirrored in our dogs. Thanks TDL for all you do.

TDL is excellent! Dog rescue like many things is a "calling". How they do it on the budget they have is beyond me. Our dog is awesome, and a perfect match for us.

After our adoption, I've gotten to see how they work through the website, social media, and other events. It's become obvious to see that whatever they may "charge" for an adoption fee or get in donations will never match the transportation, food, time expenses, etc... (Just the uploading of pics and story of each dog has got to a full time job in itself). The most obvious would be the vet bills, since each dog is cared for and checked over to become healthy enough for adoption.

TDL is really a rehab facility without the "facility". Since they work out of their home, they ofter hit the limit for local code (of how many dogs one can house at a time). This is why they ask outside parties to foster dogs within the rehabilitation process. We housed one dog last year. It was adopted within a couple weeks. We are now housing another. Most likely it will follow in the same line. From what I've learned, the fostering helps tremendously with the adoption process, since it allows a true observation of the dogs personality within various circumstances (like other dogs, kids, and cats).

In all, I am very satisfied and impressed. I seriously doubt anyone is getting rich off of this. It definitely falls into the "calling" category. Like teaching, fostering, etc...

I have adopted two dogs from TDL and I now volunteer, as well. I like that dogs are fostered in homes and, hopefully, their true nature can be observed. I'm not saying rescues with kennels are bad - this is just my preference. I like the personal attention everyone at TDL pays to each dog that is looking for a forever home - someone saves the dog from the shelter, someone drives them to the vet (this trip can be across Central Florida or across states), someone welcomes them into their home and family while a forever home is sought, many someones answer emails or post to social media to find good matches. TDL sends each dog to the vet and will do whatever it takes to help them to lead long and healthy lives. (Read - this is expensive) I am proud to adopt and volunteer for TDL.

Four years ago we found an older border collie online that needed a new home. The rescue was The Dog Liberator. We meet Dutch and Gisele (founder) within a week. Dutch is a wonderful dog and I am so thankful to Gisele. Her volunteers foster dogs in their homes, with their families and share their love. All so they can give up the dogs for someone else. The Dog Liberator is funded through mostly donations and volunteers. The adoption fees are a fraction of what is spent on vet care, food, etc. I trust The Dog Liberator to provide accurate knowledge about their dogs and good adoption advice. We adopted our second dog last year from them, as well. They are two wonderful dogs that give so much back to us. Thank you Dog Liberator.

I saw that reviewer that said TDL gets pretty dogs off the internet for FREE and sells them after that, uneducated comment and felt compelled to say something. Number one if you cant tell the truth or you don't know the truth don't say anything that will make you look like a fool. I have adopted from TDL and I have fostered for TDL and those dogs are pulled a lot on deathrow FROM SHELTERS, first there's the puller, and then the transporter, some do it for altruistic reasons some get paid , some get gas money depends on the situation. Next is the vet all dogs go the vet next and there isn't a magic fairy who pays the vet bills its Giselle who pays. I was with her one time picking up dogs from the vet and a rescue came in oozing green snot from his nose, he could barely lift his head, TDL saved him, I have seen death row dogs with scars, broken limbs , upper RTI's ,pregnant, dogs that shelters aborted puppies from, tick disease, parvo,( just look at Goldie Hawns story) kennel cough , ripped ears that were sewn back on,intestinal worms, giardia, mange bites, no fur, dogs riddled with hooks worms needing transfusions, fear issues, dogs that were SHOT, sick defeated dogs, that were nursed and loved back to health into beautiful pets by TDL and its fosters.

My experience with dog liberator has been over 5 years. They have adopted to me , I have fostered for them, and they have taken dogs back that needed to be rehomed for health reasons and even dogs from other rescue sources , they have been made into TDL dogs and she has found dream homes for them too. I had a tdl dog, who started with seizures which scared me to death and broke me down watching them and I asked for help and Gisele found a young brilliant vet tech to take my dog Jetta in and she has managed her weight , her meds, her exercise so that my dog has been seizure free for 2 mos now. My other foster dog from another place never got a home because of her bad leg and Gisele found her a home where she is loved and the star of the neighborhood and babysitter to the kids. Chelsea was another TDL dog that lost her home and Gisele took her back in and is in the process if finding her a forever home she is now with a wonderful foster family. the Dog Liberator always takes her dogs back and fixes the situation every time. Co-operation is all that's needed

I remember a time that a dog was adopted and the adopter lost the dog upon bringing them home ant Gisele called every shelter in their area to be on the lookout for them (all dogs are microchipped at TDL expense also) and organized searchers to look for the dog, It was found BTW. Not many rescues do that for their clients. All in all The Dog Liberator is one of the best and fairest rescues I have seen that not only for your fee, ( believe me the fee that's usually less than the vet bills )you become part of the TDL family and you are received even years later after the adoption as a friend. Not many non profits can say that.

My husband and I adopted our wonderful dog from The Dog Liberator about a year and a half ago. As a fan of herding breeds and herding mixes, we had been following TDL for quite a while before deciding to adopt. When our 12 year old Border Collie passed away two years ago, we were devastated. We knew that our next dog would be a rescue, and that they would come from TDL.

We had a few requirements for a new dog, the main ones being that he or she would get along with other dogs and cats, and that they'd be OK with children as well (we have nieces and nephews that our dog would be around frequently). Because of the excellent job TDL does "vetting" their dogs, we knew exactly what we'd be getting based on the thorough write-ups on their website and on their Facebook page.

When we saw our dog's story, it really touched us. Here was a dog that had been a stray, covered in ticks, emaciated, and VERY fearful. Gisele, and the rest of the TDL family, did an amazing job of building his confidence and getting him healthy. They tested him with dogs, cats, and children, and he thrived under their care.

They are so committed to finding the right homes for the right dogs, and that commitment really showed with our adoption experience. We love our TDL dog so much. He's wonderful in every way, a gentle and kind spirited friend!

Since adopting from TDL, we have fostered two dogs. This experience has been a real pleasure - an opportunity to give back to them what they gave to us, and a chance to help connect more people with their perfect matches. And the support we've received from TDL during the fostering period has been great. These people are so committed to helping dogs find the right people. I really can't recommend them enough!

We bought a dog from the Dog Liberator for $325. The Dog Liberator might call itself a non-profit but it is a company that finds pretty dogs for free on the internet, uses volunteers to feed and house them, then sells them for a profit.  I am fine with that.  People have to work.  Unfortunately they are not honest about the dogs they sell.  The Dog Liberator knowingly placed a dog with a history of aggression to visitors in a Bed & Breakfast that gets hundreds of visitors.  This dog spent her 2 years of life guarding a family farm in Georgia. She lived outside with an older dog and never lived inside the house because their child was allergic. They were hoping the dog would grow up to protect the property, like their old dog, except she started killing the neighbors chickens.  So they put her on a 100 foot wire run with a 20 foot runner.  She became territorial and was aggressive to the UPS driver when he drove up.  I got all this in the first 5 minutes of a phone call to the the original owner.  The Dog Liberator told us she was a house pet when in fact she was a guard dog who had never lived in a house.  The dog was infested with flees, clearly had never been house broken and began leaving her mark all over the house. Within 2 weeks the dog was growling at some of our guests. I have tried to return the dog to the Dog Liberator so she can be placed into an appropriate home, a private home or farm with some room to run. For the past month, I have sent several emails to the women in charge requesting she pick-up the dog and refund our $325. She has condemned this poor dog to a life on the patio. She can’t be left outside, even tethered, for fear she will growl at a guest of the property and she can’t be trusted not to go in the house. The Dog Liberator’s owner wants us to transport the dog 140 miles and give the dog back to her for free so she can sell the dog again and double her profit, $650 profit on one dog. It appears to me that Dog Liberator’s owner is far more interested in the money she makes from selling dogs than the well-being of the dogs themselves. Please do not be fooled by the pleasant nature of her initial contact. Looking for a dog - your emails will get a quick reply. Buy a dog - you will get lots of emails asking you to donate more money to the “cause”. Try to return a dog for a refund- no reply. When you peel back the curtain, things look different on the inside. At least the donation emails stopped coming. Now I have to do her job and find an appropriate home for this dog - for free. Do yourself a favor and stay away from these for-profit “rescues”. Visit a local animal shelter where they care more about the animals than the money.

I met Gisele, head of organization, at the Deland Mardi Paws canine parade and community gathering last February. She was kind enough to answer our questions re living with a Collie vs an Australian Shepherd as we noticed she was walking both. I accepted her business card and would periodically check her website to see her success stories, etc.
On July 2nd I checked the website and read about a particular dog and viewed a short video of him. He had been adopted from Tallahassee Animal Control (who had spent 5 days trying to catch him in a park) by a foster volunteer for The Dog Liberator, evaluated around different people & animals, and then transported to Giselle in Deltona. I sent a substantial email to Gisele describing our household and dog experience level and that we were interested in meeting that dog, if she felt we were a good match. She responded promptly and we met her at her Vet's in Deltona the next day to see if it was a good match. Gisele was upfront about his earlier circumstances as well as his great qualities and possible health concerns. She gave us a 2 week period in which to take home our boy and get to know him, with the understanding that, if it didn't work out, we could return him and receive our adoption fee back. Given that he was utd on shots, bordetella, heartworm, intestinal worming, recently neutered and microchipped, as well as bathed and brushed out that day, I felt the adoption fee was quite reasonable.
We have had our boy for 2 weeks now, and he is "a keeper." Gisele has shown great interest in his status and accomplishments and I have enjoyed keeping her posted by text or email. I strongly recommend potential adopters follow her suggested reading re housebreaking for their newly homed friend. I have had both adult rescues as well as young puppies, and it was still very helpful to review. I could tell our boy was used to living in a home, but the stress and newness of it all definitely made it necessary to "start from scratch" on the housebreaking.

We had been looking for a new dog for the last year, we went to visit several different dogs, but we have two little ones in the house, a 1 year old and a 3 year old, and it was very difficult to find a dog that was good with babies, as well as, teenagers. Giselle worked with us and matched us with Lady Arabella!! The most wonderful Collie!! She fits us perfectly. She cuddles with everyone and she is my 13 year old boys joy!! She also loves my 15 year daughter and my 17 year old son! Giselle was the first person that I spoke to that truly understood exactly what we needed. She was such a blessing to our whole family!! She cared about our family as much as she cared about Arabella, and that was the best match in the world. TDL helped me place a Border Collie I fostered for over a year (and had been turned down for sponsorship by other rescue groups) within two weeks. Jack was a wonderfully mannered, handsome, mature Border Collie with severe PTSD. Jack required a careful placement in a loving, nurturing, low-stress home with mellow, sensitive people with Border Collie experience that were home most of the time. He also had some minor health issues that needed to be addressed and was much happier with other polite dogs around. Giselle not only agreed to sponsor but helped me with his profile and pictures. She also told me to "pack Jack's bags" - that her network of adoptees was fantastic and boy, was she right! That impossible-to-find, narrow-niche forever-home called wanting to meet Jack and within days they drove from the Orlando area to Atlanta to pick him up in person with their Companion Dog certified Border Collie. After he adjusted to his new home, they arranged for the surgery he needed. I can never thank Giselle and TDL enough for finding the exact family that could finish healing Jack's shattered soul. Her network of REPEAT adopters speaks volumes.

This is such a wonderful Dog Rescue group. They gave me hints on how to try and catch a stray near where I live. Although I was not successful, Animal Control was and the Dog Liberator picked him up and he turned out to be a deaf and blind pooch which is why he was so scared and would never let me get close enough to catch. He is beautiful and was adopted into a wonderful home.
I also love the way this organization continually gives update on past adoptees.

Found my precious Roxy through this organization. After visiting several shelters, I realized I would not be able to really "interview" a dog in those conditions. I went to Roxy's foster home and even though we had a rocky start, I could see her personality and knew she would turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to us.

I have volunteered for several dog rescues and the best, by far, is The Dog Liberator. TDL knows her herding breeds well and generously shares very helpful information on these dogs' needs and how to live with them. TDL's foster friends get to know each dog, so important in placing each dog in the perfect match home. Thanks to The Dog liberator for her great work helping save our Best Friends and place them in their perfect Furever homes!

We adopted our beautiful border collie Charlie in 2010 and four years later she is doing great! She has been a true blessing in our lives. Our adoption process was simple and moved quickly making it such a pleasant experience. Working in the animaI field I hear terrible stories sometimes about the waiting times and tedious process some rescues put people through and I always feel so lucky to have found TDL. If I ever want to adopt again I know where to go! I wish them all the best.

We adopted our beautiful border collie Charlie from TDL in august of 2010. We had recently lost our first border collie Maggie to a brain tumor and were devastated. Words could not express what a joy Charlie has been in our lives. TDL made the process as smooth as possible. They returned my email right away an were very helpful. I did not have to fill long applications or go through home visits. They ask the questions that need to be asked to see if they have a good fit and move quickly to get these dogs into their new permanent homes. Too many rescues today are hoarding their pets until they find their "perfect" homes. Homes with small children(since when are kids and animals not compatible?), renters with permits for animals, senior citizens and others can all offer great homes for pets. I feel that these groups of people are often discriminated against and the result is less animals get adopted out quickly. The end result, more beautiful, perfectly healthy animals get euthanized because rescues are holding so many animals for long periods of time and there is simply no more room. This is not what rescue should be about. I work in the animal field and know the best pet owners are not the ones with the most money or the biggest homes and no kids, the best pet owners are the ones that truly love their animals. They will move heaven and earth to help their pets if need be. Their pets are true members of their family. I believe TDL understands and exemplifies excellently what rescue should be. They provide an excellent service to their clients, the community, and most importantly to the beautiful animals they rescue. If I'm ever interested in adopting again, I know where I'm going!

We got our border collie from TDL when she was just 10weeks old. The whole process from application to adoption was amazing and I would totally adopt from them
Again (if my husband would let me! Lol) We could tell our pup was well cared for and even trained while with her foster, as she was pretty much potty trained and crate trained when we brought her home! Thank you TDL for a most gorgeous girl!

After several years following the Dogliberator web site, we finally found our German Shepard pup 3 months ago. Gisele usually rescues herding breeds but when she came across a 6 mos old wild, and emaciated pup at 27 pounds she, like us, had to have her. Gisele saw "something" in her eyes and when we saw her picture we saw something special too. So, Gisele coordinated her volunteers to have the pup transported from Alabama to Florida for us! The entire adoption process was amazingly smooth. Our Sasha was fully vetted and spayed prior to picking her up. All my new dog parent questions were answered. Now after three mos. Sasha is obedient trained, and 50 pounds! She sparkles like a diamond! Gisele does an outstanding job and all of the volunteers she has make this organization TOP Notch!

I have been following the Dogliberator website daily for at least a year. I want to take this opportunity to report that this nonprofit rescue could not have more dedicated, compassionate volunteers than what they have. I have watched so many dogs be rehabilitated then successfully adopted through the Dogliberator. The efforts, and dedication of this nonprofit go beyond any dog nonprofit that I have followed online in the state of Florida! Gisele and her group of volunteers have single handedly made this nonprofit NUMBER 1. They continue to be creative with fundraising ideas to keep their mission a priority--Dogs. I have learned so much about the herding breed that I love. In time, I will again allow myself the pleasure and joy of owning a Border Collie. Three years later, my heart still aches for our beloved Shadow. I can only wish that one day, I can open my heart and be fortunate enough to adopt a TDL dog. As I've learned, when I see the posting, I will know it's time and I will go pick up my TDL dog.
I highly recommend the Dogliberator as a TOP Number 1 Nonprofit.

Our "Happy Home" of 25yrs was missing a very important component to the dynamic after our last pet passed earlier this year. My wife and I had discussed getting another dog and after researching several breeds, we agreed that an Australian Sheep Dog would be an excellent choice.
Watching the "Westminster Kennel Club" competition on Thanksgiving Day, we followed a beautiful Border Collie strut with grace and confidence delighting the audience and inspiring us to Google: "Border Collie" after the show.
Well, the first web site that popped up on my screen was TDL and instead of a Border Collie (which they do rescue).......a picture of the most beautiful Aussie we had ever seen was looking back at both of us with his head cocked slightly to the right and his eye's saying, "I'm the One!" His name is, "Bennett's Boot's."
The touching story of his rescue as well as those who were involved convinced us that this was more then just coincidence!
Our first e-mail to "The Dog Liberator" was answered within an hour of our inquiry of Mr. Boot's availability. We then followed up with a string of at least four more e-mailed questions and were offered to call if we wanted that evening (and did). All this on Thanksgiving Day!
TDL staff love what they do. Their passion for both the animals they save and the family's like our's that are blessed to find them can only be matched by the unconditional love Mr. Boot's has brought to our hearts and home. We are eternally grateful for the work of TDL and will make it a tradition to add them to our Thanksgiving prayers.

From my first contact with TDL, my phone calls and e-mails were returned promptly. I was interviewed to ensure a good fit, and quickly introduced to a pup. We adopted Tigger (now Toby) and have been enjoying him ever since. He was obviously well-fostered! He loves people, toys, bones (thanks for the tip, Gisele!), and is a delight to train. We couldn't have asked for a smoother process.

I adopted our dog Bandit from TDL almost 3 years ago. They were very kind and professional. I was originally interested in another dog, but when I described our specific needs, another dog was recommended. Our Bandit came with a profile. I knew that he would be a good fit for our family. He did well with small children and cats. In fact, I adopted Bandit sight unseen (by choice.....pictures were provided). I knew he was the perfect dog for us without even knowing how absolutely gorgeous he was.......and believe me he is gorgeous (inside and out). TDL, held my hand through the entire process. You see, I live in Florida, but Bandit was from Georgia. They had him transported to my area. They were always available to answer any questions. In fact, I would have no qualms about picking up the phone to this day if I needed their help. We were treated like old friends. You can tell that they have you and their dog's best interest at heart. I highly recommend TDL to adopt your forever canine companion.

The Dog Liberator takes the time to be sure the dog is fully healthy and will be a good match for your home and life style. They are not afraid to rescue a dog that may require medical attention ane certainly go the extra mile. They do a lot of work with deaf and blind dogs and take a lot of owner surrenders . The concern is always about what is best for the dog and not about money.

I adopted a wonderful dog from TDL. Not only did they rescue her from almost certain death in a kill shelter but they took the time to get to know her medically and psychologically before they interviewed me to determine if I would be a good fit for this pup. It is this kind of dedication to finding the right home for the right dog that accounts for the outstanding success they have in placements. They just do it right.

I honestly came by this rescue just by chance. I work for a great Australian Cattle Dog Rescue out in Arizona but I was really interested to see if there were Australian Shepherd puppies out in the states that needed rescuing. I am not seriously looking for a second dog yet, but I wanted to know if it was possible to adopt a pure bred aussie puppy. Low and behold that is the case. I came across the "friends" litter on pet finder and was so happy to see that my dream can come true one day. I am now Facebook friends with Dog Liberator and they seem to have such a fun atmosphere with in their organization and do a great job saving lives. Its important for me to see such fun with in a rescue and not a group that is constantly sharing the negative and need for money aspect of things. As a fellow rescue volunteer I know way too well the constant need of foster homes and donors and the fact that so many dogs die each day, so to see an extremely up beat group is very refreshing. I may live in AZ but I love Dog Liberator from a far. Keep on keeping on :D.

I always recommend this rescue to anyone who tells me they are interested in adopting a dog (especially a herding breed). I was so lucky to find their website - I could tell by reading their updates about their rescue projects and animals that they were the rescue I wanted to adopt from. They are so vigilant about vetting their animals, and making sure that they get the best care/attention possible. And I love that they take in so many special needs dogs (blind, deaf, blind AND deaf, heartworm positive, etc.).

I got a 3yr old Australian Cattle Dog from them, and they have always helped me with him - even after adoption. He had over $600 worth of vetting done for heartworm and URI when they got him from MDAS thanks to donations. When I did my foster-to-adopt, he had a bad reaction to an anti-anxiety before his neuter and they STILL paid for the med AND to have him neutered at a later date - even though I had paid the adoption fee already.

Every time I had problems with the vet not being able to find his paperwork for this or that, their Miami liason, Jackie, would text me back in seconds and always got what I needed within minutes. Having her there for me and keeping contact with his old fosters whenever I needed anything was priceless to me. I always tell people, if you adopt from The Dog Liberator - you get a little extended rescue family along with your dog!

These are truly unbelievable people with an unbelievable amount of experience, kindness, and love for these dogs. I am thankful every day that I got my dog from such a wonderful, reputable rescue and didn't settle for anything less than The Dog Liberator.

This is a great group who helps animals in need find good and safe homes. They match the animals with people who will be likely to keep them safe for a lifetime. If an unforeseen event happens the group will take an animal back into the rescue fold and replace it within another safe place. I know personally of animals who were helped. Some were older, and had little chance within the traditional shelter system. Some were sick, injured or very young. All have been given the best medical care and attention as they waited for forever homes. I do recommend them as a place to ask for help when needed adn as a place to adopt from when looking for a pet.

The Dog Liberator Rescue group is one who stands out as educational, helpful, and gives top care to the animals it takes in to their care. They are willing to help people retain their animals when possible, and re-home when necessary. The rescue is willing to help educate pet owners, including those who have rescued from another organization. Animals who find themselves in need of rescue from open intake shelters or as owner surrenders, are very well cared for at TDL. They are given the veterinarian care, training and support they need to become good pets. Homes are found that match the needs of the animals best so these dogs, (and sometimes cats) stay with the new families for life. Thanks for a caring and nicely run rescue group TDL is one of the best!

After loosing our 13 y/o Aussie and 8 months later our 15+ y/o Jack Russel Terrier we started looking into local rescue groups so that when we were ready we would have a organization already picked out to work with. Every place I looked TDL kept popping up as a Great Rescue Group with very happy families and outcomes. We knew we prefer herding dogs so we decided this was the place for us too. After waiting 2 months we decided we just needed another pet in our home so we contacted Gisele with our info and we didn't have to wait long at all for a match. We have a 22 y/o daughter on the Autism Spectrum so we were really concerned that the pup and she would bond. Gisele understood exactly what what we were looking for and called to tell us to come over to meet "Amelia" (now known as Leia). It was love at first touch. They both (daughter and pup) just seemed to melt into each other. So the rest, as they say, is history. Leia went home with us and the two girls are wonderful together. That was this past November and we have since added another puppy to our family. What a Great Group this is. Couldn't ask for anything more. In fact I believe this so much that I am now a volunteer.

We had recently lost our great farm dog, Maggie, and were feeling like there was a big hole in our family. We had to be careful with what kind of dog we got since we have 2 small chihuahuas and several indoor cats. We had been matched with a senior German Shepard Dog by another rescue that was supposed to be small dog and cat friendly, but sadly the dog was not a match and we were very stressed by having to return her (we fostered her for 3 weeks, but her prey drive was too strong and our animals were all afraid). After that experience, we were nervous, but still wanted a farm dog. I remembered the lovely Rough Collie we had years ago, and how gentle yet proctective she was. At that time, I happened to see 2 Smooth Collie puppies on PetFinder under The Dog Liberator site. The timing was perfect and both Gisele and Laura (the foster mom) were fabulous. We got to meet the puppies and determine which was the best fit for our farm and other animals.
Today we are so happy to have Brodie the Collie puppy. He gets along so well and he is so well mannered due to all of Laura's work with him. This is a well-organized rescue with a big heart and a lot of practical knowledge.

Three years ago we adopted a blue-eyed border collie from TDL. "Zoe" soon became a real family member. I never had a dog before and was apprehensive about having one. My fears were unfounded as I quickly fell in love with this girl. Unfortunately, a week ago she died unexpectedly of pancreatic and liver cancer. I never thought I could be affected by an animal like this, but I boohooed for days afterward. After notifying TDL of Zoe's passing they called us several times to see how we were and then put together a video in remembrance of Zoe. It was so beautiful and summed up perfectly Zoe's life with us. Other members of TDL and the community wrote to console us and even though we/I am still grieving, their support has meant a lot. TDL is an extraordinary organization that has saved many pets and touched many hearts. They have and are going out of their way to help us acquire a new dog.

TDL is one of the great ones out there. I have gotten so much advice and help with my BC mix. They were one of the first I contacted when I saw a beautiful little girl at a kill shelter that I was desperate to get out. With their guidance I contacted a local rescue and she was saved and is in foster care.

I had the opportunity to work with this wonderful organization over the summer, and it was an honor to help TDL out. No one works harder to make sure these dogs get the right home than TDL. It is also important to point out that not only does the organization work hard to make sure that the home is right for the dog, but they also make sure that the dog is right for the owner. They go above and beyond for both the dogs and the owners.

Our family has adopted 2 awesome new members from TDL. They have helped us by finding dogs that match our needs (small children.) They follow up and remain a valuable resource for questions long after the adoption. I highly recommended TDL to anyone who asks us about where our pups came from.

All of our pets have come from shelters and rescue groups, but The Dog Liberator is by far the best organization we have dealt with for pet adoption. In fact, we're were so impressed with our first adoption experience that our family members offered to foster and ended up with a pet of their own.
They have extremely knowledgable, compassionate, dedicated network of volunteers & medical staff and excellent follow up communication after the dog finds a new loving home. We look forward to the "TDL family reunion" each year and whole-heartedly recommend The Dog Liberator to anyone who is looking to add a furry member to the family!

We had had a bad/sad experience with a BC mix that turned out to be too aggressive and a biter.

Giselle walked us through understanding what our personality types needed for a good match, and got Petals (now Gracie) for us. That was barely a month ago, and she is already our favorite "child"!

The lengths to which Giselle and all her volunteers go to rescue dogs is truly amazing -- and I haven't hesitated to contact her for advice on our assimilation process (Gracie was quite shy and afraid of our cats!), because I know her caring doesn't stop when we take our babies home.

I first learned about The Dog Liberator about two years ago when I started looking for a dog. I've always loved collie-type dogs--I even had a collie-beagle mix when I was a kid--and this type of dog is TDL's specialty. Well, I had several e-mail conversations with Gisele about adopting a dog, and we discussed at length the fact that I have cats and how that might work with a herding-type dog (not really well, as it turns out, unless the dog has been trained from young to accept them as part of his/her pack).

Well, at the time I was searching, there didn't seem to be a good cat-friendly match from TDL, so I continued searching other avenues. I ended up adopting a Carolina Dog (American Dingo) from another rescue organization in Florida after I learned that CDs are especially good with cats (and other small animals in the household). I let Gisele know about our new family member, shared some pictures, and told her all about our little "Dixie." Even though this was not one of her dogs, she was very supportive and helpful, even sharing a few training tips in our e-mail conversations.

I continue to receive e-mail updates from TDL, donate money when I can, and "ooo" and "ah" over all the pictures of the new dogs that come into this rescue. TDL is an incredible organization, and Gisele is an incredible person for creating it and running it in the very different, very personal way that she does. Even though our dog did not come from TDL, I really feel like I'm a part of this organization, and that's all because of Gisele. Who knows, I may adopt one of Gisele's dogs someday in the future, or maybe I'll even get to be a foster home and help out that way. We'll see! All I can say is that The Dog Liberator is one fantastic dog rescue group, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new, furry family member!

He had gone through quite a hardship including near death twice but TDL took great care of him until he was well enough to be adopted. The Dog Liberator keeps us in the loop in happenings and even does a yearly reunion where all the dogs and humans get together and catch up. It's great to be part of the TDL pack!

Three years ago I adopted a blue-eyed border collie from TDL. Of all the dogs in her pack TDL recommended this little girl as a good fit and she was very right to do so. "Zoe" was an older dog and very nervous and scared on our 3 hour drive home. But soon she became a real family member. Unfortunately, three days ago she died unexpectedly of pancreatic and liver cancer. I notified TDL of her death and immediately she asked me to call her and send photos. She called me several times to see how I was and then put together a video in remembrance of Zoe. It was so beautiful and somehow Gisele summed up "perfectly" Zoe's life with us. Other members of TDL and the community wrote to console me and even though I am still grieving, their support means a lot. TDL is an extraordinary organization that has saved many pets and touched many hearts.

My partner and I recently lost our dog of 13 years and were ready to adopt a new member to our family. After looking at dozens of pictures of dogs I kept comming back to one of TDL dogs, Alfie. After several e-mails we made the trip to Deltona. Giselle met us with Afie in her arms. She then explained to us the process of transitioning Afie to a new enviroment. After talking with us and listening to our story and telling us Afies story and telling us of the challenge it might be I was glad she thought it was a match. She didn't make us feel that it was going to be a daunting challenge but one that we were more qualified to meet. Alfie has been a joy. So glad I chose the dog I did and that he was in such great hands has TDL.

I adopted an 18 month old Border Collie (Rexie) from the Dog Liberator. His foster mom and Giselle decided I was a good fit and I have to say it was the other way around! Rex has been an amazing addition to my pack. He is incredibly smart and sooooooooo loving. I wanted a "disc dog" and boy did I get one! These "high drive", intelligent dogs are often abandoned when the owners are unable or unwilling to invest the time and effort into training. Unfortunately they are usually past the cute puppy stage so the become more of a challenge to rehome and they also may have behavioral issues due to boredom and mishandling. Gisselle steps up and takes these dogs in (from all over) and gives them and us a second chance. A huge thanks from Rex and the Rush family!

At three months old, Bartholomew was dumped in a shelter’s night dropbox. The Dog Liberator pulled him from the shelter and drove him to the vet where he was diagnosed with Parvo. Fearing for his life, Gisele sought the best treatment available to save him. He recovered from Parvo, but was diagnosed with pneumonia a couple of weeks later. Thanks to great care, love and a lot of support , he survived the pneumonia too. A month later, my husband and I adopted this healthy, playful, spirited puppy. Bart has given us a lot of love, affection and joy. We have given him a loving forever family, and The Dog Liberator has continued to serve as a wonderful pet community. I have been involved from the beginning of The Dog LIberator. I have watched it grow from working with border collies and then adding other breeds, to finding fosters or adoptive homes and transporting dogs who were in need. I personally have found and brought dogs to Gisele who evaluated them and found wonderful loving families for them. I was there for some of the heartache of caring for sick and dying dogs that Gisele tried to save with her vet. I highly recommend The Dog Liberator as a successful program for finding a second life for dogs who need one. She has gathered a competent crew to help her.

The Dog Liberator is remarkable on every level. Gisele has put together a program that should serve as a model for all animal rescues. An incredible network of volunteers who rescue, foster, and genuinely care have saved countless wonderful dogs from all over Florida and adjoining states. No shelters... real home fostering lets these dogs relax, re-socialize, and reveal their true nature. TDL has harnessed the power of social media to tell the stories of these dogs, which in turn helps them find their way into new homes with the best chance of forever success. We adopted our pair of Border Collie brothers, Boone & Dock, almost 2 years ago. Their story of rescue by TDL from a shelter in GA was both heartbreaking and inspiring... we are forever grateful to the entire team who saved them at the last minute from a certain sad fate, placed them into the loving foster care of Kevin & Mel, and made it possible for two amazing dogs to bless our lives. The Dog Liberator is a 5-star non-profit in every way.

So I was able to pick up the dog without any problems which sometimes is not the case. I had learned of the work of Gisele and the Dog Liberator when my own dog, Lettie was getting older and eventually passed. Their knowledge of herding breeds and how to re-home them shows just how much care they have for these intelligent dogs. Knowing that a high energy dog isn't right for everyone is the first step, and pairing the dog with the right owner can be a touchy affair.

Gisele knew we were right for our McNab Dog, Rack (formerly Les Paul), and she was able to bring him around from a shocked owner-surrender to a dog who began the work of recuperating so he could be the friendly and energetic companion he is now. Gisele and her family along with with her dogs are all trained to ease their rescues into a new life in just the right home. Her own dogs are an active and integral part of this process and help her judge just what is the best next step, whether it is at her home in Deltona or at one of the fosters in the area.

There's more than one Dog Whisperer around!

I am truly happy to have had the experience of meeting Gisele and her family, her pack of dogs, and to bring Rack into our lives.

We reside on Long island, with an acre of property and have the luck of another Border Collie, "Diana" , now 16 years old. We saw a video on "Dog Liberator site" ,showing puppies and my wife elected to fly down and get one as she was so moved. There, we were screened appropriately for compliance of responsibility to having such a high energy ,smart bundle of life, "Asti and my wife ,Margaret flew back the same day from Florida . It became clear that the handler who helped save and rear the pups was dedicated. I don’t even know where to start to share my love and gratitude with the Dog Liberator. I was introduced to Gisele and The Dog Liberator in late May 2013 while on a mission to find a border collie. My goal was to find an adult BC that I could train for pet therapy. Gisele found me the perfect dog. She was a classic black and white, 7 years old and just a beautiful girl. Her name was Maggie May and she was brought in from Alabama. My husband and I met her on a Sunday night; completed the adoption; and she headed to the vet on Monday to be spayed. Unfortunately during her surgery they discovered that she had untreatable cancer. Gisele immediately contacted me and we jointly decided that we would not let her suffer. It was a very hard decision and one that brought numerous tears, but we knew it was the right thing to do. We found peace in knowing that she had been adopted and she was loved.

Gisele and I continued to stay in touch and knew that the right dog would come along. I had a mental picture in my mind that I wanted to have another Maggie May. Gisele recommended that I open my aperture and consider something other than a classic black and white. I listened to her and knew that she was right. In mid June a sweet tri color border collie mix was being brought into The Dog Liberators Rescue and Gisele wanted me to meet her. She was rescued as Evie and was flown into Herndon Executive Airport on Wednesday, June 17th. I was able to accommodate the transport and picked her up at the airport. It was love at first sight! I drove her to Gisele’s in Deltona and we immediately took her for her vet check, shots and microchip. She was perfect! She was renamed Hannah (Perfect name for a good-natured pet. (Hebrew) - 1 Sam. 1:2 - "gracious; merciful; he that gives.") and came home with me that evening. The rest is history! She quickly adapted to her new home and we feel truly blessed that she found us!

All of this was made possible by the love, commitment, honesty, and caring character of Gisele Veilleux. Her heart loves each and every dog that comes through her rescue. Her main goal is to make sure every dog she adopts out has a loving and forever home. I cannot say enough good things about The Dog Liberator rescues expect thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I adopted my dog Cricket from TDL almost three years ago. I am grateful everyday to the team of volunteers that pulled her from the shelter in Alabama, transported her to Florida and then fostered her until she became a beloved part of our family. Dog rescue is an incredibly stressful undertaking, yet TDL covers all the bases to make sure that each dog gets the resources it needs; be that medical care, training, learning how to be a dog(whoda thunk that some dogs actually need to learn how to play!) or just learning how to accept the love of a human. I have since become a volunteer for TDL, fostering and transporting many dogs over the last few years and this is what I know for sure. Each dog gets what it needs in order to be successfully adopted. And the humans who help them get there also get what they need in terms of support and information from the team at TDL. The number of repeat adopters speaks louder than words. Adoptive families trust TDL and prove it by coming back. I love my TDL dog and remember with fondness every single TDL dog who I have had the pleasure of helping along the way to his forever family. It has been a pleasure to adopt from, and volunteer for, The Dog Liberator.

The Dog Liberator rescue is amazing! A few years ago my daughter reached out to Gisele for help in saving a dog from Miami Dade Animal Services. MDAS is one of the world's largest shelters. It is a high volume high kill shelter. We had found the Dog Liberator via the Internet when searching for a rescue that would help with a Border Collie mix pup at MDAS that was on the euthanasia list. Thanks to Gisele the dog was saved and she has never stopped helping save dogs from MDAS since then. She has saved countless lives including heartworm positive dogs (Joey) and dogs labeled fearful (Adam and Avril Levine). She provides them with excellent care until they are ready for a forever home. I first found Gisele through the Internet as I was searching to rescue a dog after loosing my little dog Freedom who was almost 17 yrs. old. I spoke with her several times upon seeing dogs I liked and each time she told me they weren't suited to my wants and needs and for me to be patient and she would find the right dog for me.

In the meantime, being impatient, I also searched other rescues even adopting a dog that I had to return the following morning after it bit me when I was trying to unleash it.
In finding what she thought would be the right dog, she phoned me even before she had received the dog telling me all about it and seeing if I wanted it. I was so thrilled, even promising her that I wouldn't get my hopes up if it didn't work out.

Then she sent me a picture of the little Sheltie, Blake, who I later named Prince the day they picked him up. I fell in love with the little guy as he looked so sad and I felt needed reassuring that he was loved. Well, so much for promises on my part.

Up until I finally picked him up, Giselle kept in touch with me on a daily basis per computer or phone even sending me pictures, 81 in all, and letting me me know when he was going to the vet and grooming, if he was OK on a leash, house trained, was good with people, etc.

The day that I picked him up, he came home with a new leash and harness, she even sent him home with her daughters favorite brush, just in case I couldn't find one. I promised to send it back when I found one. I found one so it is going back this week.

I found her very honest as Prince is all she said he was and I am truly grateful to Gisele and her team for rescuing my little Prince. I couldn't have found a better dog.

I have since told 3 others about her rescue even telling them how honest she was with me and that if ever I wanted another dog, I would go through her.

She and her team deserves 5+ stars.

She truly does love the dogs

I made my first donation to this rescue and they were so thankful. I truly believe that the Dog Liberator has saved many herding dogs that would have been put down if they had not rescued them. Border collies and Australian shepherds are often misunderstood and wind up in shelters because they are "difficult to handle". The Dog Liberator takes the time to rescue and match the dogs up with the right owners. They are an amazing rescue group and I enjoy seeing every rescue find a forever home.

I have know some of the founding members of the DogLiberator for years. They do an amazing job of matching the right dog with the right adopter so they have a very few dogs returned. However, if it doesn't work out, they will always take the dog back. All of their dogs are fully vetted, spayed / neutered and heartworm tested before going to their permanent homes.

I have referred numerous adopters to them and everyone has always been extremely satisfied with the level of professional, level of service care of the dogs.

Overall, a great organization.

Our family was blessed by Dog Liberator Dog. After being turned down by two other rescue groups "due to pregnancy." Gisele was able to see our whole situation. We wanted an adult dog who would be good with a baby. She gave us many good instructions on how to best prepare the dog and our habits for baby's arrival. She takes the time to learn the temperament and nuances of each of the dogs in her charge. She takes the time to get to know her clients, their needs to find a dog that will be the best fit for each family to help reduce the likelihood of the dog needing to be returned. Not only is this good for families, but one at a time, she improves the life of the dogs in her care. Her fees are fair, and help keep her organization viable so she can continue working to find the best homes for homeless dogs. She manages her resources well to make every dollar stretch for the animals in her care.

We are now the proud parents to an 11month old, and our dog is a wonderful part of our family. He is so gentle with the baby, and is very excited for the day baby learns how to throw a Frisbee.

Zelda here, AKA Nuettla! I was rescued by the Dog Liberator back in 2010 where I went through some rough times. I had a playful soul and mind, but my previous owners before me (all three of them) surrendered me. I was left for dead, alone, and scared. I became a fear bitter. Locked in my cage, no one wanted me. My bark was scary but I didn't want anyone to lead me on like they really loved me and then let me go to break my heart. When I came in to Giselles care, I was shaky at first.. but within days I became part of her border collie pack. The dogs they had there were very nice, and there were people over to take them to their forever home. Thats all I wanted.. I waited for the day I would be in my masters arms. And finally, the day had come. When I first met her, I was so scared... I didn't get near her. She tried to lure me with food, but I knew better. She sat with me for hours until I got close enough to smell her. I could tell she wasn't going to give up easily. I knew Giselle wasn't going to give me up too easily too, as I felt like her favorite. The next day, the young lady came back.... but determined. She grabbed me and wouldn't let go. I fought for a while, but felt at peace in her arms as I knew I had found my master, my mommy, my savior. She took me and I couldn't be happier! Four years later, we are inseparable! Thank you Dog Liberator and Giselle for giving me the time I needed to break out of my fear shell. I'd be up on rainbow bridge without a master if it wasn't for you. Thank you. From the bottom of my fluffy heart.

After volunteering with The Dog Liberator for a couple years, I had to move up North. During a visit to Florida I went to visit Gisele to spend some time with her. She greeted me with this adorable little fluffy, white, aussie pup. I was in love, I had to have her. At first I was trying to hold back the temptation of adopting her...but after spending the day with her and seeing how amazing China was with some training. I decided I could also have that relationship with a deaf/mute dog.

We brought her home. It was hard to learn how to interact with this little puppy. I remember one time I woke up from a nap and couldnt find her...I stopped around hoping she would feel my vibrations. I tried to be as loud as possible. After no avail, I looked everywhere...ended up finding her behind the couch.

Gisele didn't just let us adopt a dog and that was the end of it. She helped us learn how to work with a deaf/mute dog. She was there every step of the way as we learned to work with each other.

The Dog Liberator did not just provide me with a dog, I was provided with a life experience. I added an amazing member to my family and a best friend to my daughter and myself.

Four years ago this coming December, we adopted our Trixie Belle from TDL. I had a friend who had recently adopted a Border Collie from TDL, and had gone to their site "just to look". I saw the video posted of Trixie, and somehow talked my husband into going to meet her. We already had two Border Collies, and brought them with us, not really expecting they would all get along (and still not sure my husband would go for adding another dog to our household). Cut to "Happily Ever After"... Trixie is my husband's girlie, totally a "daddy's girl". Trixie was approximately one year old when we got her, and a very well behaved girl. Trixie came from a high-kill shelter in Alabama. We cannot believe someone would ever have let this little treasure go. But are so VERY thankful, Becky (her rescuer), and TDL saved her. Thank you!

I was looking for a dog when one of the Dog Liberator's "senior dog's", showed up on Pet Finder. I was hesitant at first, due to her age. But after some thought, she was what I wanted. After 2 weeks of discussing what we needed to do, the Dog Liberator had a vet perform, all the necessities of the adoption process. We hadn't met the dog yet...but picked her up after the vet appointment (on "knowing" it'll work out). The dog was groggy & Giselle (owner of Dog Liberator) made every attempt to make the transaction smooth. We noticed a hip limp but took her anyway. With time & exercise, KT's legs have filled out. The muscle atrophy was less noticeable.
As a massage therapist, I work on her regularly & take her to my office for accoustic wave treatments to help her hips. It's been almost a year & her legs have filled out nicely from regular exercise & short frisbee sessions in the yard. She's made several friend's on her morning walks. Her personality has really captured alot of hearts. She was very shy & withdrawn at first, but makes herself at home.
I'm not really sure who rescued who:) There's been alot of joy & love in the house since her arrival as she is a love bug...no more cages for her.
Since then, I've followed other rescues on Facebook & their e-mails. Giselle is a selfless individual who continues to strive to do "Whatever it takes"...Her family is also a helping role of responsibility. If I had to pick a top nonprofit...the Dog Liberator Inc. would be number one.

I began my journey as a facebook reader, intrigued by the tales of rescue, later I had rescued a dog off my neighborhood streets and Gisele provided me with some great training and behavioral tips and Cinder is now a wonderful member of my family. Eventually I began volunteering with transport and now am a foster. I am so happy to be a part of this group, not only do I get to help these wonderful animals but the experience is totally positive. I never feel out in the cold. I recently had a foster that I was concerned about and Gisele was on the phone with me and her vet for hours into the late hours of the night. He turned out to be just fine and I was so grateful that she was there to help.

I am very indebted to the dog liberator. I adopted a wheaten terrier from a local shelter, that became very ill, I contacted TDL in hopes that some much needed advice could be offered. I not only got advice, but I got a pot of Andi Brown Stew and much needed moral support...of how I might try save my dog., And a talk about how to deal with the fact he may not make it. Duncan did not make it...he was not showing any blood work results indicating this condition until it was too late, that he had Pancreatitrs caused by a neutering anesthesia the shelter used, it's a rare allergy that these dogs can have. I not only received assistance but gained a friend. I am totally confident that TDL cared about my dog even though I didn't get him from them. The sincere genuine compassion for the well being of dogs is remarkable and deserves recognition.

A few weeks ago we adopted our second dog from them. And when you adopt a dog from TDL, you don't just adopt, you become part of the TDL family. My new puppy is deaf and blind and Gisele constantly keeps in touch with to find out how he is doing and offering me advice. When you adopt a dog though TDL you get much more than a dog! I have noticed that they have lots of returning adopters and that is because the rescue is amazing! They don't take in more dogs than they can handle therefore they are able to find great homes and take great care of the dogs! So glad to have met Gisele and I am very thankful for the 2 family members we have adopted from her rescue!

In a place of healing sorrow I found The Dog Liberator. When one loses their friend of 15 years the step to adopt a new dog can be an exciting yet guarded time. Fate brought me to TDL site and ultimately an amazing new friend, in Flynn. Since then I feel as they have become family. I found out that they are more than just your average rescue. They are a group of people, from founder Gisele to their many fosters and volunteers, who truly care about each and every dog that becomes a TDL dog. And what lucky dogs they are. I know if Gisele had it her way, she would rescue every dog that's life was at risk, in our overly populated shelters....but this takes an effort from so many people. I haven't actually fostered, but TDL gives us the opportunity to Virtually foster, which can be just as important. Funds are always needed to save just 1 more dog. I give thanks to TDL every time I watch Flynn run or swim or just love life. He deserved to be noticed, rescued, fostered and adopted. Thank you Gisele!

Three years ago we were looking for a new dog after losing our beloved family pet. I found TDL on the internet and saw a photo of a fuzzy, big eared puppy that needed a home. I contacted TDL and was answered very quickly by Gisele, the owner and heart of TDL. We were very impressed with how well run the rescue was and how happy the dogs were. We adopted that fuzzy puppy who is now a fuzzy huge dog and a treasured family member.
After reading Gisele and TDL's newsletter for awhile, we decided to add another dog to our family. We contacted the organization again and we found, through Gisele's guidance, the newest member of our family. This adoption has gone just as smoothly. As we have learned more about the organization and the tireless work they do to rescue dogs from shelters or from owners who have come upon very difficult times, we are even more impressed. This is hard work and long hours coordinating rescues, transportation and nursing sick dogs to health. This is not for the faint of heart. It is full of sleepless nights, financial juggling and on occasion saying goodbye to a sick dog that does not make it despite doing absolutely everything right. Kudos to everyone at TDL for their commitment and heart.

Thank you for your wonderful review! We too wish we could do more to spay/neuter, but lack of funds and fosters prevents us from rescuing more than we can. We have, however, helped people in our community to find low cost spay/neuter clinics in their area, and we urge everyone who contacts us to spay and neuter. Personally, we feel that ALL veterinarians should offer affordable spay/neuter until the number of homeless pets is significantly reduced. It's appalling that some vets charge hundreds of dollars for the service. It has been one of our long term goals to have enough funding to offer free spay/neuter to those who can not afford it. Maybe one day! Thanks again, Gisele TDL

I stumbled across The Dog Liberator about 4 years ago after seeing a video on youtube. 5 Border Collies jumping in and out of a swimming pool, obviously having a blast! I believe it was one of TDL's foster homes and I followed the link to TDL's website.
Ever since then, I have been dreaming of becoming a 'Liberator', too!!! Although I live on the opposite end of the East Coast, I would not hesitate to foster for Gisele! I also wouldn't hesitate to recommend TDL to people looking to adopt! This trust isn't based on a naive notion but on the fact I have seen them save so many dogs and place them into great homes! Unlike some other Rescues TDL doesn't leave their fosters or adopters hanging when issues arise! When Gisele commits to a dog she is there for the duration!
Her knowledge and dedication is contagious and every time I see a dog in need going to TDL, I know s/he is gonna be alright!
What TDL needs is more fosters, more funds so they can save even more dogs! Go check them out and help them out!!! Hundreds of dogs have found the love and care they deserve, because they were LIBERATED!

When our 13 year old Aussie passed away, we knew we wanted another one. We looked at other rescues, but they had maybe 6 dogs available, and they had been in their care for a year or so. Stumbled on to the Dog Liberator on the internet, and found lots of dogs. I first reached out to Gisselle about a blind Aussie, but then felt not a good fit for our household. Somehow I hooked up with a Cynthia who had Dory. After several exchanges of emails and phone calls hearing details of Dory and her owner surrender, we scheduled a meet and greet. We drove down to meet Dory and passed the interview process and DORY picked me!
Hard to believe ANYONE would have surrendered this beautiful, loving, loyal and well-behaved dog. But their loss is our gain. Have referred anyone we meet, and will definitely return when and if we ever get another dog. The Dog LIberator is an outstanding and caring rescue group who treat their rescues like family. THANK YOU for all you do, and for our love, Dory.

I have personal, hands on experience in rescue, fostering, and adoption. When an aggression
issue developed with one of our own Border Collies, Chloe, I sought out assistance in placing her. Her aggression was only directed towards one of our other females, and I felt that she could definitely find
another home. I researched Border Collie rescue groups which is when I discovered The Dog
Liberator. I explained our situation to Gisele, and she "listened" to determine whether Chloe was
placeable at the age of 8.5 yrs. Even with my experience, I did not have the resources and
networking that Gisele has. She never criticized me for making the decision to rehome at
Chloe's age. We had tried to work the problem for 1.5 years with a trainer and 24/7 separation
of the two dogs. Chloe was adopted in June, and now lives in New Orleans with a gentleman
that has adopted 3 middle age Border Collies over the last 20 years. She is the only dog, and
I believe is probably the Queen Bee. Win Win situation for Chloe who was adopted as a
mature girl.
Thanks,

I adopted from The Dog Liberator 2 years ago (2011). I was easily able to view available dogs PLUS consult with Gisele Veilleux to ensure the best 'fit' as our family had a senior Border Collie female in the home. TDL does full disclosure of the dog's health status and origin. We felt confident going into our 'meet' session with the new dog who we found to be fostered in a wonderful environment. The TDL relationship does not end at the adoption, but continues, if desired, with open Q&A guidance on assimilating the new pet into the family.

We added again to our family after our senior BC passed and went directly to TDL. Gisele supported our efforts in finding a perfect fit again and even met us at the vet.

I enjoy spending time with this organization in volunteer when my schedule allows and count them as an extended part of our family. I recommend TDL to all my friends looking to adopt.

Their Facebook page is maintained with available adoptions and also with stories of their many successful adoption families. There is an informative newsletter and easy to navigate website.

To start, I can't say enough for Dogliberator Rescue. They are all about the well being of the animals they rescue and make sure they go to a caring home. There process is simple with the best interest of the animals always upfront.
They do not put you threw and ordeal for adoption. A lot of rescues put you thru and ordeal to doubt your self worth and ability to care for the animal of your choice. This is wrong and shouldn't be accepted as the norm.

Truly the dogliberator rescue is the ruler to which other rescues should be Measured. They also offer valuable information about caring for your animal rescued.

The entire team at TDL works tirelessly for these animals fostering them, taking them to vets, feeding them and most of all loving them. They all have dedicated their lives to the rescue and adoption of these beautiful animals.
While most of us sit back and wait for someone to do something about the problem, Gisele and her team jumped right in and did it. They do this without reservation and without pay. And there are always the unexpected costs of dealing with sick or injured animals.
We follow them on Facebook to see all the dogs they bring in and learn of their stories, and when they meet their new forever home families. It is always a joy to see these dogs go to loving homes. We saved the video of Nat King Cole and Brenda Lee (Now Boudreaux and Nana) so we can watch them before they were ours. It always makes me cry. They were the very best Christmas present ever!
TDL is an amazing organization and one that deserves every bit of support it can get.

If I could give this organization a hundred star rating that would not express the work they do for all the helpless, neglected animals they help each day.

The dedication, compassion, continuous drive they have to ensure every animal has a chance at a good life, a life they deserve, is unmatched by any other organization I have ever been in contact with.

They go over and above the call. This is their life. Every minute, every hour, every day, they dedicate their time and their energy to save these animals and match them with families who will love, appreciate, and in turn will reap the benefits themselves from what these animals will bring to their lives.

We adopted a puppy from them about 4 months ago and they keep in constant contact with us and are always concerned how things are going.

They are involved with every dog they have fostered for years after they have been adopted.

I often cry when I see these helpless animals but I am uplifted when I KNOW they will be saved, loved, and taken care of by this organization.

If everyone had the compassion, kindness, and overall love this organization had, this world would be such a better place.

My hat goes off to them and I will continue to support them in any way needed.

They are overworked, under appreciated, but that doesn't stop them.

They are heroes, expecting nothing in return! Please, please consider them for this grant. You will not be disappointed.

Thank you everyone at The Dog Liberator! You are truly angels.

Sincerely,

Debbie Ankiel
