I was discharged from the navy as Honorable/disabled in 1965, but for some unknown reason they rated my disability as a 0% I had suffered a brain injury. Due to the way they wrote up my discharge, I was denied all VA benefits. However, The Blinded Veterans took up my case a few years ago and today I am rated at 95% disabled an have full medical and disability funding! They took my case even though it was very complicated and has taken many claims and claim reviews.. in fact they are still working to get me at !00%<br>This is special because every other lawyer and group had refused to help me due to the complexity of my case. In addition, because of their efforts my spouse will be better cared for if I die. they are awesome.

What's my favorite gemstone? If I had to pick, I'd choose a GEM fellow - hard as a rock, opulent like the peridot, and regenerative like the moon stone. That's the caliber of talent the National GEM Consortium cultivates. As a direct beneficiary of their many programs, I can give only one piece of advice: If you get the chance to become a GEM fellow - take it! How GEM helped me: 1. Access: Gained hands-on research experience at a national lab. 2. Tools: Used NSF I-Corps customer discovery techniques through GEM I-4. 3. Launch: Access to a network of industry and academic leaders that helped me launch my tech startup! Reflecting on my experience as a 2018 GEM fellow, it's clear the National GEM Consortium was the ace up my sleeve. Working with Oak Ridge National Laboratory was just the beginning of my journey. Today, I'm deepening my engagement with the laboratory as a tech entrepreneur, and I highly doubt I would be here without GEM.

ZERO provides mentoring for newly diagnosed men, hosts 5k races that encourages fitness, provides info booths, and PSA testing. They have an Annual Summit in DC for PCa victims and caregivers with info sessions, a get together party, and a trip to get support for PCa funds and legislation on the Hill. I've raised $1000s for them via the 5ks and 4 NYC marathons that I completed. I won a Bold for Blue award for my PCa advocacy. Although I feel badly writing a negative review, I feel I simply must warn other donors about my experience. I was a recurring monthly donor to Running Strong, but needed to cancel my monthly gift due to family and financial difficulties. I initially contacted Running Strong with a heartfelt and apologetic email, embarrassed and saddened to have to discontinue my donation. I received no response, and they continued to charge my account. Over the course of five months, I emailed Running Strong five times, left two voicemails, and contacted them via social media twice. They continued to charge my credit card, never responding to my emails or voicemails. This is an unconscionable way to treat a donor, and I am now in the position of having to ask my bank to block Running Strong from charging my account. I have never been treated so callously by a nonprofit organization.

I love Carpenter's Shelter mission! I enjoy volunteering both as a front desk worker and for kids corner and hope to support future tutoring or Resume/job coaching.

The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Michigan Chapter, Inc. appreciates the work that the Community Health Charities provide. They assist non-profit organizations to connect with local companies and their employees to make a real difference in the communities. Our organization has benefited greatly from the donations provided, and we look forward to many more years of working with Community Health Charities.

I have not had any experience with this association but wanted to give to it to honor my dad who died due to Inclusion Body Myositis. He struggled for years with this disease that had left him in a hospital bed towards the end of his life. I took care of him for years and saw how this disease has progressed. I truly hope that my donation will help to do more research on it as it is heartbreaking to see a loved one suffer everyday. <br>I have faith in this Association and pray for cures.

Of One Accord is a ministry serving two poverty stricken Appalachian Counties. Americans Helping Americans has helped us raise our level of service several steps. Through your contributions to Americans Helping Americans you provide resources to serve Americans neediest families.<br><br>The primary program operating every day is 3 emergency food pantries serving all of both counties. AHA has provided many types of in-kind items including food distributed to some of our nation's neediest families.<br><br>Our organization host church groups that travel from around the country to serve in Appalachia. AHA has helped with building materials to insure families have safe, dry homes to live in.<br><br>Another program is a Christmas program, serving all our county. Children receive toys, but also shoes, winter coats, all of which greatly benefit families living on household incomes averaging $600 a month. <br><br>Americans Helping Americans is a "great friend" helping empower the ministries in Appalachia to meet their local needs.

Presently, I am an intern at CFNC and I am amazed with the level of dedication, commitment and service they are providing to at risk children and their families. As an aspiring social work professional, CFNC is contributing immensely in shaping my future through the experience and practical education they are giving me. My desire to become a social worker is rekindled by these group of selfless individuals who are changing lives daily. <br> <br>The staff are providing a lot of information to the parents about government programs that they can benefit from, but some of the parents don’t know about the availability of such programs. There are many programs out there for helping people who are less privilege and CFNC staff are providing those kinds of information to deserving people. <br> <br>On “why we do” section in its website, CFNC states that, “We are steadfast in our belief that the pathway out of poverty begins with early intervention, in 30 years we have learned that early childhood education programs have a greater impact on the education trajectory of children living in poverty when they include services that foster self-sufficient families”. I can vehemently vouch that CFNC is truly following every word in this statement and in all its mission and vision. <br>I would add that the staff are willing to answer all my questions even when they are ridiculous. They are so helpful. <br> <br> <br> <br> <br>

Playing with WMPA has been great experience. The musicians <br>In the orchestra range from amature to professional to services men and woman. Plus it has allot of multicultural diversity. Anyone can play in this orchestra. The organization listen to their audience and musicians for ways to draw bigger audience. I can say the audience is getting bigger every time. If you miss one concert you still have a chance to see it again the following week. WMPA is constantly challenging it's musicians to different levels of music and that keeps you busy. When we moved to Arlington, VA the first thing I wanted to do was visit the world famous Torpedo Factory. I immediately signed up for a printmaking class even before we found a home. I was looking for a job and one day, during class, I noticed a poster on the bathroom door advertising for a gallery director for The Art League. I had visited the gallery many times since arriving and poured over the catalog of classes planning my next class. Having worked as a gallery director in California I applied for the job. I took my resume in dressed in my printmaking clothes covered in ink. I didn't wait long until they asked me to come in for an interview. I began the best job of my life not long after that. The gallery has nearly 1,000 local artist participating in the monthly exhibits and 7,000 students in classes throughout the year. I took many classes. I can say without hesitation, that my classes and instructors were better than any professor or teacher I have had at UC Berkeley and beyond. I retired in 2018 but still support The Art League and believe in the mission with all my heart.

I have been volunteering with Volunteer Alexandria for ten years in different capacities. The one event that they host that I try to never miss is the annual Toy Drive. This event supports the underserved families in our city by collecting and distributing toys during the holidays. This event will support hundreds of families and their children this year as they have in past years. VolAlx recruits businesses, organizations and individuals to collect toys and then has volunteers gather the toys, sort them and present them to the families who shop for the toys for their families.

Volunteering at New Hope Housing has been incredibly rewarding. I help residents create a resume, apply for jobs, and practice interviewing techniques. The staff is friendly, and residents always appreciate the assistance. <br>New Hope Housing provides effective programs and services that are crucial to helping adults and families achieve independence and self-sufficiency. I am grateful for the opportunity to volunteer here and be a small part of this important and wonderful organization.

Corrupt, immoral, money laundering fake charity. Do NOT give your money here. They do NOT help people in need. This is a scam through and through that will waste your time and ghost. It's rotten from the very top (no response from CEO, etc.)

I have volunteered with this organization for years and have never known them to treat anyone with anything but respect and kindness. They always go out of their way for someone, whether they are in their service area or not.

My husband was critically injured during the attack on the Pentagon on 9/11. Through the generosity of our fellow Federal employees, our daughter was able to attend an Ivy League University without the financial burden upon our famiiy. The leadership at FEEA and the supporting administrative staff always ensured that all our needs were met - and they did it with genuine care and affection. <br>Thank your FEEA!

I was called by the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund by an individual calling for donations. You could tell she was reading from a prepared speech. It started with, "We thank you for offering a generous donation to the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund..." I stopped her there and said she was lying and hung up. I nor my husband agreed to that. They lie to fund raise. Enough said.

I have been connected with ANSA’s work for the past 7 years. <br>ANSA work is done by dedicated volunteers that have a passion to help women and children in Brazil. The goal is to help with equipment that will foster growth and develop skills Dedication and hard work help us achieve our annual goals.

I reported my suspicions to the organization many times over the years and have always been shocked at the responses and stupidity of the Missing and Exploited Children Network. Just recently I began receiving insulting and derogatory e-mails from an apparent unknown source. When I followed up the sender confessed she was an "employee" who had her professional (such as it was and is) e-mails forwarded to her home and personal e-mail addresses and then responded. As my tips and reports over many years have now been confirmed and vindicated as "worthy" (if not solving the cases), I believe it is in the best interest of the public to know how dubious this "charitable" organization is. <br> <br>Sincerely, <br>Ron May <br>

Even though I've been a HR Professional for over 30 years, I'd never attended a National SHRM Conference and Expo until June 2019. Having made a decision to work for a smaller, family owned company as a HR Department of One, I wanted to learn more about being an HRDOO, but couldn't afford to go, so I applied for a Scholarship with the SHRM Foundation and I was able to attend. My scholarship was newly endowed and I got to meet the person who made it possible at one of the event dinners. I was an experience I'll never forget and I was able to network with so many new people and learn better ways of working as a department of one. Scholarships are only a small part of the great work the SHRM Foundations does each year. I'm looking forward to the focus in 2020!

Concerned Women for America is on the front lines of family issues in our nation. I've volunteered for this organization for over 25 years and love what they stand for. They truly are an organization with high integrity.

As director of Virginia Forest Watch i first applied to ESC for financial assistance in 2003 to help us with board development and organization planning. ESC provided funds to pay a facilitator and assist in expenses for the meeting facility and meals. Since that time they have continued to assist us with similar events and in 2007 we were selected to participate in the FUNDS program. With their assistance over the years we have been about to continue to bring in funds sufficient to keep in operation. I am now the Director of The Clinch Coalition, a local grassroots forest activist organization in Southwest Virginia. ESC assisted us two years ago by providing funds to send staff and board members to a extensive training program in NC which continue for almost a year. it was primarily focused on board development and internal/non-foundation fund raising. This spring they provided us with a staff member who facilitated a board retreat for us and is continuing to work with us on board development and strategic planning. We have received great assistance from the ESC!!

This program is excellent! There is something her for everyone at every level. The online learning model is comprehensive and there are wide variety of classes offered to assist in getting the jobs skills needed for today's market. Not only do they offer technical skills but also life skills. I find this organization to provide comprehensive services at an extremely low price.
