Review for Bicycle Coalition Of Maine, Portland, ME, USA
Bike Maine used to have some good fund raising tours. The long weekends of the Maine Bike Rally have been gone for years. Co-hosted by bike clubs in Maine these rallies offered twenty routes each day. These rides got me going to Maine to ride. More recently the week long tours were diluted into long weekends and now even these are history. I thought getting out of staters to come to Maine for a tour that generated funds for local bikeped activities was a great strategy. Now I visit Maine just for a day for the Lighthouse Ride.
Review for Bicycle Coalition Of Maine, Portland, ME, USA
BCM stopped supporting the Maine Bike Rally weekend which brought cyclists from all over Maine together. Much of the work was done by one of three large bicycle clubs in ME making BCM a beneficiary with reduced expenses. The week long Bike Maine does not meet the need cyclists had for a long weekend experience. BCM needs to be more inclusive in its programs for cycling in Maine.
In the eight years since this event was mutually retired by all groups involved, the BCM has introduced numerous new events, with some more on the way in 2021! Events are just a small portion of what the BCM does, as the non-profits primary mission is to make Maine better and safer for pedestrians and people on bikes.
Review for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Washington, DC, USA
Only about 40% of the contributions go to helping those with leukemia of lymphoma or for research. Salaries and other expenses are too high.
Review for Greater Yellowstone Coalition, Bozeman, MT, USA
About 50% of the revenues go towards wages & salaries. Too much of the revenues goes towards keeping the coalition in existence instead of promoting and preserving Yellowstone. The bicycle tour is outstanding but the revenues.
Review for JDRF, New York, NY, USA
Less than 50% of contributions go to research. Salaries are equivalent to grants for research. Too much overhead here.
Review for Pan-Massachusetts Challenge Inc, Needham, MA, USA
95% of the funds raised go for research. The only reason I did not rate this 5 stars was the size of salaries and benefits for just a few individuals.
Review for Climate Ride Inc, Missoula, MT, USA
After rider expenses Climate Ride directs most of its revenues to climate programs.
Review for Emmaus Inc, Haverhill, MA, USA
Unfortunately over half the revenues goes into salaries etc for the staff and management. Most of the revenues should help the homeless.
Review for Foodshare, Bloomfield, CT, USA
Foodshare does an excellent job getting food to the needy. Salaries, wages, and other expenses are well under 20% of donations.
Review for Hartford Food System, Inc, Hartford, CT, USA
Half of the donations paid the staff and management of HFS; 20% paid non-employees for services. Not much left for the hungry.
Review for American Friends of ALYN Hospital, Inc., New York, NY, USA
The exec dir receives $300,000 in pay. Far too much for a charity that generates just $4 million.
Thank you for this feedback. I am happy to share that the Executive Director mentioned above retired in December 2018 and was replaced with a new ED who is focused on customer service, governance, policies, best practices and adhering to the mission of supporting ALYN Hospital.

Review for Farmington Valley Trails Council, Burlington, CT, USA
Officers and board members donate their time . . . there are no salaries. Expenses are modest. Surpluses from events and dues support the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail and the Farmington River Trail
Review for Connecticut Challenge Inc., Southport, CT, USA
Only $100,000 of the $2,000,000 raised gets to the charities per the 990. The rider fee is definitely more than the rider cost, so all donations should go to the charities. The ability of the CT Challenge to get donations to cancer survivors is worse that Pallotta Teamworks.
