Mission: Through fundraising, volunteerism, advocacy and character-building, united way brings the community together to leverage the resources needed to take action on human care needs and improve the quality of life for martin county residents.
Programs: Grants & allocations - united way invests funds in programs addressing health and human service needs identified through a strategic planning process. The board of directors determines annual funding priorities and the amount of unrestricted funds available for distribution. All martin county 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible to submit grant requests for funding consideration. For the reporting year, applications were reviewed by a diverse group of 62 local volunteers donating 655 hours of their time to the citizen review process. The volunteers evaluated the grant requests and recommended funding based on how the programs met the specific outcome objectives and operated in a cost effective manner. The board of directors approved recommended funding to 55 programs.
martin volunteers - the volunteer center is a full service volunteer center that engages individuals,families, businesses, social service groups and communities in volunteer efforts that help to strengthen martin county and the nonprofit agencies. Several projects are operated through the center including the white doves holiday project, the volunteer reception center, and the executive service corps. Martin volunteers offers the florida volunteer resource managers certificate program and coordinates dovia (director of volunteers in agencies) for martin county. Other efforts include the organization of service projects on national service days at the request of local employers and service organizations.
retired & senior volunteer program - rsvp is a federally funded program with the purpose of applying the skills and expertise of persons 55 and better in volunteer service that has a demonstrable impact in the community and meets the goals and objectives of the corporation for national and community service. Volunteers are invited to be a member of rsvp if they perform their service at an agency that is part of the three year grant workplan addressing issues pertaining to disaster, service to veterans and military families, education and healthy futures.
