I have been watching Tools of Learning For Children for some many years now . . . and have come to the conclusion that it is one of THE most valuable and effective operations I know of in the field of producing needed literacy in our society . . . and of course achieving that requires we begin with our children as soon as they are ready. Murray Bass and his team are exemplars of success in this.
I recently had the pleasure of hosting him in New York while he met Brenda Moore the founder of K.E.E.P. in Liberia. The occasion was for Murray and Brenda to meet and plan logistics for Tools of Learning for Children to assist KEEP in achieving his goals on a more world wide basis.
Tools of Learning for Children is one charity that truly delivers on the promise of its stated purpose. Its founder, Murray Bass, is an exemplar of doing the right thing.

Murray Bass's organization is dedicated to helping put educational tools into the hands of students and teachers in the most need. His desire to make education more accessible to all children is the basis for the work they do.
Not only does Tools support education here in the United States but they are also helping to bring much needed educational supplies to children around the world.
They are very prompt at responding to emails.

I initially became acquainted with Tools of Learning for Children in early 2000. I work for a large technology company that is very focused and involved in contributing to the development of our future workforce. Learning to read, write, compute and speak well are fundamental skills that all of our kids need to develop at the earliest stage in life - years 0 to 5. Tools of Learning for Children has an exceptional program that focuses on the fundamentals by using tools that are effective for teaching our youth. My company has consistently supported this organization throughout the past 15+ years because of their commitment and success throughout our education community.

I am a former Board member. "Tools" as we affectionately call it, continues to work tirelessly to promote literacy in our young children to help them succeed in like. Most recently we expanded our scope to assist children from Liberia who have little to no access to educational materials due to the prolonged civil war there. We partnered with business to provide the most remote areas with basic learning tools and continue to build on this effort. At home we are committed to assisting pre schools by supplying a reading dynamics curriculum at a nominal cost. This is all accomplished by a small, all volunteer Group made up of teachers, business people and other professionals who give tirelessly because of their passion for children and their success in school.

Tools of Learning has certainly made a big difference in our family. I gave all my grand nieces and nephews (6 in all) their learning packets when they were under two. All learned to read before they reached the age of four. And what a difference it made in their preschool and elementary school. They are all ahead of the other children in their classes. This added to their self confidence in school and made them better learners. Can't thank this program enough.

I connected with Murray Bass and the Tools of Learning family in 2015 through this website and since we connected, they have been very supportive towards the work we are doing here in Liberia, West Africa. Tools coordinated the shipment of over 14,000 composition notebooks, pencils, sharpeners, erasers and crayons.
these much needed school supplies have greatly helped us provide support to hundreds of school children in rural Liberia who do not always have access to such basic school supplies to facilitate their learning experience and outcomes.
Murray while aged, is a gem and responds to emails, checks on potential other collaborators and such and has been totally amazing. So has Margaret Miller.
I rate them a 5 out of 5 for their support to humanity, for turning their words into tangible deeds.

Tools does more than enable children to learn to read. A companion program provides pocket-size booklets containing the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence to high schools in two counties. Students use them as reference in class and when doing their homework. Each student gets a personal copy; so can make notes right there. Teachers say these booklets are a welcome supplement to textbooks, which in many cases cannot be taken home. This is another way Tools is helping to build the citizen-leaders of tomorrow.

I coordinate the Citizenship program that offers pocket-size booklets containing the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence to local schools. They are intended for the 8th and 11th grades, where US History and Government are taught. We have done this for 15 years. This past year, we delivered more than 1,000 copies each to our Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District and neighboring Napa Unified School District.

Feedback from teachers has been totally positive. Students make notes in the booklets and use them for reference at home. We believe this project helps build appreciation for the documents that created our great nation.

I am President and co-founder of Tools of Learning for Children. Our original mission was to help young children find success in life as adults by helping them Learn to read. We supply the Frontline Phonics reading system to preschools and early learning centers . More than 25,000 children have been helped since inception.
But I am equally as proud of the fact that "Tools" has a very active citizenship program which supplies pocket constitutions and declarations of Independence to 5000 students in 3 California counties each year.
We have become International. This year, the Kids Educational Engagement Project of Liberia (K.E.E.EP) asked us to help them get educational materials for children who did not have access to schools. My reaction was "God wants us to do this." We did. We were able to have 6 tons of materials donated through the Feed the Children Network. I am proud to be a part of Tools of Learning for Children. Tools of Learning for Children has two programs. A citizenship program which distributes pocket constitutons to eigth graders in three counties. Teachers tell us that the students use them for reference during the year. And understand our government better after seeing the DVD of "A more perfect Union.' We reach about 10,000 kids each year. Feedback from teachers and some students has been wonderful.
Our Frontline Phonics Reading program has in the last two years been used to teach Hispanic children and their paents how to read English at ther Adult school. An unexpected bonus. It is a rewarding expereience to hear the young Hispanic children reading .
This year,Increase the number of boardmembers for the first time, we will be using our reading program in an Aftican-American church setting. Reaching the children who most need help in breaking the cycle of low information dependence. It is a joy to be associated with Tools of Learning for Children

I've had so many 2.5 year olds blending and learning to read. My kids that graduate at the age of 5 are reading at a 1st & 2nd grade level. The program has prepared them in ways I couldn't have done with out the help of Frontline and Tools for Learning. Shepherd of the Hills Preschool and Kindergarten has been using Tools of Learning since it began. Our children and parents love the program. It has so many positive components to it. Our 4/5 year olds listen to the phonics CD that is provided daily and a copy of the CD also goes home with each child when we start the program in September. The letter of the week card goes home at the beginning of each week so the parents can be involved in what their child is learning and reinforce what is being taught at school. At the end of each week the children work in the workbook that is provided and the children will have the opportunity to practice writing the letter of the week and well as pick out items with the sound that has been taught. The program is well rounded and focuses on the sound of the letter, letter recognition and the writing of the letter. Our children are more than prepared for kindergarten and it is all because of the Tools of Learning Program. We love it and we hope to continue with it for years to come.

My name is Leah Miller. My two children, Mackenna and Mason, have been attending Little Busy Bees Daycare/Preschool in West Sacramento since they were just a few months old. I am writing today because, for quite some time, I have wanted to personally say "thank you" to Mr. Bass and the Tools of Learning for Children Foundation, and the Foundation's donors. Because of the foundation’s generosity providing the Frontline Phonics program for Little Busy Bees Preschool, my daughter Mackenna, who first started the phonics program at 2 1/2 years old by the age of 4 was reading at a second grade level. Mackenna absolutely loves letters – the sounds they make, writing them, and especially reading them!
My husband Ryan and I have read daily to both of our children since they were infants. However, we believe that a big part of Mackenna's success and love for reading is due in part to other contributing influences, including the Frontline Phonics program granted by the Tools of Learning for Children Foundation to Little Busy Bees. This program has provided the preschool with a wonderful curriculum that is fun and engaging for the kids to learn to read (and for the teachers and parents to teach it). Because of the tools provided by your foundation and through the instruction Mackenna received at preschool and at home, she has found confidence and joy in being able to read all on her own. Her ability to read at such a young age has opened her eyes to a new and exciting perspective of the world around her, which has fed her thirst for learning all sorts of new things. At age 4 not only could she read at a second grade level, but she knew how to write the entire alphabet, along with many, many words. Today at 4 1/2 years old and in Transitional Kindergarten, she can read just about anything we put in front of her. Again, thank you Mr. Bass and Tools of Learning for providing the Frontline Phonics program to Little Busy Bees Preschool. Know that the passion behind the Tools of Learning for Children mission has helped to build a foundation of lifelong learning for our children.

I am the Director of Circle of Friends Child Development in Fairfield. We were first introduced to Frontline Phonics program in 2011. The program has been a great part of our curriculum and a great learning tool for our children. We introduce the phonics program at the beginning of our school year in September and by December many of the children know all of their letters and letter sounds. By the end of our program year many of the Pre-kindergarten children and some Preschool children are blending letters and some reading. I am very happy with this program and highly recommend it to any school that values reading in their program.

As a seasoned Board member I am continually proud of the accomplishments of our organization. Through our Citizenship program which provides pocket constitutions to High school students we promote learning to assure as these children grow they are knowledgeable about our government and how it works and what the tenants of this Country. Feedback we receive indicates that the constitution copies enhance the students learning experience and serve as a ready reference for years to come.

Our Front Line Phonics program, distributed to pre-schools public and private, is giving children the necessary tools to be successful in reading as they enter elementary school. Parental and teacher feedback assures us that this program is doing its job. We plan to expand our reach of schools served and introduce a companion math program this year.

My grand niece is severely handicapped and confined to a wheelchair. Using Frontline phonic, she is now reading at age 4 and spends many happy hours with her books and puzzles.

I have similarly provided the materials available through Tools of Learning to other grand nieces and nephews.. The result: they go to Kindergarten knowing their numbers and how t read. I cannot tell you how much this makes them enjoy school from day one. Being successful in reading makes them want to succeed more. I cannot think of a better way to ensure a child's future than learning how to read as early as possible.

Frontline Phonics:
The phonics program is very engaging to the children and the music gets them moving. The songs are easily memorized making the kids engage very soon after hearing them.
The flashcards used with the song make the visual recall association.
The individual letter songs are very catchy also, and the repetition of the sound commits it to their memory. It makes it so that the sound stays with them and at the review weeks they can remember it.

Math program:
We’ve put up a number line, with the odd numbers in RED and the EVEN in blue. Every day in our circle time we count and point from 1 – 20.
We do a calendar, where the kids see the numbers every day. In the calendar time, we have a pattern for each number. We start with a 2 sequence pattern and build throughout the year.
We point out at any and all opportunity numbers in our life. Our phone number, address and age.

These little children have learned to read through the Tools of Learning for Children program. It is a program like no other, encouraging learning through music, song and fun activities which involve the brain and the body. It is truly amazing to see. The goal is to get the program into every preschool in California, especially the underprivileged and at risk schools. It is through early education that we can change our children's futures and Tolls of Learning does just that.

The Frontline Phonics program used by Tools of Learning for Children is wonderful! Our nine-year old grandson was below grade level in reading due to illness, despite extra help at school; he was basically a non-reader. During the three weeks he visited us this summer, I followed the program with him and was amazed at how soon he was blending and reading. It encourages parents to make up their own games, songs and make artwork. Several testimonials speak volumes about their effectiveness: preschool children - 102 know all of their phonics sounds, 92 can easily blend consonants and vowels, 87 can read one vowel words and 66 can read two vowel words.

Tools' phonics program is the heart of our efforts. Learning to read is the essential foundation for a child's academic success. To that end we provide to area 8th and 11th Graders -- where US Government is covered -- pocket-size pamphlets containing the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence.
