Review for St. Joseph's Indian School, Chamberlain, SD, USA
The US government has never treated our Indian brothers honestly. From herding them onto reservations, to skimming funds, to withholding opportunities enjoyed by other Americans.
One of the great efforts to help Indian youth are the schools operated by Catholic organizations. Nearly every reservation has one. Many provide rom and board for their students. These schools give children the start so important to breaking the cycle of poverty and despair so prevalent on reservations.
My wife and I send a little help regularly to St Joseph's and other schools serving the Plains Indians. I wish that more people would understand the need and pitch in, too.
God bless all who labor in those fields.

Tools does more than enable children to learn to read. A companion program provides pocket-size booklets containing the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence to high schools in two counties. Students use them as reference in class and when doing their homework. Each student gets a personal copy; so can make notes right there. Teachers say these booklets are a welcome supplement to textbooks, which in many cases cannot be taken home. This is another way Tools is helping to build the citizen-leaders of tomorrow.

I coordinate the Citizenship program that offers pocket-size booklets containing the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence to local schools. They are intended for the 8th and 11th grades, where US History and Government are taught. We have done this for 15 years. This past year, we delivered more than 1,000 copies each to our Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District and neighboring Napa Unified School District.
Feedback from teachers has been totally positive. Students make notes in the booklets and use them for reference at home. We believe this project helps build appreciation for the documents that created our great nation.
