Review for Tools of Learning For Children, Sujjisujn, CA, USA
I have been watching Tools of Learning For Children for some many years now . . . and have come to the conclusion that it is one of THE most valuable and effective operations I know of in the field of producing needed literacy in our society . . . and of course achieving that requires we begin with our children as soon as they are ready. Murray Bass and his team are exemplars of success in this.
I recently had the pleasure of hosting him in New York while he met Brenda Moore the founder of K.E.E.P. in Liberia. The occasion was for Murray and Brenda to meet and plan logistics for Tools of Learning for Children to assist KEEP in achieving his goals on a more world wide basis.
Tools of Learning for Children is one charity that truly delivers on the promise of its stated purpose. Its founder, Murray Bass, is an exemplar of doing the right thing.

I came to know of this organization when I was introduced to them as an important organization to interview on my radio show: The Learning Curve Radio Show with Roger & Virginia.
Tools for Learning for Children turned out to be such an important and valuable performer in its field, we interviewed the founder, Murray Bass, four time to get the important message across. Here are the interview links: http://thelearningcurveradioshow.com/?s=murray+bass&submit=Search
Literacy for our children and our society is a passion of mine and my partner, having published our research findings in the book: How to Learn–How to Teach: Overcoming the Seven Barriers to Comprehension
Murray Bass and his organization deliver on their promise wonderfully and I am an avid supporter of what they are doing.

Review for Tools of Learning For Children, Sujjisujn, CA, USA
I am co-host of The Learning Curve Radio Show and very active as a professional in the area of educational results improvement. Basically, the current results of the American educational system are appalling (only 31% of college graduates scored at the US Dept. of Education “proficient level” in reading comprehension in the 2003 Adult Literacy Survey. And note, the 2003 result showed a decline from the 1992 score of 40%.) Part of my work is finding remedies for this catastrophic situation.
I have found one organization that stands out as a remarkable success in countering this dangerous decline in national literacy levels; and it stands out as THE success story in facilitating and delivering to kids, in their earliest stages of learning, the success we all hope and want for our children in their educational endeavor.
That organization is TOOLS OF LEARNING FOR CHILDREN
Factually, the damage that brings about the appalling level of school failures we see across the nation begins in pre-school. This is where the damage is done that lays in the foundation for later failures in school.
TOOLS OF LEARNING FOR CHILDREN is achieving literacy and success in learning with pre-schoolers. It sets the kids up in the best possible manner for winning in life and for being productive citizens in our society.

As part of the set up for the radio show with Murray Bass (above) I investigated his credentials and work. It is stellar. Apart from the wonderful results obtained by TOOLS OF LEARNING FOR CHILDREN, perhaps the most valuable factor is the beloved nature of its founder, Murray Bass.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Raise more money for it to hire staff and take it national.

What is unique about this organization?
It correctly recognizes that the bad grades we are seeing in the American educational system begin and are laid in at the pre-school level. TOOLS OF LEARNING FOR CHILDREN addresses getting kids off to a good and proper start as successful life-long learners and productive citizens. This unique aspect of TOOLS OF LEARNING FOR CHILDREN is what makes it so very valuable.

I reviewed Tools of Learning for Children as part of interviewing its founder, Murray Bass on my radio show, The Learning Curve with Roger & Virginia. I found the program and its results to be the best I've seen. I'd like to see this program taken nationwide . . . but of course, like most non-profits the $$$' are short. The program is for preschool and kindergarten and it has close to 100% of its kids comfortably reading when they graduate.

I wrote this about Tools for Learning For Children for our radio show website: How Young Can You Start Your Child on the Path to Successful Learning and Literacy? Today’s guest with Roger & Virginia on The Learning Curve is Murray Bass, the founder and president of Tools of Learning for Children. Murray is an 83 year-old retiree who has some children enjoying reading books as early as 3 years-old! His “wards” are routinely doing it at age 4! What a remarkable story this is. The Mission Statem

Review for Literacy Partners, Inc., New York, NY, USA
Literacy Partners does great work rescuing students who failed in the conventional educational system. I had the rewarding experience of interviewing one such client of Literacy Partners who had been tutored by Virginia Koenig, the author of “How to Learn-How to Teach: Overcoming the Seven Barriers to Comprehension.” It was fascinating to hear how Ms. Koenig applied the principles discussed in her book, along with those of the Montessori method of which she is a practitioner, to rescue the student and recover and empower his ability to learn. Basically, the underlying principle is that we all have the ability to learn — but the big issue is: what gets in its way? Ms. Koenig applied the answers to this question with her student to recover him. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm for learning he now possesses along with the confidence he has in his abilities as a successful student.

I have not been a client of Literacy Partners, but have seen the results of its work with quite a number of its clients, and the results a stellar . . . they are saving lives from ruin.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Their dedication to helping folks.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
wonderfully dedicated.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
reach more people and render more help . . . . but more importantly, it would be able to benefit our society so much more.
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
