My wife Carmen and I have been fortunate to observe two of Tia’s graduations. There were three things that stood out to us beyond a multitude of positives. The first was the excitement of the graduating promotoras (mostly women) who were now able to have a significant positive impact on their community. Incidentally, they were being empowered for the first time in their lives.
Second, the excitement of the community that medical care was brought to so many for the first time. This was evidenced by the glowing speeches of the officials and, perhaps more clearly by the police. The policemen personally purchased and prepared the food for the post graduation celebration.
Third is our realization that over 100,000 people have had their standard of living raised by Tia. They now practice better hygiene, better nutrition and better preventive health care. That is above and beyond the emergency care that the promotoras provide.
Tia is an organization that actually gets things done.

I was very impressed with the work and service Tia provides to the people in the communities it serves. The health Promotoras learn valuable medical/emergency knowledge and skills to help their families, neighbors, and community members. At their graduation ceremony, each Promotor stood to give their thank you speech, each radiating in a new confidence. That to me, was most touching.
