TheatreWorks Silicon Valley is a Tony award winning regional theater. It was started in 1970 by Robert Kelley, right out of Stanford. He created amazing art for the stage for 50 years! Giovanna Sardelli is the current Artistic Director. Her forte is finding and producing New Works. Some of the productions are as good as you would see on Broadway. Please consider donating. As you may know, Covid hit all theaters across the States very hard. It has been difficult to recover. Government gives very little to the Arts. Surprisingly, many of the wealthy people in Silicon Valley don't give to the Arts either! Help TheatreWorks continue their mission, Tonight, we will be seeing "King James" by Rajiv Joseph. I know it will be fabulous. I can't wait!
We just attended the opening for Clementine and the Lower 9. We liked it very much. The set is one of the best we've seen. The actress who plays Clementine is excellent. It's a good, poignant story about real life. The intertwining of the blues (live music on stage) is especially moving. TheatreWorks always has great productions. You don't have to go to SF to see good theater. It's right near home in Palo Alto and Mt. View.

This professional theatre company, with a history of 40 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, has a terrific season of 8 mainstage plays, plus a very active New Works program. Every mainstage production is beautifully produced, with professional talent and wonderful sets and costumes. The New Works Festival includes staged readings of 4-6 plays and musicals. The audience watches, and then has a chance to send comments and criticism to the playwrights directly, to help them improve the piece. It's an engaging and entertaining process. Often plays from the New Works Festival end up on the mainstage in future seasons. The current Tony-award-winning hit, "Memphis", was developed at TheatreWorks in this very sequence.
