Causes: Biological & Life Sciences
Mission: The mission of the virginia bioscience foundation is to encourage and support young virginians to explore and undertake studies and careers in innovative fields such as the life sciences.
Programs: The foundation has continued to solicit summer internship award applicants, and has approved 4 awards (to three companies) each in the amount of $1,000 to support bioscience interns this summer. Half of the award is paid at the beginning of the internship, and half is at its conclusion upon receipt of a written report.
the foundation was involved in our continued support of the virginia state science and engineering fair by providing a special award and cash scholarship for three biotechnology related projects.
for the 7th year virginia bio served as a state/local partner for international biogeneius challenge. The finalist of the virginia biogeneius challenge was one of 14 students from across the united states, canada and australia to compete in the international biogeneius challenge held in june 2017.
the foundation launched planning for the virginia life science workforce initiative, for full programmatic role out in 2018.
