Mission: The schuylkill center for environmental education inspires meaningful connections between people and nature. We use our forests and fields as a living laboratory to foster appreciation, deepen understanding, and encourage stewardship of the environment.
Programs: Environmental education - the center offers a diverse array of programs for preschools, schools, and universities, as well as the general public. Signature programs include nature phl, field trips for students in pre-k through 12 schools, summer camps and day off camps, large weekend festivals, a year-round nature-based preschool, kindergarten, and after school program, and a variety of workshops and education programs for the public.
land and facilities, including land restoration - we work to restore the forests and meadows of our 340-acre property, especially in penn's native acres, a 15-acre native plant preserve. Volunteers and special events bring the community into our restoration programming, removing invasive species, and addressing storm water concerns, while replanting the native species that provide a greater benefit to the ecosystem.
wildlife clinic - the wildlife clinic, staffed by state and federally licensed rehabilitators, cares for some 4,000 injured, sick, and orphaned animals annually, all brought by the community to our facility, and strives to release them back into their natural habitat. Medical treatment and temporary refuge are provided for native birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians in need.
environmental art and other - the environmental art department incites curiosity and sparks awareness of the natural environment through art. The department works collaboratively to create indoor and outdoor exhibitions that attract, educate, and inspire the public.
