Mission: The academies' function is to support career educational programs in the city of philadelphia's comprehensive public high school; to develop employment opportunities for students currently enrolled in the academies and for graduates of the academies; and to solicit and expend funds to develop additional educational programs for the academies. The mission of the philadelphia academies,inc. Is to expand life and economic options for philadelphia public school students through career-focused programming that prepares young people for employment and post-secondary education. We bridge relationships between schools, the philadelphia school district and the regional business community to provide curriculum supports and internships that connect academic material to real-world and career-base experiences. We work with individual teachers at our 13 partner high schools who provide on-site coordination of the career academy model. We have ten career areas that provide the laboratory for students
Programs: Academies offer each student more personalized attention, recognition, and care from teachers, staff and peers. Integral to the academy methodology is the career-themed approach designed to engage all students with learning that is rigorous and relevant preparing them for college and career. Each academy is a small learning community built around a college-career pathway.
digital on-ramps (dor) is a comprehensive online platform designed to prepare students for post-secondary education and career success. Through dor, students explore college and career options, receive feedback from business partners in project-based learning, develop 21st century skills, and progress toward their post-secondary goals. The result of a student's work in dor is a variety of digital badges and a personalized e-portfolio, which allow students to share their skills and work with peers, teachers, employers, and the broader community.
philadelphia academies received funding through philadelphia youth network for a cohort of students to participate in the financial leaders of tomorrow (flt) industry pipeline program. The program will funds students at lincoln high school, focusing on the web design, carpentry, and business academy students. The flt program has partnered with the university of pennsylvania, community financial literacy project and teach to provide students with robust year round experiences that pertain to college and career readiness. The students attend weekly after school classes at the wharton school of business that will enhance the students' post-secondary readiness and financial literacy skills. The teach program will provide in school programming to support the students' transition from high school to a college campus in the fall. In addition to our two partners, the students receive direct services from the internship and pipeline coordinator who helps students with a variety of high school and post-secondary needs. The coordinator will schedule college tours, industry tours, and prepare students for summer internships in the financial sector.
