Mission: The institute for educational advancement (iea) is dedicated to helping our nation's most talented young people in developing their fullest potential by focusing on creating programs and providing leadership for educational practices and policies that are student-centered and which promote academic rigor, excellence in the arts, high standards and educational innovations.
Programs: The caroline d. Bradley (cdb) scholarship is a highly selective scholarship opportunity that identifies exceptionally gifted middle school students and rewards them with a four-year scholarship to a high school that best fits their intellectual and personal needs. In addition, iea offers personalized guidance during the school search process. Iea named thirty new caroline d. Bradley scholars, who will receive four-year, full-tuition scholarships to the high schools that best fit their personal and academic needs. In 2014, there was a total of 54 scholarships awarded to students.
the apprenticeship program is a nationally-offered three-to-four week residential program that provides exceptionally capable high school students with focused, hands-on study and interaction with preeminent scientists, mathematicians and artists. Qualified participants travel to the mentor's place of work or study to participate in collaborative projects. Students reside on local college and university campuses, an experience that provides them with a valuable opportunity to live independently and develop relationships with intellectual peers with shared interests. Iea hosted 29 apprentices in los angeles in 2014.
yunasa institute for the gifted provides exceptionally capable middle school students with a week-long residential summer experience. The program is designed to serve highly gifted youngsters ages 10 to 14 who are engaged in a middle school curriculum. Yunasa teaches participants to balance their intellectual gifts with their emotional, social, spiritual and physical development through self reflection and personal application. Yunasa also offers an emerging leader program for returning campers ages 15 and 16 and a counselor-in-training experience for its 16 and 17 year old veterans. This year, iea served 67 gifted youth ages 10-17 at yunasa in michigan and 39 gifted youth ages 10-17 at yunasa west in colorado.
academy program: academy is a year-round educational enrichment program that serves approximately 100 elementary and middle school students annually. Academy offers high-level math and science courses that challenge gifted students beyond their grade level. Gifted resource center: this resource provides a customized starting point for students, parents and educators seeking educational opportunities for gifted and talented students.
