Mission: The mission is to accelerate students mastery of core academic subjects and to close the achievment gap. The george b. Thomas, sr. Learning academy, inc. Has been in in operation since 1986 and has enhanced the academic achievment of 1,000s of children in montgomery county, md.
Programs: Through its signature program, saturday school, the learning academy provides students in k-12 with a sixth day of instruction, personalized tutoring and acceleration in reading, language arts, math and test-taking skills with certified teachers and trained volunteers. The learning academys curriculum is specifically aligned with montgomery county curriculum and state standards. All programs are offered on saturday mornings between 8:30 and 11:00 am. The current cadre of offerings include; stem curiosity academy, aces, sat/act prep, young scholars program (ysp), saturday school parent training workshops, adult literacy program, aristotle peer tutors, support in advanced placement (ap) biology, java programming with robotics applications, coding and the high achievement scholarship program.

Each year gbtlas project change recruits americcorps members who work with local non-profit organizations and government agencies to further the mission of the americorps program.
