Mission: The arc of york county is committed to ensuring that all individuals with intellectual and other disabilities have the opportunity to choose where and how they learn, live, work and play.
Programs: Community resource network - arc advocates help individuals with mental retardation and their families by working hard to protect their rights and to ensure that they obtain the services they need to become fully participating citizens. Advocates support parents in securing special education services, and help them understand and navigate through other service systems. They also assist individuals in finding housing, provide information and referral services, speak to community groups, and develop educational programs concerning the prevention of mental retardation.
penn employment services -by matching highly motivated and qualified individuals to jobs that fit their interests and abilities, the arc's penn employment program offers people with disabilities the means to learn specific job skills and to find satisfying employment. Penn employment also partners with school districts to provide community exploration and part-time employment to high school students in order to prepare them for life after high school. This program currently serves approximately 120 people.
support services - state program that purchases various pieces of equipment or software, or makes home/van improvements that help people with any kind of disability live a more normal life. The york county department of human services makes the purchase, sends the bill to the arc, and the arc pays the vendor after the arc has been reimbursed by the state.
