The Gold Star Garden is on par with many national veteran’s memorials and is located in York, PA. Dedicated to those that gave the ultimate sacrifice in the War on Terror to today. It is a must see for anyone traveling to south central Pennsylvania.

I have worked as Justice Advocate in this non-profit organization since 2017. The human warmth of both the lawyers and the rest of the team is unbelievable. They walk the extra mile for their clients despite the limited resources and the many challenges we are facing with the immigration system. This organization has outstanding legal knowledge, vast experience in Immigration Law and other areas, and a great heart to help anyone who requires their services. As a Justice Advocate, they have helped me in my personal and professional growth with their mentoring, guideline and example. I recommend PIRC without hesitation for legal representation, internships, voluntary experiences and as a workplace.

About a year ago, we met a woman in Ethiopia named Eyerusalem. She is a single mother of two year old twin boys, one of whom is physically handicapped. They are homeless, with just a tiny tin shack that barely protects them from the elements. Right outside the door to their shack is a place where people throw trash, so they constantly live with the reality of that rotting smell. The only source of income she has is begging, which she does every day. She is often unable to eat or feed her two boys properly.<br /><br />It wasn't always like this for her. She had been a cook in a nice hotel and things were going well. She was dating a guy who also worked in that hotel. But then she got pregnant. He denied that they were his and abandoned her. The hotel also fired her because they didn't want a pregnant woman working there. That was when her life turned from one full of promise to one that is entirely hopeless.<br /><br />My wife and I work with a non-profit in Ethiopia called Fields of Hope that opened a school for children just like Eyerusalem's. We were able to register both of her children this year! We are also working with the local government to secure a safer home for her and her boys.<br /><br />I am truly humbled by this woman. She has lived in some of the worst conditions imaginable and yet she stayed strong. I am so glad that I have been able to give my time and money to Fields of Hope in order to bring hope to Eyerusalem and others like her. This garden is designed as a living tribute to those who bravely fought and died in the war on terror and those who are still in the military continuing the noble cause. The garden is both tranquil and respectful in it's effort to promote healing for those left behind and extends distinction and veneration for those who gave all they could give in service to their country. It is tastefully and artistically designed, well maintained and offers solace to anyone who enters it's perimeters.

I am not sure how I heard about this blessing but I am very thankful. I called and spoke with one of the sweetest, kindest ladies you could ever hope to interact with. She told me about her dear daughter and her mission to honor her. She followed up with me unail she received the information she needed then ordered a wig for me. Our insurance does not cover a wig and due to all of the unexpected expenses associated with this horrid cancer, I was sure that I would be foregoing a wig. I received a sweet email confirming that she had ordered a wig that looks so much like my own hair I am not sure many will even notice. Thank you for your generous, heartfelt act of kindness.
