Causes: Cancer
Mission: The specific purpose of testicular cancer commons is to provide a patient-centered source for the exchange of information and knowledge for testicular cancer and to facilitate expert-based clinical decision support, patient education and large database research. Its vision is to preserve and improve the lives of cancer patients by transforming patient engagement and patient-centered decision-making in cancer care. The organization enacts its vision through it's mission - to improve and personalize the care and decision making in cancer across geographic and business boundaries by aggregating, in real time, comprehensive actionable patient- and provider-supplied clinical information for patients with cancer by:- influencing positively clinical outcomes and costs by making personalized, real-time, knowledge-enriched cancer decisions- generating research-quality clinical and biological data sets for cancer in a patient-centered and patient-controlled environment- learning systematically fro
Programs: Scientific contributions to testicular cancer knowledge base in the form of scientific collaborations to initiate and facilitate projects and publications. Testicular cancer commons has led or co-leads a number of scientific projects that have led to over 15 peer reviewed publications and presentations since 2012. A majority of the program service accomplishments made by testicular cancer commons are achieved through the donation of time and expertise by dr. Nichols and other experienced medical professionals including travel and preparation of posters and papers submitted.
testicular cancer commons considers the following activities significant program service accomplishments, although no cash expenditures can be specifically attributed to these activities for the year ended december 31, 2017:1. ) testicular commons has been selected by the us medical oncology professional organization, the american society of medical oncology (asco) to develop and distribute guidelines for testicular cancer. Testicular cancer commons will lead the effort and be joined by european, canadian and australian partners. The first meeting of the steering committee was held in chicago in late 2015. The asco provided $87,372 in institutional support of organization's activities such as for informatics and scientific efforts and travels and meetings with board during 2017. The organization expects support from asco to end during 2018. 2. ) testicular cancer commons has been named as one of the partners in the western states' testicular cancer consortium, to build real time information and knowledge exchange in testicular cancer. The consortium consists of stanford university, intermountain medical center and testicular cancer commons. Recent projects include telehealth solutions for transfer of experience and knowledge in the western united states. 3. ) testicular cancer commons is one of the world's leaders in social media in testis cancer and has very active twitter feeds and facebook feeds to help disseminate information and experience for people with testicular cancer. The expenses for the social media program were absorbed at the beginning of the organization with the design of the website and logo. 4. ) testicular cancer commons director craig nichols has worked with swog, one of the five federally sponsored cancer cooperative research groups, to develop an international protocol incorporating a new molecular biomarker (mirna 371) into the care and decision making in early stage testicular cancer. Testicular cancer commons also regularly contributes to the mirna 371 data consortium. One of dr. Nichols mentees, dr. Lucia nappi from the british columbia cancer agency was awarded a spot in the swog prestigious and competitive young investigator course for her work on this project. 5. ) other ongoing projects: - organizing meeting regarding data philanthropy from indiana university for surgical, pathology and medical oncology data bases for germ cell tumors. - enabling telehealth solutions for transfer of experience and knowledge in the western united states. - contributions to the mirna in germ cell tumor data consortium.
