Mission: Provide scholarship support for educational classes and training to teach youth and the public about the sport of soaring, to foster national and international competition in the sport of soaring by developing amateur athletes to compete in such competition, acquisition and maintenance of real property for the purpose of operating the sunflower gliderport for use in supporting these activities and access to the public for general aviation aircraft.
Programs: Scholarship program - awarded annually to a youth (14-22 years old) to provide funds in order to obtain glider pilot licenses that facilitate participation, growth, and development in all phases of soaring flight. In 2014, ssf awarded two $500 scholarships and paid out a total of $372.
