The role of Phillips Fundamental Learning Center cannot be overstated for our family. My daughter was evaluated in 5th grade at PFLC for dyslexia, and as part of her evaluation, my husband realized that he too had dyslexia. While my daughter was not able to attend PFLC because of her age, her gift of dyslexia has been life-changing for her. She has learned how dyslexia makes her unique and how dyslexia truly is her superpower. I want every student to have the opportunity to be evaluated at PFLC if they are struggling in school, and we are so blessed to have PFLC in Wichita to help serve students across the state of Kansas with dyslexia.

This school and organization has been an impactful presence in my entire family's lives. All of my children were screened here for dyslexia and led us to know the right intervention for all of them. We've hired therapists who've been trained here to help my struggling children become proficient readers. Our daughter has attended the school and found a warm atmosphere with kind, understanding teachers and a hands-on creative curriculum that encourages creative individualistic expression. The training that I've been through at PFLC shaped the way I interact with my kids with dyslexia, giving me greater understanding and compassion to be able to homeschool them and prepare them to deal with the world as they mature into adults. AWESOME organization!! We are forever grateful!

When I was 6 I was diagnosed here with severe dyslexia, ADHD combined type, and a severe speech impediment. 4 out of 5 of the girls in my family were found to have dyslexia and my mother chose to homeschool us to give us our best chance at learning. My mother came to PFLC stressed, scared, and with no other answers but within a year my mother had finished her course to teach us herself and my speech was already almost completely fixed. This place truly saved us. Thank you for all you do!

We found out about PFLC’s dyslexia testing opportunity through a friend just as our daughter’s light for leaning was dying. And when we found out she is indeed dyslexic Rolph Literacy Academy seemed like the best option for her learning styles and needs. We can’t say how incredibly blessed we feel to see our daughter’s curiosity and passion for learning return! She can’t wait to wake up each morning and go to “the best school ever!!”… and alphabetic phonics is her favorite class because she is finally feeling successful as a literacy learner!! Thank you to Janine Philipps for your dream and passion to see kids saved from constant failure within a traditional school system that doesn’t know how to adequately serve a significant portion of our student population. As a former literacy teacher I hope to take part in the incredibly life changing teacher trainings you offer!! PFLC has changed our family’s trajectory.

I have two children who were assessed at Phillips Fundamental Learning Center (PFLC) and later attended Rolph Literacy Academy. From my very first conversation with the assessor, through the combined total of nine years my children have been enrolled at RLA, my family has always felt supported and welcomed. PFLC not only helped me understand what my kids needed to succeed, but also empowered me with the knowledge to advocate for them. I truly believe their success is a direct result of the exceptional education they received at PFLC, and the invaluable expertise provided to me as a parent.

Phillips Fundamental Learning Center (PFLC) has been truly invaluable to me. The education and support I received there were crucial in preparing me for my future and my entire life. Without PFLC, I wouldn’t have gained the reading skills or proficiency I have today.
I attended Rolph Literacy Academy (RLA) within PFLC. The individualized education I received meant I never felt left behind or that I was progressing too slowly. I am grateful for a school that understood my unique learning needs and provided the support I needed. RLA was always accommodating and created a welcoming environment for all students. I attribute much of my current success to PFLC. As a sophomore in high school now, I am excelling with straight A’s and taking AP classes. I believe every child with dyslexia deserves the opportunity to learn to read, and PFLC has the expertise to make that happen.

My story about this nonprofit, the PHILLIPS FUNDAMENTAL LEARNING CENTER (PFLC) is for two purposes. PFLC's mission is twofold, first it is to teach dyslexic kids 5 to 10 years of age how read, write, and spell, and second it is to train teachers throughout the world how to do the same. Before preceding it is important to the reader to know my background.

My name is Roger D. Lowe, CPA, and retired Vice President for Finance and Administration at Wichita State University for nearly 51 years. Building buildings and buying land, was one of many responsibilities of the assignment. I retired in 2013 and 11 months later, the Ex. Director of PFLC called and asked if I would serve on the Board of Directors. After hearing the important story of the mission, I gladly accepted. This will be the 11th year to have had the opportunity to help these young kids.

PFLC was created in 2001 to train teachers to teach the kids to read. In my first year we started a school to teach kids with 7 boys, adding 3 girls the next semester, and from then the enrollment continued to grow. We soon outgrew two different rented facilities and decided that we needed to buy land, and build our own building, to further the mission. That meant a private campaign for funding to do both. People in our city of Wichita, KS and Foundations throughout the USA were so appreciative of this special mission, that we soon hired an architect, and the work began. We were making progress in the fundraising efforts when COVID hit us with massive increases in building materials, causing us to increase our land, building, and scholarship budget from $20M to $25.3M. We had to extend the campaign a year, but people and foundations understood and added to their original pledge to make this dream come possible for the young kids for the next 100 years and beyond. We bought 25 acres of land early in the campaign and as a new Board member with experience in building buildings, the Board appointed me Director of the Building Planning Committee. Jeanine Phillips, Executive Director of PFLC had an interesting remembrance of a discussion with her Father on a Youth Cultural Training Center that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Wichita State University. It was to be a lab school for the WSU College of Education building, also designed by Wright, but never built. Her Father told her before his passing, that someday that building should be built. That led us to find an architect in a Wichita Architectural Firm, that had made a lifetime commitment to studying all of Wright's work, including his touring both of Wright's headquarters, all of his offices and homes that he had designed. So, we hired the firm, with instructions that this specific staff architect would design the building, incorporating the influence of Frank Lloyd Wright's lifetime work into the building. The end product is that the building is one of a kind in the world, with teaching programs within the building equal in distinction, in giving kids a chance in life. The new building and campus was opened and occupied in October 2023 and is serving all of the intended purposes extremely well.

Now for the second purpose mentioned in my opening statement. In the latter part of the winter months, my Grandson, Brice Lowe called and said that their youngest of three was having difficulty reading. I suggested to him to call PFLC and make an appointment to have her assessed. The tests revealed that Charleigh was truly dyslexic. So, she was enrolled in the summer program and she came home happy from school, loved it so much that Brice and his wife have enrolled her in the fall program starting soon. I was so very proud of being involved in this important work for these past 11 years, and now at the age of 92, I am so blessed that I was in a position to immediately help in giving one of my very own a chance of having a great life.

I started the Literacy Intervention Specialist course this summer at the the Fundamental Learning Center. The training has been a game changer for me as an educator. I am in a public school system, and our school chose to serve our students with dyslexia with this program. It has been an absolute blessing to our district. I am not only helping the kids learn to read who couldn't before but also helping classroom teachers with implementing accommodations that can be made for those students to be more successful in the classroom. The Fundamental Learning Center provides a safe learning environment and goes above and beyond to help us to be the best we can be at what we do. This is my second year using the Fundamental Learning Centers' Alphabetic Phonics and it is absolutely the best. The instructors that conducted my training, over the last two summers are excellent. In my thirty years of teaching this program and training have been, by far the most productive I have experienced in my career. This should be a requirement for going into elementary education, for the training received from the Fundamental Learning Center would prepare every teacher to teach reading and writing with precision and confidence. Giving more students a strong reading foundation.

PFLC has been life changing for us in so many ways. We spent many years in tears researching how to help our daughter who was struggling to read and write. After months of searching we found PFLC, but at the time we were living in Houston TX. After careful planning we were able to relocate to Wichita in hopes of her attending RLA to begin intervention she desperately needed. We are now starting year 3 at RLA and her confidence and love for learning has returned. She is reading and writing and loves coming to school. We couldn’t be more grateful to have our silly, loving and enthusiastic daughter back. We now have our other two children enrolled, as we now know early intervention is key for children with dyslexia.
Not only does PFLC help our children on a daily basis, but they educate and empower the parents. We can attend monthly lectures and classes to help us better understand how our children learn and how to help them along the way.

Having two kids diagnosed with dyslexia at age 13 and 14, we needed help and help fast! Living 100 mi away from Wichita, driving there for private tutoring was not an option, so I received training from Fundamental Learning Center to become an Academic Language Therapist in order to help my own children. That service expanded to helping local kids learn how to read and spell. The gift of this training ultimately helped desperate families and changed the lives of many children. I so appreciate the staff at Fundamental Learning Center and their readiness to answer our questions and do what is ultimately best for these amazing kids. What a great place!

Three of our children currently attend the Rolph Literacy Academy at the Philips Fundamental Learning Center. This school has truly been a blessing to our children. Before we found PFLC our children attended a private school. My daughter was not reading at grade level and my son was not learning his letters. The teachers were unable to tell us what was “wrong” with our children and had no suggestions on how to help them. A relative suggested we have our son assessed at PFLC. It was determined that he was dyslexic and we decided to enroll him in the Rolph Literacy Academy. Within a month at the school he knew all of the letters and was making so much progress. He was so happy to go to school. We had our daughter who wasn’t reading at grade level assessed also and sure enough the assessment showed dyslexia and we enrolled her in the school as well. When our youngest daughter was not learning her letters in preschool we had her assessed and it was determined she is dyslexic too. She started at Rolph Literacy Academy this fall for kindergarten. The teachers and staff at the PFLC are so knowledgeable about dyslexia. They are so caring and supportive of the children and families they work with. We are so thankful we found the PFLC for our children.

I first learned about dyslexia when I began teaching at a private school in Wichita. One of my student’s parents came to visit me after I had “red-marked” her son’s essay. She was quite gentle with me in explaining her son’s dyslexia and how spelling would always be an issue for him. Her approach still resonates with me today, and how I wish I had known about dyslexia during my entire teaching career. Later, this mother, Jeanine Phillips and her friend, Gretchen Andeel, opened Fundamental Learning Center to serve students who struggled with reading, writing and spelling. In addition, they created a teaching center to train teachers in their teaching methods. Since that time, I have been employed at FLC and served on the board. In my mind, this nonprofit is unparalleled when it comes to working with not only children with dyslexia, but with any child who struggles with literacy. In my view, it is a top-rated nonprofit.

Our youngest son had just finished up 2nd grade when we finally found FLC. When our oldest was in 1st grade we asked every teacher, we knew or didn’t’ know why our son could not spell. It was always the same answer “it just takes time it will come”. Eight years later he still wasn’t spelling and our youngest wasn’t reading, didn’t even know his alphabet. Finally, we found FLC, and they answered questions and gave us answers to questions we did not know to ask. They are truly a life changing center. FLC has a whole team that has been very generous in helping us on our journey. Our youngest would have been illiterate without them offering parent classes and our oldest two would not be in college today.

When I tell people I am involved with the Phillips Fundamental Learning Center and explain the organization’s mission of serving children with reading, writing, and spelling difficulties (such as dyslexia), I am often asked why I choose to be involved with this organization. Many assume I have a child attending the Rolph Literacy Academy or whether I myself am dyslexic. The truth is, though, I was drawn to this organization based on the behaviors and attitudes I witnessed from administrators and teachers who helped introduce me to the organization. Not one of the many employees and volunteers I have met from this organization exhibit anything other than respect, compassion, and commitment to furthering the organization’s mission of ensuring all children – including the nearly 20% of children affected by dyslexia – have the right to not only function, but thrive, in a world where reading, writing, and spelling are basic skills required on the path to success. I have enjoyed my three years so far working with the Phillips Fundamental Learning Center and am looking forward to continuing my involvement for many more years to come so that I can also help further this important mission!

The PFLC was crucial to my daughter's success! I learned how to teach her the way she learns best as a dyslexic student. She thrived despite her personal challenges in reading efficiently. Her bright brain struggled to sound out words and most comprehension was lost because of it. I'm thankful for the leaders and teachers at PFLC, for without them teaching me, my daughter would have struggled more in the public school. She's started grad school this semester! Dyslexia is a medical issue impacting 20% of the population, including my family. With the help of FLC and staff we have been able to send our daughter on an independent life style, being an income producer, and providing a significant impact to young children all the while still being impacted by a profound case of dyslexia. Teachers that see young students each day need to understand the huge talents present inside these students and not just pass off their reading slowness by saying "just try harder". There is a solution and FLC has it. Thanks Wayne

The public school couldn't tell me why our smart son wasn't learning to read. Finally a friend told us about FLC when he was in fourth grade and we knew what he needed! I took the training and started tutoring him and things finally started making sense for him, he finally became a reader.
Unfortunately he is severely dyslexic and because we started intervention so late, he only reads at a sixth grade level even after years of private tutoring. Obviously this limits his job choices as an adult now and I mourn that we were not able to give him what he needed beginning as a kindergartner. Research shows this would have made a difference in his progress.
We are full supporters of FLC and what they are doing for children and to train teachers and therapists here in the mid-west. Our children are our future!

Fundamental Learning Center in Wichita, KS is exemplary in every regard. In 2001 two dedicated women created this 501(c)(3) organization to help children with dyslexia learn to read. Until that time there was no help for such children in this area, nor even recognition by the Kansas school system that the condition was a learning disability. The two founders and other dedicated people worked tirelessly. As a result FLC expanded and taught reading skills to many children. While my children did not have this condition, I am dedicated to the financial support of FLC because of its tremendous effect on the quality of life of the children it serves. Each dollar donated is used in the most efficient way possible.

Fundamental Learning Center is a very important part of my family's life. Before we found FLC my oldest son was struggling significantly in school. He was frustrated and angry and we were repeatedly told he was "not learning". After almost a year of testing and specialists we found FLC and discovered that he is profoundly dyslexic and dysgraphic. He has been attending Ralph Literacy Academy at FLC for 4 years now and the changes we have seen are astounding. He is himself again - happy, confident, positive. He started 4 years ago not knowing his letters or sounds and today he is confidently reading books like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. Through FLC we have not only found a place for our son to learn, but have learned so much ourselves through their classes and workshops -- we are better parents because of FLC! I was hesitant at first to believe there was something "wrong" with my son, but FLC showed me his strengths & his talents and I will forever be grateful to them for this.

The Fundamental Learning Center is one of the main reasons why I am where I am today. I was a 2nd grader who hated school and didn't understand why it was so hard. I was unable to read and my mom looked for help. She found The Fundamental Learning Center. I went through the process many kids go through today. I was screened for dyslexia and found a tutor. I went through the Alphabetic Phonics program and learned to read and become a successful learner. As I got older, I knew I wanted to help kids just like me. I graduated with my Elementary Education Degree and received Alphabetic Phonics training at FLC. I am now a reading and math teacher at The Darrell and Dee Rolph Literacy Academy and help many kids just like myself find their strengths and overcome their challenges. I am thankful for The Fundamental Learning Center for the role they have had in my life as a child and as an adult.

A teacher trained by FLC saved my son’s life. She recognized he was struggling to read and why. Early intervention, starting in 1st grade, changed the course of his life. FLC also educated us on navigating the system, how to ask for and qualify for accommodations. He got a perfect score on the ACT Reading Test and is a college graduate. We are forever grateful and thankful.

I grew up in Wichita and graduated from East High School.

While in graduate school at Texas Woman’s University in the early eighties, I was asked to tutor students who learned differently. After graduation, I learned about a new group of teachers in Dallas, called Certified Academic Language Therapists (CALTS). They were being trained to work with Dyslexic students, who were extremely bright and creative, but had difficulty with reading, spelling, writing and learned differently from most students in school.

I earned certification as an Academic Language Therapist from Southern Methodist University and worked with Dyslexic students for twenty seven years.

When I would visit my friends in Wichita years ago, many of whom were teachers, I was told the Kansas school districts didn’t have Language Therapists who could work with Dyslexic students. Years later, at an Academic Language Therapy Conference in Dallas, I met Jeanine Phillips, from Wichita, and she told me about The Fundamental Learning Center, which she and Gretchen Andeel had founded.

My husband and I visited Wichita and toured The Fundamental Learning Center, and we were very impressed. It was such a joy to see the children interacting with the teachers and having fun learning in different, creative ways. Now, I’m SO proud to be able to tell friends all over the country about The Fundamental Learning Center in Wichita. I highly recommend it as a leader in developing children with Dyslexia into students who enjoy learning and using their talents to better the world.

As a retired teacher, I saw children who struggled to learn to read every day, and parents who were desperate to help them. It has been 20 years since I took that first training in Alphabetic Phonics. I worked with children of all different ages in regular education settings, juvenile detention facilities, emotionally disturbed centers, and alternative schools. I continued to take courses from Fundamental Learning Center in order to meet the varied needs of children who were struggling with many problems and trying to learn to read. It was wonderful to have tools to actually help these students. I will always remember the girl who thought there was no hope for learning to read when she hugged me and said thank you for helping her read.
I cannot say enough good things about the Fundamental Learning Center and their program to help others teach students to learn to read. May they continue to give to others for many more years.

The Fundamental Learning Center has provided instruction to help us teach students and now our grandchildren how to read, write and spell in the face of each having profound dyslexia. Their community outreach and resources to thousands of Academic Language Therapists in our community, our state and now across the nation, has been outstanding at every turn. They themselves have taught many of those teachers. The teaching staff at their Rolph Literacy Academy also taught our oldest grandson through a two year period, and with additional Academic Language Therapist's help he is enjoying reading like a champ at 10 years of age.

The Fundamental Learning Center Inc. is a phenomenal resource and support for parents and teachers of dyslexic students who are in the homeschool/private/public education system. It has helped us find our way to teach our daughter learn how to read. This organization is non-profit so they are here to help!

I was trained at FLC to teach her Alphabetic Phonics, an Orton-Gillingham method, so we can homeschool our daughter. But after a year, we decided it was worthwhile to send her to Rolph Literacy Academy, a school for dyslexic students (5-9 yrs). It has only been 8 weeks and we have noticed our daughter blossom; from being afraid to go to school to being excited for school. She now runs toward the school doors and can tell me everything about her day.

As a parent, the staff at FLC continue to teach me many things about overcoming challenges that come with dysleixa.

I have been a reading specialist in a public school for 16 years, but have only felt like a “specialist” since attending trainings at FLC. Even though the struggling readers in my school receive quality instruction, some still are not successful readers. After years of trying many strategies to teach reading to incompetent readers without adequate success, I decided to start my training in Alphabetic Phonics at the Fundamental Learning Center. Since the introductory AP class two years ago, my reading instruction has been revolutionized! I am overjoyed that I now feel completely equipped to teach struggling students how to read!

Yet, like many districts, we had to follow a protocol. Fearful our 8 yr old would be discouraged by the long wait, we made an appointment. A good friend recommended FLC. We had an appointment a week later. We had an answer in 2 hours. And support immediately. If we had waited, we would have waited over two months and the State of KS doesn't even evaluate for dyslexia. Before she went she could barely read any words at all and was very frustrated and disappointed in herself. Now she can read a lot and has so much self confidence that it is a complete change. She goes to school every day eagerly and excited to learn. The environment at her school is just amazing. The teachers are kind and thoughtful and teach to the kids abilities and talents, in addition to helping them with what they struggle with, which is generally reading, math, spelling and other things that are language- related. Before finding the Fundamental Learning Center, my daughter was constantly frustrated and disappointed and had very low self- esteem. Now she has done a complete 180. She is happy, excited, and loves to learn. She loves math and is good at reading at her level. She has made friends that are peers that understand her struggles and vice versa. It is the very best learning environment possible for my child, & I am ever grateful to have found them. in addition, they also offer free parent classes to educate parents about their child's disorder and how to help and support and advocate for them. They also teach teachers how to teach children with dyslexia, which only improves our city's ability to help these children to learn. FLC has been and continues to be the answer for so many children who are struggling to learn to read, write and spell. Parents who have sought answers to their children's inability to read, are relieved when they finally get help for their children at FLC.

Last year, FLC "upped the ante" to provided much-needed service to struggling readers when it opened "Right Academy", a school for these students. This initiative continues to gain momentum as the school's enrollment tripled this year.

I intend to stay connected to FLC as long as I'm physically and mentally able.

I agreed to come on the Board of Directors of the Fundamental Learning Center, Inc., Wichita, KS in January 2014. I had very little knowledge of the work of the corporation but after learning of their mission, I agreed to a 3 year term on the Board. I was informed that I would need to serve on one committee. After three months, I found myself on four committees, Executive, Finance, Governance, and Facilities Development. I chair the Facilities Development Committee.

During this short period of time, I have found that Jeanine Phillips, Executive Director has an enormous passion to serve the 5-8 year old children that are dyslexic and have a severe problem of reading, writing, and spelling. That passion has been very addictive to her staff as they too are highly committed to serve these young people. The teaching staff also are committed to training teachers, from the public and private schools, to teach young children in their own classrooms.

The majority of the Board of Directors are Mothers or Fathers of dyslexic children. I bring a different prospective to the Board in that I was Vice President for Administration and Finance at Wichita State University for 45 years and Senior Vice President for another 5 years prior to my retirement. Given my 50 years as an administrator I have experienced various degrees of passion for individual performances and I would place the FLC staff at the top of the class for the passion that is shown for their respective assignments. Without reservation, I would request the highest rating possible for this organization.

I have been on the board of Fundamental Learning Center for five years now and my passion for teaching children with dyslexia to read continues to grow. My own educational background is both teaching and school psychology. I taught for several years before starting a long career as a school psychologist. I worked both positions within our local public school district where these special children continue to fail in the acquisition of even basic reading skills. The methods of instruction taught to teachers at Fundamental Learning Center are very solid and grounded in research. The survival of this organization is critical. Much work has been done, but much work still lies ahead. These children are our future. We cannot fail them.

The FLC is such an amazing resource for those who struggle with reading. They offer a wide variety of help and the staff goes to great lengths and self sacrifice out of their compassion for people. FLC helped define the problems my son was having and offered several different options to get him the assistance he needed. I opted to do the training to help him myself and have found the classes to be engaging and the program to be exactly what he needed. I have been impressed with how hard all the staff works for the benefit of the people they serve.

I was trained as a reading therapist by the founder of Fundamental Learning Center. I used that training to work with language learning different students (mainly dyslexic) for 17 years. The thrill of seeing a non-reader become a reader by using the Orton-Gillingham based program that FLC offers is immeasurable. The founder and director of FLC is a truly dedicated and tireless advocate for children struggling to read, write and spell. Fundamental Learning Center is definitely an oasis in a desert of
misguided reading instruction techniques.

My son was always a good student but struggled with English classes and writing assignments I was aware that he had tracking problems, dysgraphia, and ADD since I have a degree in education. Each year the battle for accommodations in public school got harder. One counselor in middle school even told me to stop asking for accommodations if I expected my son to go to college because he wouldn't get accommodations there. Particularly, some English teachers either did not want to grant accommodations or provide them once the IEP was signed. I truly felt like the educational cards were stacked against us. Initially, I turned to the Fundamental Learning Center, Inc. to ask if they could help me advocate for my sons rights for accommodations. The staff members I spoke with gave me the information and encouragement I needed to persevere in the IEP gauntlet. It was also suggested that it might be helpful to have my son formally evaluated. I was shocked when the results revealed he had dyslexia. How did I, an education major, not recognize he had dyslexia! The answer is, highly intelligent children compensate so well that many educators miss the signs of dyslexia. Also, public school doesn't want to accommodate students who aren't failing. That's why it is imperative that parents with educational concerns seek the kind of qualified, professional help offered by the Fundamental Learning Center, Inc. With their assistance, documentation, and encouragement,I was armed with irrefutable information that enabled me to fight for the necessary accommodations my son was entitled to. Also, the master's level course on teaching language skills that I took at the learning center enabled me to bring him up to grade level and beyond even though I was told he would probably never be able to have the same language skills as his peers. When my son enrolled in college, he was granted every single accommodation we asked for. This would not have happened without the help we received from the learning center. My son made straight A's the last two years of high school. He is now a senior at KU and still making straight A's in engineering. It's a good thing I didn't pay any attention to the idiot public school teacher who said my son was just too lazy to do his assignments. I know many other parents who got tired of fighting the system so they just gave up on I.E.P.s for their child. Without the help of the Fundamental Learning Center, Inc., I might have been one of them.

My daughter has had trouble in a "traditional" school since Kindergarten. We signed her up for the Right Lab Academy school this summer, and we saw a dramatic difference in her attitude toward school immediately. "It is FUN!" she would say when I would pick her up each day. She is involved in multi-sensory learning all day--which means that she is not sitting at a desk doing worksheets, but moving about and learning with all of her senses. She has had a lot of trouble learning to read, which is why we signed her up, but I feel that the total experience of the school is going to be much more suited to her learning style. We have only had six weeks or so of experience so far, but I am excited to see where the rest of the school year goes and how much she begins to learn and grow with her "peers", of which she sees as her equals. She no longer fears learning or being made fun of because she does not "understand". The other children are learning just like her, and it is difficult for all of them. This makes it a better experience for each of them, as they can grow together in a safe learning place where they are nourished and not put down.

We found out last fall that two of our grandchildren have dyslexia, and my daughter and son-in-law immediately wanted to get them the tutoring they needed. It was decided that I would go get the training to become their tutor. I began the process by taking Reading Readiness at the Fundamental Learning Center last fall. The boys have already made progress, and I'm now very excited to use the further training I got this late winter to begin tutoring them using Alphabetic Phonics. Implementing this multi-sensory approach to learning to read, in a systemic, precept upon precept manner is both a fun and successful way to learn to read. The Fundamental Learning Center is making a big difference in children's lives, both in their present and their future. I feel privileged to be a part of this process in my grandsons' lives, and whomever else I may tutor in the future. Thank you, Fundamental Learning Center; the teachers there are great, helpful, and very encouraging to all.

The information that I learned at the Fundamental Learning Center has given me a new direction! I have been involved in education for 20 years and have never felt as if I was adequately prepared to teach students to read. With the training I received at the Fundamental Learning Center I will now be able to help all of the students I teach become successful readers. This training should be mandatory for all educators at every level, I wish it hadn't taken me so long to find this organization.

I have been in education for 27 years now. I have attended many conferences, trainings and classes. I have to say this was by far, the most informative, organized, and well taught class I have ever attended. To have this information taught to every educator would be so beneficial for all of our students, not just those with dyslexia. Our instructors are experts in their field and delivered the information in an understandable fashion. Well done Fundamental Learning Center!

I had the opportunity to work in the same organization with Jeanine Phillips over 10 years ago. Little did I know how it would be a life changing opportunity for me personally. As I continued to admire Jeanine's dedication and persistence to educating parents and the public about dyslexia, I soon found myself seeking, at the time, her newly founded organizations expertise for our own daughter. After successfully attending two years of Montessori Preschool and a year in Montessori Kindergarten in a private school, our daughter entered a traditional setting in First Grade. Within six months of First Grade she began having behavorial and non-compliant issues. We were advised it may be in our best interest to have our daughter tested for learning challenges. Fundamental Learning Center recommended Dr. Brian Stone for testing and our journey began with diagnosis of dyslexia, dysgraphia, and auditory processing issues. We transfered to our hometown public edcuation system in Andover, Kansas and immediately began early intervention as suggested by Dr. Brian Stone and Fundamental Learning Center. Having been exposed to Jeanine Phillips passion and attending various presentations of hers over the years, we probably had a better understanding of what we were faced with than most parents would have had at that time. From putting an R & L on our daughters respective hands as she learned to play basketball; to using coffee beans, sand, markers and paper to make visual props for learning to read and recognize letters; to labeling everything in the house so she could visually see how to spell the object; trace it with her finger; see it; touch it; read it; whatever it took to stimulate her love of learning; we embraced her creative learning style. Today our daughter is a successful 16 year old who enjoys life; embraces others and their differences and loves encouraging her friends to be the best they can be. Our fondest memory of this journey thus far will forever be finding various objects around our farm labeled in magic marker Mom's or Dad's as she determined what belonged to whom. Someone now owns a Dixon lawnmower we sold labeled "Dad's". Thank you Jeanine Phillips and Fundamental Learning Center for pushing for education and understanding of the creative and fascinating ability; Dyslexia. MichelleS

For over 2 years my 9 year old son struggled to learn to read. Always a confident student and person, we began to see his self confidence decline. Several times I asked his classroom teachers and school administrators if he should be tested. Each time I was told no. However, shortly after he started 3rd grade we were told by his teacher that he was reading below 1st grade level and the school was at a "dead end" in knowing how to work with him. By chance I stumbled onto the Fundamental Learning Center and my son has been diagnosed with dyslexia. Through Alphabetic Phonics intervention tutoring he's now learning the skills needed to become a better reader. His stress and frustration levels have been greatly reduced and his self confidence is being rebuilt. The staff at FLC are extremely knowledgeable and supportive.

I had tried different types of homeschool curriculum to help my daughter, but it wasn't until I went through the training to become a Literary Intervention Specialist that I began to understand what her issues were and how I could help her. While I was only able to use the early part of the program with her, I have continued to tutor other children and am amazed at the results. I have seen them go from barely being able to sound out a word to spelling and reading multi-syllable words. It is very rewarding to work with these children using this program and they do not get bored because of the multi-sensory aspect. I tell other parents my regret at not finding the Center earlier and urge them to be pro-active with their children at an early age. The staff at Fundamentals are top-notch and vested in the goal that all children be able to read fluently.

I have always had an interest in reading difficulties for students that I taught. There are many different programs that try to address this issue and during my career it seems I may have tried them all. However, it was not until I went to teach overseas that I could see teaching English reading and writing to Arabic students demanded a thorough knowledge of phonics. When I returned for a summer vacation I took a course in Alphabetic Phonics with what is now the Fundamental Learning Center. Oh, wow, I was totally lost when I first used this method of teaching students. I cannot tell you how helpful and patient the staff at FLC were with me! Since working there as one of their first therapists, I have taken a job working with students who have behavior and emotional issues in a special education setting. I have also done tutoring with other students not in my classroom. I cannot tell you how rewarding it is to see students make huge strides in reading and I always feel like I have performed this little "miracle". I have such faith in this program and regret that more students in regular education settings are not receiving this method of instruction. I am retiring from teaching this year and feel badly as I have a treasure trove of knowledge now that I wish I had had earlier in my career. It has been such a pleasure to use Alphabetic Phonics and see the growth of students. Donate and help others achieve that "miracle" work.

I love this place! I thought my daughter's school issues were due to large class rooms in the public schools so I switched her to a Christian School where I was paying a ridiculous amount of tuition. After she was not improving even after being in the private school environment for 4 years, I had her tested. She was diagnosed with Dysgraphia and ADHD. When I went to the private school for help, they wanted to charge me $280 per month (on top of tuition already paid) to help her. Being a single mother, I was already making a HUGE sacrifice paying private school tuition, so the additional cost was not possible for me. I did some digging around and a good friend told me about Fundamental Learning Center (FUN LC). When I called them, they were helpful and were able to enroll her in their classes quickly. They are so good, in fact, that the private school I had my daughter in didn't even mention Fundamental LC's services to me even though they had trained all their own special education teachers at FUN LC!! They wanted all the money for themselves, of course. But when I got to FUN LC, I was notified of all the different ways I could pay and the cost was less than half what the private school wanted to charge me! I have since pulled my daughter from that greedy private school. She attends a public school and goes to FUN LC everyday after school for one hour. She has massively improved. Now that I don't have to spend half my paycheck on a greedy private school, I pay FUN LC their full tutoring fee...because I can now afford it AND because they deserve every penny of it.

After several year of searching and struggling to find the cause of my son's extreme difficulties in school, we finally were given the diagnosis of severe dyslexia and dysgraphia. With that diagnosis came the recommendation to go to the Fundamental Learning Center (FLC). Our decision to go there was one of the best decisions we ever made. From the beginning, they have been a steady rock in the turbulent seas of helping a child with a learning difference. When, as a mother full of fears and questions for her child, I first called them, they were compassionate and helpful, taking the time to talk with me and answer my questions. When I decided to take the Literacy Intervention Specialist Training that the Center offers so I could work with my son, I received top-rate training. Even now, as I work full-time helping learning different children, I continue to receive encouragement and support from the FLC. I know that I can take any question that I have about my teaching to them and I will receive the help that I need. My son is now in 5th grade and is reading at grade level. I credit his success to the Fundamental Learning Center. They gave me the encouragement and skills I needed to help him.

My daughter, Brianna, was diagnosed with severe dyslexia and dysgraphia in 2008 due to close communication with her 1st grade teacher. Had I not gotten her tested per his suggestion, she would be failing miserably in school. Her medical diagnosis has provided her a 504 accommodation plan for schooling and I am proud to say that in 2011 she passed the KS State Reading Assessment with a score of 100%.

All children deserve the opportunity to be successful in school, but many go undiagnosed. Brianna hopes all children can get the assistance they need to be as successful as her.
