Mission: To provide all citizens of the elk grove community and the greater metropolitan sacramento region with a free annual festival featuring the artistic works of johann strauss the younger and his musical family.
Programs: The strauss festival held its 29th annual performance in 2016; a costumed dance and musical event held in elk grove regional park in elk grove, california. The free production attracts thousands of people of all ages, genders, ethnicity, economic levels and physical condition. With the exception of the professional orchestra, security personnel, sanitation and professional sound and lighting technicians, all of the work for the festival is performed by over 300 volunteers that spend in excess of 45,000 hours annually as dancers, choreographers, costumers, set builders as well as performing and other support functions. There are no employees, and no commissions, fees or other compensation that is paid. The four-night set of performances occurs annually during the month of july, with fundraising events for 2016 in march (spring tea), june (gala), and october (masquerade ball). There is no admission charge to the festival which is entirely supported by the northern california community and surrounding areas.
