Mission: The southwest school of art teaches and advances the visual arts for the benefit of students seeking higher education and for others seeking education and enrichment.
Programs: The organization's bachelor of fine arts (bfa) degree program began in 2014. It requires students to become deeply involved in the process of making as a form of inquiry and discovery, with equal emphasis on content and craft. The program challenges students to value both tradition and innovation and to graduate with the skills to be working artists and engaged citizens. In 2017, there were four cohorts with a total of 53 students. The organization also operates programs for the community: exhibitions that are free and open to the public, and adult studio program serving over 2,000 annually, several programs for youth, and public programs that include symposia, lectures, events, and the operation of the historic site, the former ursuline convent and academy, where a portion of the school is located.
