Causes: Blind & Visually Impaired Centers, Counseling, Disabilities, Eye Diseases, Blindness & Vision Impairments, Health, Human Services, Mental Health
Mission: The mission of the society for the blind is to empower individuals who are blind or have low vision to live productively and independently by building confidence through training, tools and mentorship.
Programs: In 2014, 5,373 individuals from throughout the sacramento region were assisted by our services and programs; 149 rehabilitation clients received a total of 13,820 hours of blindness instruction; 816 older adults gained increased independence through our senior impact program; 7,741 calls were placed to access news; and 149 youth participated in our youth enrichment program.
in 2014, 290 people were helped through our low vision clinic by an optometrist specializing in low vision and low vision aids.
in 2014, 7,741 calls were placed to access news, where they could hear newspaper and magazine articles, community events calendars, sales ads and more over the phone.
in 2014, 2,117 people benefitted from over 88 separate outreach events; 333 volunteers provided 16,304 hours of volunteer service; and 3,446 rides were provided through our transportation program.
