Programs: Education - through access to world-class solutions, subject-matter experts and superior building standards, such as fortified home, we serve as a hub of information and innovators, sharing knowledge with consumers, policymakers and stakeholders to teach them about the resources available to build a resilient community and how to apply them. Program activities: launched the alabama coastal insurance shoppers guide in partnership with the university of alabama to provide information to the 620,000 plus residents of mobile and baldwin counties, al; launched a public service outreach campaign, don't goof when you re-roof, which generated over 1. 2 million impressions; provided over 15 lunch and learn or training opportunities reaching 425 individual stakeholders.
outreach - a critical component to our work, outreach activities serve multiple purposes: to build relationships in the community, bridge gaps in understanding, enact improved building codes and incentives, to support resilience policies and empower consumers with the knowledge to undertake, and fund, hazard mitigation. Program services: engaged in 34 education and outreach events, reaching over 1,000 people directly; our new website and social media accounts generated over 130,000 impressions; launched a quarterly newsletter which reached nearly 1,000 subscribers; supported the launch of the strengthen alabama homes mitigation grant program which received over 10,000 applications by fielding consumer questions and providing information to the public and stakeholders.
collaboration - serving as a nexus of resilient minded organizations and thought leaders, smart home america convenes the building industry, government and the community to implement proven solutions to create resilient communities. Program activities: launched the bra2c2e framework for community resilience and expanded support of resilience efforts to eight states; convened over a dozen partners for a resilience strategy meeting at the insurance institute for business and home safety research center to identify needs and areas of support; supported the launch of the new fortified home high wind and hail program in oklahoma, helping to set the stage for that state to become the 5th to officially recognize fortified as a primary mitigation solution; partnered with the property and casualty insurance association of america to produce their 2016 tornado preparedness guide; through collaborative efforts, grew the number of fortified home designations by over 80% nationally.
