I was a matted, flea infested stray with intestinal parasites, ear mites and two pounds under weight when I was picked up by the county animal control on the streets of South Phoenix in late October of 2010. Since my owners never came looking for me, I was put on the euthanasia list as un-adoptable because I lacked socialization and was fearful. Fortunately, my card stating “one-year old stray -no name” was pulled by Ruby Ranch Pet Rescue and Sanctuary just in time, and I was adopted on November 13, 2010.
I am just one of hundreds of dogs Pam Heine of Ruby Ranch Pet Rescue and Sanctuary has given a second chance on life. From senior dogs to dogs suffering from neglect, abuse or major illnesses and/or having disabilities from blindness to being lame or needing amputations in order to survive, no dog is forgotten. In fact, Miss Pam specializes in 'the un-adoptables'. Each is given care and love, fed special needs diets, given proper veterinary care, fostered and then either adopted out to a special forever home or kept in a foster situation to live out its time with dignity and love.
Operating solely on donations, Ruby Ranch could use the help you might be able to offer. Miss Pam, my foster mom, gave me a second chance and continues to give hundreds of other dogs a new lease on life, many of which were abandoned and were found fighting for survival on the dusty and dirty streets across the border and in Southern Arizona.
I am now a registered therapy dog with Alliance of Therapy Dogs and a 6 year volunteer with Pets on Wheels of Scottsdale, Inc. (POW), a 5 year volunteer for Hospice of the Valley, 4 years with HonorHealth and just this year I became a volunteer for Gabriel’s Angels where at risk young children who read well below grade level read to me and Sky Harbor International Airport where I bring smiles while relieving stress and anxiety to passengers, crew members and staff. I also do some modeling through Arizona Animal Actors and have my own Facebook page, www.facebook.com/zoethetherapydog
Not bad for a “one-year old stray – no name” and there are countless more like me who she has saved and will continue to save. Without Miss Pam and Ruby Ranch Pet Rescue and Sanctuary, I would not be giving back to my community – I would be a pile of ashes!
Thank you for reading my request, and I hope you can honor this wonderful 501c3 organization.
Signed,
Zoe the Therapy Dog
