I can't adequately express our gratitude to Tori and everyone involved in our son's room makeover from Room For Joy. It has been literally life changing for our son, Andrew, in very positive ways. His room has improved his health as the contaminants that were impacting him are gone. His room is dark and his bed comfortable, so his sleep is greatly improved.
In addition to that, it is SUPER COOL!! Andrew is a a Pokemon SUPER FAN and the room is his own sanctuary where he can rest, do school work and have fun. It is a blessing that keeps on giving and we are so deeply grateful for this gift!
Room For Joy does so much for children who are facing life altering medical challenges. The funds go directly to help the families they serve. They are angels on earth and excellent stewards of the funds they are entrusted with. Please consider bringing this gift of health and happiness to other well deserving children by making a tax deductible donation to Room For Joy today!
Rooms for Joy are a God send. They became a part of my families life in 2008. My daughter AnLee was given a room make over during her illness with Leukemia ALL hypodiploid . A Very rare form of Leukemia. If it wasn't for Tory and her team my daughter wouldn't have experienced the Joy of such a beautiful sanctuary. A princess theme. All the Disney princesses of that moment. They also were able to remake her playroom into a classroom since AnaLee wasn't able to go to school. It was done in a Paris theme. AnaLees make a wish was to see the tower in Paris. Thank you Rooms for Joy for making AnaLees last 10 days at home so special. Your organization is awesome Tory. We were so appreciative and thankful to help out with a few rooms. It was a great feeling for us to pay it forward. Thank you Jesus for blessing Tory and team. May they be able to do there craft of making children happy. God bless Rooms for Joy
There are plenty of good causes vying for your donations, but Room for Joy (RFJ) serves a forgotten segment of the population. Chronically ill children and their families.
When a child becomes medically fragile, acutely or chronically ill, continual trips to hospitals are just the first step on a long and difficult road. They need ongoing care, inpatient or specialty services. But when they're not in the hospital, most of them spend the majority of their lives confined to their homes, in bedrooms equipped with machines.
This isolation is terribly difficult.
That's where Room for Joy comes in. Over a single weekend, RFJ will come in and do a “Hollywood level” bedroom makeover for a chronically ill child who is selected as a recipient by a local hospitals.
We create an indoor environment with special attention to the medical, physical and emotional needs of each child. We adding special touches that personalize the rooms and fulfill their dreams.
These makeovers are done starting on a Friday morning and the reveal, like a TV reality show, happens Sunday at 4:00 PM.
To accomplish this, we have to send the families away for the weekend (locally). All expenses paid. This is a BIG deal for them because 99% of the time, these families NEVER get any down time, all their finances and effort go into caring for their child.
RFJ will put the families up in a hotel and pay for activities, etc., and they are instructed to come back at 4 PM on Sunday for the "big reveal.
Says founder, Tory Smock, “When a family is chosen, I interview them, select a date for the makeover and start working on the concept. Once the concept is complete we start constructing things WEEKS in advance, at our volunteer carpenter’s shop. These are not “slap some paint on the walls and add new blinds makeovers” we do everything from maximizing space, to facilitating the concealment of medical equipment so the child can look and live as “normally” as possible.
Room For Joy’s heroic ability to bring children a healing environment at home or in a hospital, depends upon the heroic generosity and support of caring people and organizations. This is where you can step in and be a hero to countless kids for years to come.
Their skill at creating imaginative, healing, fun, child-friendly rooms for kids going through life-threatening illnesses and diseases has proven to bring hope, joy and emotional healing to kids and families struggling with the day to day realities of chronic illnesses.
Hopefully you will never have to endure the emotional and mental difficulty of a chronically ill child. But, with your generous support for this project, you’ll be a hero to those who are experiencing it, now and in the future.
What makes a hero? It starts with a decision and ends with action. Make no mistake, you become a hero when you decide to act and give your loving support. Thank you!
Room for Joy serves the chronically ill children and their families. This is a segment of the population that is going through something that not a lot of people think about. There's not a lot of top of the mind awareness about what kids like these and their families are going through.
Many of them are isolated and withdrawn from society because of their chronic illnesses. Many are confined to their rooms, most of them don't have friends come over, because they've got a room full of sensitive, if not ugly, equipment.
What Room for Joy does is transform the room from what has often become a scary, boring place into a haven for them... a place that is beautiful enjoyable and reduces stress and helps improve their quality of life in the midst of dealing with their sickness.
The thing that we really need is funds, you know, we need people who can come beside us and support us financially because each room make over costs thousands of dollars.
Not only do we make over the room, we send the family on a local, mini-vacation so they are out of the house foe the two days we need to transform the room. They start on a Friday and then there's a reveal Sunday afternoon.
We do a couple fundraisers during the year, but having ongoing sponsorship and getting our message out there to people who would get behind this is essential to our thriving. Also one of the other things about room for joy does, is it's a faith based organization. At the at the reveal on you know everybody circles up and we pray for the family and for the children.
And I think that's one thing that sets us apart. That's not something that that is overtly pushed to the community, but it's definitely at the core of what we're doing.
I learned of Room For Joy from a client where I work. We donate to their fundraiser every year, and this year I was beyond honored to get to attend! The work they do is amazing and after hearing parent stories, I doubt there was a dry eye in the room. I hope to get invited again next year to support the cause, and in the meantime, I shop Amazon using their link so that Amazon donates to them based on my purchases!
We were on the receiving end of this wonderful organization. Our 5 yr old son Rhett has struggled with vascular malformations since birth, and will continue to battle forward. We are so grateful to Room for Joy for providing an experience we will never forget, and a room that will remind Rhett of the love he has from others and above. We are so blessed this organization even exists, and that we could witness the heart and service of it, motivating us to do the same for others. All the heart eyes and gratitude in the world for RoomforJoy.
I contributed Little Mermaid toys for a room that this amazing organization did for a little girl. They do amazing bedroom makeovers for children who are in their room most of the time.
They change a child’s world in just a weekend! After spending a grueling 10 weeks and 8 surgeries later in the hospital. This little girl just wanted to perform in her dance recital. She has spent up to 65% of her life in the hospital. This group took her passion for dance and turned it into a reality. She can practice anytime even on the days when she’s not feeling her best and can’t leave her home. She loves it everyday and tells her family. Expression on her face says it all!
We have a friend who's daughter with a life threatening illness got a room makeover. It is gorgeous and helped her to feel like her room was an escape not a makeshift hospital room. It lifted her spirits and looks gorgeous.
They are a wonderful group doing amazing work. They have the ability to help a sick child's home life feel like home and not a hospital.
I was lucky enough to be chosen by Tory when I was 17, I had been sick with Ulcerative colitis since I was 9 years old, and had made a decision to have major surgery To remove my colon at 17. This was one of the hardest times of my life, things were pretty dark and then I met Tory and the room for joy team. They not only redid my entire room, they sent my family away for the weekend and I’ll never forget that time we had. At 23 now, everytime I think about what was done for me I’m overcome with gratitude and hope that there amazing people out there like room for joy. I went from spending 9 years sick in my room, a place with bad memories and that I didn’t want to return to after coming home from the hospital, to starting over fresh and new with a new space of my own, created by room for joy. The world is a better place because of room for joy, with one person they help at a time.
This organization is a true blessing to so many children and the transformations they pull off on the room makeovers is astounding to see. I can't imagine the overwhelming joy it brings to the children you help. Thank you Tori, Dwight and everyone thats involved with this fantastic nonprofit.
I’ve been a board member until recently and a donor for years. I’ve had the joy and fun of watching many of the kids and their families return after their weekend away to see their new room, remodeled and decorated according to their desired theme whether Star Wars, or princesses, hi -tech, Pokémon or music. I love what Tory and her volunteers are able to do. What a blessing they are to so many children.
As a volunteer Board Member for Room For Joy, I am truly amazed at the work that is provided to so many kids who are dealing with such difficult circumstances so far beyond what my children have ever had to deal with. What a joy to see their lives brightened by the work of Tory and her volunteers. A huge difference is made for them as they have a place to be comfortable as they hopefully heal from their health issues. Thank you Tory for helping these kids fight their fights.
Room for Joy did my daughters bedroom last December. After fighting cancer and receiving treatment for two and a half years this gave my daughter a much needed boost in energy. This room brought so much joy and it was almost like a symbol of a fresh start. While they worked on the bedroom, they sent our family on a weekend staycation which was also much needed and appreciated. Unfortunately two months later my daughter relapsed. She has now received a bone marrow transplant and we've been away from home since June because of post transplant treatment. All my daughter talks about is how much she misses her room and wants to go back to spend time in it. I can't blame her, this room is awesome. You can tell that Tory, her husband and all the volunteers do this from the heart.
I got involved with this charity about a year ago and have had a couple of opportunities to see them at work. This is a small charity that does amazing work on a very personal level.
Room For Joy is a non-profit that take chronically ill children and makeover their rooms. All the rooms are medically appropriate and take the specific Childs illness in mind as they create the Child's Dream Room.
They come to the house on Friday evening and whisk the family away for a hotel Staycation with Rooms, Meals, and Entertainment all purchased for the family or sponsored by one of the great businesses here in the Valley. They bring the family back on Sunday and the reveal takes place around 4pm.
The rooms are breathtaking and are simply spectacular. The children are the real winners, but we see that the community is drawn together by these renovations. The reveals always involve half the neighborhood and really show the bonds that our community can make if given the opportunity.
I know that there are a bunch of really great charity's that do some really great things. PCH for instance, who chooses the children the receive the rooms we do. I hope that this doesn't downplay any other efforts, but I think that this Charity is one of the very best. It's small, locally oriented and trying to grow. The kind of charity that can really use a little extra help so we can try to help more kids.
Please take a minute to browse through the pics uploaded and know that there might not be a more deserving charity.
Thank you for allowing me to tell a bit about what they do and good luck to all who's hearts are open to help others.

Hi my name is Alejandro Ceballos Duran I am a single parent of a wonderful little girl name Keyla Alexandra Ceballos she was diagnosed with ALL(Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) on June 7 2017 she really likes Little Mermaid.
This is one of the most wonderful organization in phoenix, they really do bring a lot off joy to children with life threatening illnesses and their families.
I can never forget little Trevor. Five years old facing countless hours in the hospital fighting leukemia. Room For Joy built a new bedroom. Removing the flooring and transforming his room into a garage with a drop ceiling and Murphy bed that looked like shelves filled with automotive supplies. The carpenters built a replica of Mader the truck complete with a working headlight and a radiator cap that talked. Little Trevor loved his room. A safe place to rest, to restore calm and peace in his life. Thanks to Room for Joy in bringing hope and a smile to this young boy.
I was first introduced to Room for Joy about 6 years ago. Since that time I have seen incredible rooms that have brought amazing JOY to the child and their families and friends. Each one transforms a room and transforms it to meet the dreams of each child. Each room is unique and special as is the child it is built for.
Room for Joy is a faith based organization that helps chronically ill children and there families to shed a little sun shine in there lives during a not so great time. The rooms that they design for these children are incredible! Some of the rooms are designed to hide any medical equipment these kids may have in there room so as to make them feel more at home. All of these rooms are designed around a theme that the child is interested in, then Tory and her design team go to work to create a virtual wonderland that you would never want to leave!
Amazing organization that helps chronically ill children by providing dream room makeovers. I've personally seen the joy provided to the children and their families that receive these makeovers and how this process can improve the ongoing well being for each of them... Top Notch.
I started working with Room For Joy in 2006, after seeing a piece about them on Good Morning AZ. Working with this great group of people would be reward enough, but the impact RFJ has on the families we help has changed my life. The dedication of Tory and the RFJ gang is something I've never experienced before. There is nothing these folks won't build or create to give the children the best room possible. No matter how many hours have gone into creating a room, the smile on the child's face is more than reward enough!
