My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Room for Joy, Mesa, AZ, USA
I started working with Room For Joy in 2006, after seeing a piece about them on Good Morning AZ. Working with this great group of people would be reward enough, but the impact RFJ has on the families we help has changed my life. The dedication of Tory and the RFJ gang is something I've never experienced before. There is nothing these folks won't build or create to give the children the best room possible. No matter how many hours have gone into creating a room, the smile on the child's face is more than reward enough!

I started out sewing (curtains, pillows, bedding, etc.), but learned to paint murals (very quickly) after working on a couple of rooms. I now belong to the RFJ family, even though I've moved out of state...I'll come back and do more rooms any time I can!
How did this volunteer experience make you feel?
I learned that doing things for others is a reward that no material possession can provide. These families are struggling with issues that most of us (thankfully) cannot fathom, and it's amazing what the impact of a bedroom makeover can have. What is just a few hours of work for us, and on things that usually come easily to us, can give the kids something that no medicine can provide.
