Mission: Theater arts education for children.
Programs: River city theatre company (rctc) provides theatre arts education for youth in school grades 1st thru 12th, in the four-county sacramento metropolitan area by staging two or more full-length musical theatre productions each performing season, with youth as cast members. Cast members receive training and experience in singing, dancing and acting on stage by paid professional artistic staff in front of a paying audience. All youth who register for the production are not turned away; no audition is required, and all who register are in the show as ensemble regardless of experience. However, for the leading and supporting roles an audition is required. In the last fiscal year, rctc awarded ten full or partial scholarships to youth who demonstrated a financial need or financial hardship for the fall 2017 production of seussical. For the spring 2018 productions of the addams family (8th grade & above), and disney's the lion king jr. (8th grade & below), rctc again awarded ten full or partial scholarships. Each full scholarship waives the $300 registration fee and the costume fee, which can range from $60 to up to $150. Rctc averages from 90-140 registered cast members per production. Due to the excellence of rctc's professional artistic staff and the dedicated and talented youth cast members, rctc usually wins at least one elly award in the youth theatre production division each year. An elly award (like a tony award), is promoted and awarded by the sacramento regional theatre alliance--sarta.
