The leadership, staff and volunteer work force at KVIE is unparalleled in professionalism. These folks are passionate about their jobs, many times doing very specialized work under pressing circumstances with far less assistance and compensation than their colleagues in the for-profit world. As a volunteer for many years, I've seen the talent and labor behind the scenes, and it is impressive. The KVIE culture is collegial, thoughtful, kind, friendly and fair. Kudos to KVIE for giving back to its community. I support PBS.

I became hired as a temporary employee, with the opportunity to become permanent with the company. I was hopeful to be able to work for KVIE, so I worked very hard at what I did. Honestly, I expected a fun, easy-going atmosphere, but found myself working with people who seemed miserable for what they were doing. I ignored it- because as a happy-go-lucky person, myself- I wanted to stay positive and get my job done right. I never had any issues in my department, and in fact, I was excelling as I am a very fast and productive learner. I got along with my co-workers just fine- except for Rose Froling who works in HR. She constantly had something negative to say to me everytime she saw me; more specifically, complaining about my attire, stating it was "innapropriate". This was completely bogus information as no one had a problem with my attire. In fact, one day when she complained about an outfit, stating it was "the worst thing I've ever worn", I sent a photo to my recruiter for her opinion. My recruiter found nothing wrong with my outfit. On top of that, I asked when I would be considered for being hired for the position, to find out that all of a sudden, they were "hiring internally." Rose blatantly lied to me, as she made it sound like they weren't going to ever consider me in the first place since I was just a "temp." I called her out on it when I told her that she was the one who stated they wanted to have someone permanent for the position- indicating that if I was good enough- they would keep me on board. She then switched it around, saying that the internal candidates take priority. Well, guess what? They hired 2 people to fill the position- one of which was a volunteer janitor with no previous experience- and another from the outside; a 19 year old college student with no previous experience. Turns out, the 19 year old bailed before she even started. I, personally had over 8 years experience and did excellent in my position. Even the department manager said he wanted to keep me on. Over-all, working for this company, I'd have to say they lack professionalism, morale, and ethics. The company is very poorly run. They could give a crap about their employees and the people that work for them, and they care more about all the money they rake in from the donors and their pledges. No one is really happy there, as I've heard many complaints from the other employees. Its just a sad, sad place to work for. To be lied straight in the face, lacks complete professionalism. If they didn't want me on board, they could've said so. They kept me for 3 months, I did my work for them, and they kicked me to the curb. I see other reviews from volunteers that are positive. They more than likely did not see the inner-workings of the company and how poorly managed it really is. I do not recommend anyone to be employed with this company- unless you're OK with being treated like dirt, disrespected and lied to.

KVIE is a wonderful choice to serve as a volunteer. From behind-the-scenes knowledge of television production, to on-air fundraising, to customer service and entertainment - one can learn a lot and touch the lives of many. The staff are wonderful at guiding the volunteers into just the right job. I highly recomment KVIE!

A great place to volunteer your time. Organized and pregared for you. The paid staff jump right in to make sure you have everything you need to do your job. Noel - the volunteer coordinator - the best of the best. Knows how to recruit and make you feel appreciated when you arrive.

I have always found KVIE staff to be organized, efficient and friendly in both getting me prepared to do the job in question effectively and answering any questions that may come up in the process.

KVIE is committed to viewers and volunteers. Staff always set a positive example to their volunteers. Volunteer opportunities are announced well in advance of events to allow volunteers to arrange their schedules. The station also actively recruits new volunteers and gives a yearly party to celebrate the contributions of current volunteers. Volunteer opportunities are offered for several functions of the station. Being a volunteer makes a person feel they are part of a team and volunteers are always regarded as such by station management.

I gave the 2nd star only because the volunteer coordinator at KVIE is capable, intelligent, and trying to improve the volunteer environment there. 1. Telephone bids during art auctions: Paid staff impatiently snapped out orders, often contradicting each other and/or the "training" instructions. Seemed to be unprofessionally nervous under "live" tv conditions. 2. Special receptions for major donors: Midl-age and older vols were assigned to behind-the-scenes & more menial duties(scooping & hauling ice, serving beverages & dessert), while young girls worked at the registration table & greeting guests. 3. Volunteers had an established and somewhat snooty hierarchy -- not a welcoming experience for new volunteers. I left after 2.5 years.

I have been a volunteer at KVIE since 1977 starting by answering phones during an overnight membership drive moving on to assist at their on air TV annual auction to my current status as a studio captain training and supporting phone bank group that sign up to work quarterly membership drives. I have enjoyed every moment that I have been involved with KVIE. Giving back to your community is a wonderful experience that everyone should participate and for me KVIE has given me my opportunity. The staff there are all wonderful folks who treat all of their volunteers like royalty. They host an annual volunteer recognition dinner and award achievement for their special volunteers. Everyone who volunteers at KVIE is a winner there.

I have volunteered on 4-5 occasions with KVIE;created curriculum support for the Educational Outreach program, assisted with educational mailings to the community schools and volunteered in reception areas for the art auction. I believe KVIE speaks for itself with the programs that are presented and their employees. The employees team build with the volunteers and are very passionate about their community and the resources that are provided by the volunteers. I am a teacher and a Human Resources Professional and because all of my interactions are about "people", I can't say enough about KVIE's culture. KVIE is a very desirable to just be.

I love being able to volunteer with KVIE. It allows for a very flexible schedule. There is no pressure as to the amount of times you are expected to volunteer. I love the station and we (spouse and I) are unable to donate as much as previous years so this is an opportunity to give back. The KVIE staff are great. The other volunteers are fun. There are absolutely no complaints or recommendations to change the stations volunteer opportunity.

I have enjoyed being a volunteer at KVIE. I have helped at concerts, art auctions and donor drives. Each has been interesting and a way to connect to others who enjoy public television, art and music.

Nice staff. Lots of positions needing help but seems like after you sign up for all these positions, all you're ever asked to do is help with the phone bank! Would be nice to be able to help out in other categories besides answering phones.

The staff are extremely helpful in letting we volunteers know what is needed or how best to assist in volunteering. The training for the various positions is more than adequate. I only wish there were more PBS stations in the area like there are in the San Francisco/San Jose viewing area.

I love 6! Shout that out in a crowded room and you may have to explain yourself. But that cuts to the core of what KVIE, Sacramento's public broadcasting station, means to me. I have been an active volunteer for almost 17 years. In that time I've worked on-air during membership drives, as an art auctioneer and hosted a regular spot on one of our locally produced lifestyles programs; I've run camera, served as a studio captain, trained new studio captains and countless phone banks, and worked too many special events and major donor functions to remember. As I've aged and my finances have improved, I've become a major donor myself, and my company is a program underwriter. Perhaps my greatest pride comes from serving two terms on the Community Advisory Board, followed by three years on the Board of Directors. I say all this not to brag about myself, but to demonstrate my knowledge of KVIE on every possible volunteer level. There is no finer non-profit in the state! And California's a Very Big State! After a lifetime of volunteering, I can sincerely say I've never been with any one organization longer, nor more fervently supported their mission with my time and resources. It should also be said I've never worked for an organization who takes better care of their volunteers. Everyone on staff from the President on down knows our names and has an open-door policy for us, recognition is frequent, an annual banquet and other "perks" are just icing on the cake. I'm certainly not saying I do what I do for a free ticket to a concert or another gold bar on my nametag, but it's nice to know I'm appreciated. Most of all, I know that everything I do there makes a difference in my community. Truly, KVIE is not only television worth watching. It's worth supporting with my time and resources!
