Causes: Food, Food Programs
Mission: Rio grande food project (rgfp) sources locally grown, donated, rescued, and purchased foods to provide supplemental and emergency groceries to households facing financial challenge, while also connecting people to community resources and opportunities to maximize limited budgets and reduce and prevent food-insecurity.
Programs: Rgfp provides low-income individuals and family's with up to a week's worth of emergency groceries once a month, and also provides health-catered foods to households facing chronic health conditions on a weekly basis. Rgfp grows fruit and vegatables using a rain catchment system and also reduces local food waste by rescuing thousands of pounds of safe, edible food from local stores which would otherwise be thrown away. In 2017, rgfp distributed over 1. 1 million pounds of food, serving an average of 4,260 people each month. Rgfp also acts as administrator for pnm's good neighbor fund to provide aid to low-income new mexicans paying their electricity bills.
