i am a volunteer ,delivering meals not only do we bring the clients food but we get to check in on them and make sure the are ok..the food we deliver is always good and if it is hot the contaniers we deliver them from keep them hot,the same with the cold meals they stay cold.if someone doesn't answer the door they always check up on them to make sure they are ok.we use new technology to track deliveries.
I love working with Meals on Wheels! Once a week, my friend and I drive around for a couple hours and deliver meals. We arrive masked and inquire about the health of our recipient. They are all so pleased and grateful! NO WONDER! Each meal is especially prepared for each one---diabetic, no meat, or whatever their particular food requirement is. Some get 5 frozen meals. Others get a new, daily hot meal and a cold pack with milk (or no milk), and fruit (or no fruit). These are carefully prepared, labeled and ready for us to deliver. We are given a route to drive. It is available on our laptops or on one provided to us, with an announcer who tells us our route--where and when to turn, etc. It is fun and SO well organized. Yeaaaa! Meals on Wheels!!
I’ve been a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque for 8 months and I’ve had a wonderful experience. All of the clients are extremely grateful for our services and the team keeps everything well coordinated so that everything flows smoothly.
I'm glad I volunteer here! Even with the pandemic, we still manage to deliver meals on a weekly basis (at least) to underpriviliged citizens.
I have worked as an RN for 37 yrs. Elderly people struggle to have enough to eat and many times have no one to support them at home. Meals on Wheels is vital to the survival of so many of our citizens. This is a wonderful organization!
Hello!
This is an awesome great non-profit with a great cause! Not only serving people meals but also a friendly face. Dog and cat food are yet another perk that can be obtained through this program! I used to work for Meals on Wheels up until a year ago. The volunteers are some of the best people I have ever met, and I will forever be thankful I got to work with them and learn from them! So, thank you amazing people for all you do!
However, as an ex-employee, I will have to tell you it is not amazing working for Robin, Soozie and Gabe. The day I was hired by Robin and Soozie, I was told we were a team and we all helped each other. In my two years working at MOW, I never got help from management, even at my busiest. This went for my other co-workers as well. Robin, Soozie and Gabe would often have ‘important’ closed-door meetings during our busiest hours. Also, during my two years at MOW I was harassed by a man, while at work; I asked for help from Robin, Soozie and Gabe but never received it. I never got lunch breaks. At the end of the day there was usually a lot of food waste due to improperly scaled recipes and off number counts. If someone called in for PERSONAL reasons, Soozie would tell the whole kitchen why they were gone that day. Robin said racist and uncalled for comments on multiple occasions. Gabe and Soozie used ingredients from the walk-in for their own wedding and broke the nepotism workers rules on multiple occasions- calling in on the same days, leaving early together for dentist/ doc apps... No one was ever reprimanded for anything I stated above!!
My biggest issue I had working at MOW was their "chain of command". I 100% understand why there is a chain of command and how they are used, but they only work if used properly. Which Soozie and Gabe did not do. And as my direct managers, they were who I went to for my issues. In turn, it is their job to go tell Robin and come up with a solution/ figure something out. For about 3 months, an issue was persisting, and my only option was telling Soozie and Gabe. At the end of the day, I assumed that this issue was being brought up to Robin and would soon be resolved. During these three months, I was tense, but quiet and kept working hard. Until one day I had had enough. The issue was brought to Robins attention. We had to sit down, and she realized Soozie and Gabe weren’t relaying this issue I was having. Robin apologized to me for their actions. After this day, working with Gabe and Soozie became increasingly worse. And I don’t know if they were reprimanded and just taking it out on me or what but that lasted 6 months. Until I got back from vacation, came into work at 5:30am and they all sat me down and fired me. The reason: “We don’t get along.” That was it!
Anyways a year later, I am still in awe that this happened to me. I even wrote about it in my English class last semester and the teacher offered to post it on the UNM website! Pretty cool, I thought! However, I declined because I respect MOW as a whole organization and my paper would not have reflected positively. But anyways, I am thankful, happy and healthy now and I hope everyone at Meals on Wheels is too!
Volunteered in the kitchen until the pandemic prevented that. The professional kitchen staff set me up with simple tasks such as bagging individual milk cartons with single serve cereal boxes. They were always friendly and super organized. Looking forward to volunteering again when the pandemic is finally behind us.
Stellar dedication to serving their clients. Adapting to all issues to ensure their clients receive the benefits and care that is expected and required.
What an awesome organization! They help our family members and friends get the prepared food they need when we can't be there to help them. While they feed those who can't prepare meals for themselves, they eliminate one of the things that worry us. Kudos to Meals on Wheels for taking a little money, stretching it to maximum value, and providing social interaction that is so desperately needed.
I have helped as a volunteer delivering meals and I love working in that capacity. The personnel at MOW are great and have everything ready to go for us drivers. It is very easy to do. I also contribute with a monetary donation to help out where needed. I highly recommend Meals on Wheels!
This organization has a great mission, wonderful volunteers and great leadership to carry out the need. I am very proud to support this cause of helping feed our fellow community members in need.
Thanks Meals on Wheels!
Chris
Meals on Wheels not only delivers food to people in need, but also provides food for their client's pets. Can you imagine not being able to keep your cat or dog because you can't feed it? It would be like having to put your child in an orphanage. What a wonderful group of caring, kind and sweet people it takes to run an organization like Meals on Wheels. I am so thankful there are still people like them in the world.
Following a traumatic accident, I had to have major surgery. Because I was physically unable to walk, drive or stand for long periods following the surgery, I signed up for meal delivery. Th service was amazing. The volunteers delivering my meals were wonderful--each had a good sense of humor and were very caring, always asking how I was feeling and how my recovery was progressing. They arrived with my meal on time every single day. (I am in awe of the coordination required given the broad region they serve.) It was always a bright spot to have that interaction, breaking up the monotony and giving me new energy for the afternoon/evening hours. -- And even more importantly, the food was delicious!
I deeply appreciate Meals on Wheels and the service it provides. The organization reaches individuals in far worse situations than myself, including addressing chronic hunger, serving over 400,000 meals last year. Meals on Wheels truly lives its mission and values, committing to the community it serves. This organization is very special and stands out for its integrity and quality of services.

Meals On Wheels of Albuquerque is phenomenal in its efforts to provide nourishing meals This organization provides real on-the- ground results, particularly for housebound seniors/veterans, Meals on Wheels is funded entirely from private donations. There are no no state or federal funding sources. With 450+ volunteers, it is a true community organization and resource, addressing hunger, nutrition, and quality of life.
I've only volunteered as a driver for MOW for about 6 1/2 months; however, during that time what I've seen is really impressive. The organization is well organized (I've managed not-for-profit organizations for several years) so that folks get the meals ordered for them, drivers get the meals to deliver expeditiously and drivers seem to have a great time delivering (just look at the longevity of drivers!). The meals are great also. I'll keep working with this organization for as long as I'm able to drive. I love this group!!!
I’ve visited the facility and was overwhelmed how much they do for those in need.
It organized and spotless
Also, they serve 600 meals. That 600 people who also receive a safety check
It someone doesn’t answer the door a call gets made to the office and their emergency contact is notifier
My experience with Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque was outstanding. Giving back to the community via this program gave me an opportunity to contribute, but I also took my daughter with me, and she learned the value of volunteerism. Each person we delivered to was so appreciative. They were interested in learning about how we connected with the organization and when they would see us again. You can't put a price on the feeling you get from helping someone by providing a meal, a basic need for everyone.
This non-profit throws away large quantities of food every day. Really a shame for an organization that claims to care about food security in Albuquerque. The Executive Director hired her best friend as Program Director, what a conflict of interest!
I'm so proud and honored to be on the board of this amazing organization. With the help and coordination of over 400 volunteers, over 13,000 meals were served last month to people of various ages and income.
I am always impressed with the efforts made, for the recipients of this home delivered meal service. There is much more than meets the eye from this non profit . With a kind and caring that goes the extra mile.
Helping deliver meals on routes for MoW has been a fun and rewarding experience. The organization is extremely well organized and those who participate make it easy to see that they truly believe in the work they do. I great organization that deserves your support!
It is wonderful to be able to see the joy on the client’s faces when you bring their afternoon meal. Meals on Wheels enriches the lives of their clients by providing food and friendship. They even feed the pets, which is so appreciated by the clients. Nobody goes hungry with Meals on Wheels!
In 1972 my mother and her friend, Bev Geck, attended a women's summit and learned about Meals on Wheels in other states. They came back to Immanuel Presbyterian Church, enlisted some friends and the ok to use the church kitchen. Immediately that group began making 8 meals a day for some elderly homebound folks. Well, the idea caught on. Bev became the first Executive Director, and, later, my mom became the first Volunteer Coordinator, serving as a paid employee then volunteer for over 30 years. My mother passed away this summer, but I'm happy to say I continue the family commitment by driving a route. Now the program has grown from 8 to over 500 meals delivered every day! I love Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque and the wonderful clients who we are privileged to visit with every week.
Hello, I just wanted to say that Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque is a wonderful and much needed service to the community. I myself did not have a great deal of food in my home when I was growing up. Because of meals on wheels at my local park I was able to eat some good food, and the people were always so nice. I still remember their smiles :). Between that and a free lunch program at school was how I got most of my food as a younger kid. Thank you so much Meals on Wheels! I am now a successful engineer, husband, and dad to two wonderful sons! You make a difference! Keep feeding those young kids! It really helps!
It’s a blessing to so many! And a blessing for the volunteers! Our clients are part of our family! Monday mornings are one of my very favorite days.
I am amazed at how many meals are served and how many volunteers share their time to get the meals delivered.
Awesome organization
Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque is the only food delivery nonprofit organization that serves adult populations of any age for any reason. People that cannot prepare their own meals and are homebound. There are some different diets and preparations according to a balanced dietary program. The staff and volunteers are dedicated to serving a vulnerable and often overlooked population!
I have been working with Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque for 3 years. It is a great organization that provides a much needed service to those that are homebound and cannot afford decent meals.
I am a volunteer who drives a route once a week and I am the husband of a volunteer who also volunteers for Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque in many capacities including the Board of Directors. We also are donors to this very deserving nonprofit. The Executive Director is superior and the small staff are seriously dedicated and devoted to her. Still, there is a waiting list for grant funded people who need these services. Join us in assisting the homebound, most of whom are elderly.
I'm proud to serve as one of the many in the army of volunteers for Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque. The staff are a tremendous team who provide so much to the community. The organization prioritizes the mission and finding ways to grow, improve, and be efficient to maximize meals delivered since need greatly exceeds our current capacity. I'm humbled every time I stop to remember the difference we can bring to someone by supporting their health and safety with nutritious meals and friendship.
I am extremely proud to support Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque. They help people of all ages live better lives. They supply food to those that cannot get it on their own. In fact, the meals are geared to meet the individual health needs of the client. The volunteers provide a friendly visit and are very caring. Meals on Wheels does not receive any State or Federal funding. That is why I feel it is so important to tell all those who are able to help support this worthwhile organization about the wonderful job they are doing and the benefits they offer to those in need.
The people you meet and the stories you hear will touch your heart and make you proud to be a part of this organization!
Meals on Wheels continues to impress me. Until a few years ago, I was familiar with the name only, never the mission; scope of work and quite honestly the level of commitment demonstrated by the staff, volunteers, donors and recipients of Meals On Wheels. I am in awe of how many people and now animals Meals on Wheels helps on a daily basis! If it weren't for them, I feel we would have a real problem in our community with our elderly and home bound not getting the nutrition they need to live out their days. Not only that, the volunteers seem to provide solice and build a friendship with the people they deliver to. In some cases, the Meals on Wheels volunteers are the only social interaction the recipients of those meals have on any given day. They not only deliver meals, they deliver nutrition, friendship and hope. A great organization!
I have been volunteering for Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque for over five years through their corporate VIP Program and have been delivering meals on the first Friday of the month since we started. I have been blessed to have met and cared for many wonderful people during this time. As a regular volunteer, you get the opportunity to meet and build relationships with some great people who are often in desperate need for not only the food you bring, but the friendship and time you have to offer them. I can honestly say that I am a much better person for having met and interacted with each and every person I've delivered to over the years. I thank Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque for being there to help all of the new friends I have made over the years. Without MOW and their tireless volunteers, I know many of these friends wouldn't be here today!
40 years ago as a teenager I delivered meals with my Mom and Grandmother in the summers and remember the impact those short visits had for the recipients. While the purpose is to serve a nutritious meal, the friendships that are developed are just as important, and long lasting. Today, there are so many folks who cannot afford a nutritious meal and often have to choose between eating and medication. Meals on Wheels has a program to help this group of folks in our Community. Meals on Wheels is a GREAT organization. We need to make sure they continue serving our Community.
I have been delivering meals on a regular route as a volunteer for the past two years with my wife and two small children. It has been great to see how the clients benefit from a regular warm meal, and for many of them, their faces light up when they get to see our kids. For us, an added benefit is the opportunity to expose our kids to the joys of volunteering and being around people they may not otherwise interact with. Some of our kids' favorite people are the regular clients on our MOW route. MOW of Albuquerque provides a great service to these folks.
I am a strong supporter of Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque. Not only do they help ALL persons that can't get out of their homes, but they also provide food for their pets. All this is done without any cost to the recipient. Most, if not all the deliveries are done by volunteers and they operate entirely on donations.
I have worked for many years for a nonprofit who provided housing for low-income elderly. Retired now, it is my pleasure to volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque; I have been doing so for the past three years. My husband and I deliver meals on a regular Wednesday route. It is the best feeling in the world to be greated by a smiling face, so grateful not only for the delicious meal but for the friendly visit. Along with over 200+ volunteers we deliver over 500 meals a day Monday through Friday. Besides this duty, I also serve on the Board of Directors as well as on various committees. We have a fabulous, engaged Board supporting a fantastic Executive Director. Mow of ABQ continues to grow and with the help of generous donors, private grants and fundraising efforts, we look forward to being able to serve more and more of the area's needy... because unfortunately there are too many, and many are on our waiting list.
