I am a 39 years old RB survival. RBI is an organization that gives support to families, and information about prevention, and research. I wish such an organization existed for my parents when they had to go through this experience with me. RBI is a wonderful organization filled with passionate people wanting to help others and educate everyone about this awful disease that affect the vision and lives of children everywhere.
My daughter Emma is a beautiful 12 year old survivor of infant eye cancer in both eyes. Because we were able to get her diagnosed quickly and get her care at CHLA with Dr. Linn Murphree and the rest of the team INCLUDING NANCY MANSFIELD AND THE INSTITUTE FOR FAMILIES, Emma has been able to overcome the challenges in her young life -- 33 surgeries/laser/chemo and an enucleation. She still has good vision in her right eye and no one can even tell her other eye is a prosthetic! This challenge has only served to make her and our family stronger. Our determination has always been - because Emma came into this world with this- the world will be a better place because of it. I'd like to think that she and hopefully all of us who are trying to turn this poison into medicine are living up to that pledge. Thank you to all who support RBI and all the work they are doing! never give up! sincerely, Matthew Ashford
Our child was diagnosed with bi-lateral RetinoBlastoma at 19 months of age. She also had optic nerve invasion, so had 5 intense rounds of Chemo and her left eye removed. Without the support of R. B International then and since, This would have been a far worse situation. Children should not have to die from this disease and R.B. International is at the forefront of research to make sure this doesn't happen.
RBI has tirelessley worked to change the face of retinoblastoma since its inception. Please award this charity which will in turn help these wonderful children internationally.
We knew something wasn't right but at 2.5 months of age, our daughter Samantha was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma (right eye, spontaneous type) and had her eye removed at 3 months of age. If it weren't for Retinoblastoma International's website and support resources, we wouldn't have been able to get the help and support we did in order to make the smartest choices for our baby girl!
My cousin's baby is 2 years old. She is a cancer patient. Something just doesn't sound right about that. Nothing can more devastating than loosing a child, but loosing a child that could have been saved has she been diagnosed in time, or has there been funding available to find a cure. We must find prevention or cure to pediatric cancer. Any organization that sets these as its soul and purpose is vital! Our children are everything! They are our life, love and future. We must to EVERYTHING to keep them safe and healthy!
RBI has affected my friends and also my favorite basketball team and possibly future families. Awareness of screening procedures is knowledge that can lead to powerful results-the saving of a life or someone's eyesight. We must broaden the network of awareness so that we overcome the ill effects of this disease.
my daughter was dx with this rare cancer- her life was saved by early detection- every new born should have a eye exam
Retinoblastoma International(RBI) is an organization with a clear vision of what it wants to accomplish. Of course that is a world without this terrible disease. It's important to know that RBI has specific ongoing efforts to increase awareness of this cancer and to help those afflicted with it receive treatment. The organization needs further funding to optimize our efforts. Every day I see children and adult survivors of Retinoblastoma and could not imagine a world without our organization. I know so many patients and families who praise the work being done and support its very worthy cause.
This organization is doing very important work to help get the word out on early detection. What they are doing can help the lives of many children and their loved ones.
They are doing very important things. Without their work, a lot of children might lose their eyelight or even their lives due to lack of information about Retinblastoma. They are needed to help those children who are suffering from Retinblastoma! And I'm very glad that I can do something for them to continue their wonderful action.
I became aware through the Ashford family who are parents of a child who survived RB. How they dealt with the disease touched my life deeply. Prior to that I didn't even know RB existed. Their whole family which also included an older sister, was at a large world peace lay organization (SGI-USA) event where people spoke about how their practice of Buddhism helped them overcome a life or death situation with their child with RB and how it helped them not be defeated. It was awe inspiring.
I have a family member who was treated for Retinoblastoma over 20 years ago when not many people (or even doctors) knew much about this disease. Like so many rare cancers, the name of the game is early detection, and Retinoblastoma International is leading the effort across the country to educate parents and healthcare professionals about the importance of early and regular eye exams. In addition to raising awareness, the organization is making significant contributions to important research and legislative initiatives.
When a family receives the challenging news of their child being diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, RBI is the non-profit organization to contact. RBI members support each other not only with guidance and understanding, but RBI has very useful resources and a pool of professionals in the field to draw from. I wish I would have contacted RBI much earlier in our journey through childhood cancer. I would have been better informed and better equipped. RBI has made a difference in so many lives and will continue to strive for excellence.
Through the creative and commited work of the people associated with Retinoblastoma International, children's lives have been saved. This group of parents and professionals strives to support important research, promote awareness and provide educational materials. Donations to this non profit go directly into supporting their mission to fight the devastating effects of retinoblastoma world wide.
I am a proud supporter of Retinoblastoma International, and am impressed by the work that they do. Their vision is of a world in which retinoblastoma no longer destroys the vision or takes the life of any child, and they aim to fulfill this mission through promoting awareness, early detection, and research. Their dedication to helping children and their families is inspiring, and I invite everyone to take a closer look at this worthwhile organization.
