My daughter Emma is a beautiful 12 year old survivor of infant eye cancer in both eyes. Because we were able to get her diagnosed quickly and get her care at CHLA with Dr. Linn Murphree and the rest of the team INCLUDING NANCY MANSFIELD AND THE INSTITUTE FOR FAMILIES, Emma has been able to overcome the challenges in her young life -- 33 surgeries/laser/chemo and an enucleation. She still has good vision in her right eye and no one can even tell her other eye is a prosthetic! This challenge has only served to make her and our family stronger. Our determination has always been - because Emma came into this world with this- the world will be a better place because of it. I'd like to think that she and hopefully all of us who are trying to turn this poison into medicine are living up to that pledge.
