Mission:
Slought Foundation (‘Sl-aw-t’) is a non-profit organization based in Philadelphia that engages the public in dialogue about cultural and socio-political change. We aspire to move beyond preservation or display, engaging the public in intimate dialogue about topical issues and shared concerns. In doing so, we collaborate with a range of partners including artists, communities, universities, and governments to encourage cultural inclusiveness and social activism.
Programs: Our Philadelphia facility opened in October 2002 adjacent to the University of Pennsylvania, official partner on 40th Street Arts Corridor development. We have staged and recorded over 10 exhibitions and one hundred live events featuring prominent theorists, architects, visual artists and poets. Our events include film premiers, public lectures and concerts. Our online audio repository includes over 100 hours of recordings from this past events, and 50 hours of archival recordings from the 1960s. Our publishing division releases at least two new edited books each year.
