Mission: Pro Musica Rara is a period-instrument chamber music ensemble dedicated to spirited performances of Baroque, Classical and early Romantic repertoire. Using original or replica instruments and historically-informed interpretive style, it entertains as well as educates its audiences.
Programs: Pro Musica Rara was founded by Baltimore Symphony musicians and members of the local business community in 1974. Since then it has presented over 140 concerts in annual subscription series. Audiences come from the greater Baltimore area, the greater Washington, D.C. area, and Maryland?s Eastern Shore. Core players include Baltimore symphony members, Peabody Conservatory faculty and graduates, and others from throughout the Eastern Seaboard, Virginia to Maine. Guest artists are invited for their distinction and for the opportunities they offer the group to expand its repertory. In addition, young professional musicians have been encouraged by invitations to play with the group.
