The Primate Rescue Center is a great nonprofit because they fulfill their mission wholeheartedly and effectively relying on private funding. A small staff of skilled and caring individuals work diligently with volunteer assistants. As a donor and volunteer, I know that the PRC is making a significant difference in the world and I committed to supporting them for the long term.
We have been supporters since 1996 and can think of no more worthwhile nonprofit to support. We are also part of the “primate pals” program which enabled us to “adopt” and help support a specific primate. This has give us the opportunity to develop a connection that would have otherwise not be possible. We highly recommend PRC!
I have been a donor for many years and the work that the employees and volunteers do at this sanctuary is beyond awesome! I've been to many of the Open Houses and the grounds, the animals, the whole operation is so well managed, the grounds are kept so clean and neat and the welfare of the animals is the absolute top priority! I just wish more people knew about this place, so that they could see what an impact they are making on the animal's lives! So thankful that we have them right here in our own backyard!
I volunteered for PRC full time for a summer in 2012 and was so impressed. Since then I have continued to keep PRC at the top of my donation list. I LOVE that PRC prioritizes the health and well being of their primates over all else. This truly is a place of peaceful sanctuary, not a place for people to come visit.
Spent part of a summer here and lived on site as a volunteer. Such a beautiful sanctuary for so many deserving primates.
The PRC is a fantastic organization. It's clear that the welfare of the primates in their care is always their top priority, and receiving bthe updates they send about those primates is something our daughter always looks forward to.
The Primate Rescue Center (PRC) is a wonderful organization devoted to the care of approximately 50 primates at their facility in Kentucky. The PRC works diligently to make the public aware of the perils associated with the breeding and selling of primates around the world. The PRC has opened our eyes to the inhumane treatment that primates are often subjected to when they are kept as pets, used as research animals, or housed in wild animal facilities without proper stimulation or habitats. My wife and I have enjoyed being a PRC Primate Pal for Maggie, a Crested Black Macaque. The PRC does a great job of keeping us up to date on Maggie’s well-being. We have been extremely impressed by the professional manner in which the PRC communicates with its supporters. My wife and I highly recommend that other people concerned with the well-being of animals consider supporting the outstanding efforts of the PRC.
I love what the primate rescue center does for rescued primates! After working a volunteer event I knew I wanted to sponsor a primate and continue to make a difference on a monthly basis! I receive updates each month from the rescue center regarding the primate I have sponsored and even enjoy purchasing toys and other gifts for my primate each Christmas. The primate rescue center has made a huge difference in the lives of each and every primate they have rescued and cared for!
My daughter has volunteered at PRC in the past. The love and level of care they provide is just heartwarming. Great staff. Great facility, Great organization.
I am a Primate Pal for the lovely chimpanzee Martina, and have sponsored Zulu, another chimpanzee, as a gift for a friend. I have found PRC to be incredibly well-run and very good at reaching out to supporters. The time I visited, I saw a tidy and competently run facility adhering to high standards. I love all of the enrichment activities for the primates. I really love it when they put out a call to Primate Pals for things like peanut butter! It's easy to go to the store, and fun to think about the primates eating the peanut butter you send them. Or playing with toys, or whatever it is you want to donate. The organization's commitment to the top sanctuary protocols and standards is exemplary. I am proud of these folks, and so happy to be affiliated with them.
I learned of Primate Rescue Center several years ago when, as a journalist, I interviewed the director for a radio story. I was so taken with the commitment and professionalism of the place. Always, the primates come first. They are not handled by humans, except as necessary for their health. In other words, they are allowed to be as wild as they can be, within safe bounds. To think that we have this amazing sanctuary here in a rural part of Kentucky makes me very proud. No longer a journalist, I now support the center as much as I can.
I worked with a colony of monkeys and was limited on how much I could do outside of policy with them since they were on a facility. I wanted to do more so I found this sanctuary and became a primate pal of Rodney and it brings me so much joy to get newsletters and pictures of my chimp. They have even contacted me when I had to switch my checking account info and we chatted about how he was doing. They are so personal and care so much about these animals. They are doing great work and really make those animals priority!
Primate Rescue Center is an amazing organization run by truly wonderful, amazing people who genuinely care about their primate residents. They are the real deal when it comes to compassion, empathy, dedication, and integrity. The animals always come first, and they are all so deeply loved and cared for. I’ve had the privilege of working with and visiting the center a few times, and I hold Eileen and the entire crew in the absolute highest of regards!
The Primate Rescue Center is truly an inspirational nonprofit. They work tirelessly to provide the primates in their care with the safe haven they deserve. The animals wellbeing is the top priority, and 100% of all donations go towards their care. I had the opportunity to intern and volunteer at the PRC, and experience first hand the incredible cause that they serve. The PRC changed my life, and they change the life of each primate resident for the better. After the hardships these animals have been through, the PRC is a necessary forever home dedicated to their health and happiness.
I have volunteered at the Primate Rescue Center for over 8 years. I am so proud of the outstanding sanctuary they have created for the chimps and monkeys. They steadfastly adhere to their mission statement and their commitment to providing the best possible life in captivity for these primates. PRC is a model of “quality of care” in the areas of nutrition, vet care, enrichment, staff training, cleanliness, enclosures and their love for these marvelous beings. The staff and volunteers work tirelessly to put the needs of the primates first, because this is their home.
I have volunteered for this organization, and I am so glad I did! They do incredible work supporting our primate friends. The director is tireless in her efforts to create better lives for the monkeys and chimps that have been rescued. The staff are incredible -- hard workers with positive attitudes. And of course, it is great fun being around the non-human primates. I would recommend this organization to anyone who is considering volunteering.
Never in my life have I met a team that is all so driven to do one thing so meaningful and selfless. The amount of time, energy, love and care that comes from the amazing caregivers that volunteer their time there is inspiring. It’s what makes me so proud to be on a team so filled with kindness. They do all they can to give these beautiful animals the absolute best life they can. It truthfully inspires me everytime I come around.
This is a wonderful place for primates to be taken care of for the rest of their lives. All of the primates are rescue animals from different backgrounds that need a safe and secure place to live. They cannot be released into the wild, because they have spent their lives behind bars or in small dwellings that humans created.
This rescue center is awesome, and they really take great care of all of the primates. The staff are wonderful, too.
This is one of my favorite non-profits, and the help they provide for primates are just absolutely incredible! They house a huge variety of primate species, and not only provide the right housing, but make sure all of their needs are met individually. These primates have been through torture that none of us coukd even begin to fathom. This place helps them and gives them a place to go, as they are not able to survive in the wild, through no fault of their own. They also focus on education of not only how they got there, but education about each different species and why we as people should care. I would rate it a hundred stars if I could!
A superbly managed and professional organization with the utmost respect for the animals. The staff and volunteers work tirelessly to maintain and promote the welfare and well being of the animals served.
I ❤️ Primate Rescue Center! I love supporting such an amazing organization! I look forward to the annual member event! I enjoy seeing every primate thriving in an absolute wonderful setting. The staff and volunteers are top notch!
What a wonderful place! They provide sanctuary for primates (and the odd goat) who are unable to be returned to the wild. They only allow visitors once a year (their sponsors), and don’t treat their primate charges like a sideshow to raise money. Quality organization!!
I donate every chance I get. These primates are a wonderful source of enjoyment for people who love them. PLEASE DONATE to keep these great sites going!!
I have witnessed firsthand the wonderful work that the Private Rescue Center is doing to save and care for these beautiful primates. They are dedicated to making their lives better. It was inspiring to see how much they love the primates.
The Primate Rescue Center is such a special non profit organization. My husband was first introduced to them approximately 20 years ago. He was invited to their one time a year open house and took me with him. It is an amazing place, all the volunteers and workers are so caring to all the primates. From learning how they feed, house and care for them was just heartwarming. All areas are clean and conducive to the betterment of the primates living. It is fascinating to watch how they play and interact with each other in this safe environment. These animals deserve a safe and, as natural as can be, place to live out the rest of their lives. Thanks to the Miller's and the staff who have the heart to continue and maintain the Primate Center.
The Primate Rescue Center is an incredible sanctuary that cares so deeply about all of the primates (human and non-human) that walk through the door.
I interned at PRC back in 2015. It is the best ran sanctuary I have ever had the pleasure to be a part of. The staff cares so deeply and purely for each primate they care for. It was a dream to be a part of their mission, and I will for years and years to come.
A wonderful facility. Great care for the animals they serve.
Love this group. They have made a great life for primates that have been abused, neglected and used as lab animals. I have toured their grounds and the animals seem happy and healthy. I shudder to think of the life these sweet souls would have without the PRC.
The PRC is an amazing place that provides a home, and a second chance for primates who have been rescued from labs and/or the pet trade. They provide top notch care, and give these primates wonderful lives.
Giving Support to these beautiful animals in any way I can is my favorite thing to do. The amount of love their caretakers give them is extordinary and it’s so obvious each one of them loves doing it.
I love the care and attention they give their primates. It means a lot to see that level of attention.
Love this place!! Every worker and volunteer is so passionate about giving the primates the life they deserve!
After working in biomedical research with primates and seeing how these beautiful creatures lives were affected, I am forever grateful for the Primate Rescue Center. I can sleep better now knowing that some of them made it to a safe haven. I see photos of chimpanzees playing in kiddy pools and having birthday parties. These animals sacrificed so much and deserve this care.
Thank you Primate Rescue Center.
I've started volunteering with the PRC and the work they do is amazing! They are a very well-run facility and the primates are very well taken care of.
The PRC welcomed me in and let me feel like a part of the team caring for these beautiful primates. Their level of care resembles high quality zoos I've been involved with in the past. They certainly deserve recognition in their efforts in rescuing sick, abused, or neglected primates.
The Primate Rescue Center is an incredible sanctuary for chimpanzees, a variety of monkeys and even goats and donkeys. The staff is small but extremely dedicated and provide excellent care to all the animals who are lucky enough to call the PRC home. They do a wonderful job providing daily enrichment, fresh browse and healthy nutritious meals. As a former volunteer I have seen their dedication first hand and can not speak highly enough about the Primate Rescue Center. I truly appreciate the care they provide for the animals.
The Primate Rescue Center is an incredible organization doing amazing work for primates. It's a home for animals who needed a second chance after an unfortunate start in life, but now they receive an exceptionally high level of care from dedicated professionals committed to seeing the end of the primate pet trade, lab testing, and use of primates in entertainment. They are making a difference.
The Primate Rescue Center in Nicholasville, KY exemplifies what it means to truly care for animals. The caregiving staff have shown that the health, safety and quality of life of the residents is of the upmost importance. The PRC also has a wonderful internship program for college students that educates the next generation about how to care for rescued animals appropriately.
I'm currently an intern for the PRC and have had the privilege to work alongside the care staff for the past 3 months. They do everything in their power to make sure that all of the residents are happy and healthy, and are always finding new ways to better the quality of life for each of the primates. I am so thankful that the primates who came from such difficult backgrounds get to live out the rest of their lives in such a beautiful and positive environment.
I volunteer weekly at the Primate Rescue Center and from my very first day on-site for orientation I could see how well the animals are loved and cared for. The staff is so passionate about their work. So many of the primates came from bad situations but every caregiver, volunteer and intern works so hard to provide the residents with a safe, happy and stable environment that they can truly call home. I have really enjoyed getting to know all of the animals at the sanctuary and participating in making them meals and fun enrichment. It feels so good to be able to contribute to such a wonderful cause in such a personal way.
I've been involved with the PRC since 2009 when I started volunteering there. It's a peaceful sanctuary space that is home to many monkeys, several chimpanzees, a dog, goats, and peacocks. The small staff works tirelessly with the help of volunteers and interns not just to provide meals and basic care for the animals but to really make their lives wonderful. I have observed how much thought is put into enrichment and how the staff cater to each resident's needs and preferences. We all hope that one day sanctuaries like the PRC will no longer be needed, but until we humans get our acts together and learn that monkeys and chimps are not pets and have no place in laboratories, I'm grateful that the PRC exists as the best possible place for animals to live out their lives.
I was so lucky to volunteer at the Primate Rescue Center in 2009 and 2010 while living in Cincinnati, Ohio. This place is so great that I used to drive two hours and change each way just to spend time there! The caretakers are very committed, and I've seen just how far they can stretch their resources to make sure the monkeys and chimps in their care have all that they need. It's an expensive undertaking to run a center like this, and yet we need more of them across the country. Everyone is firmly committed to educating the public about the fact that monkeys and chimps do not make good pets. That education - and that understanding - are the only ways in which we are ever going to stop the trade in wild animals. For anyone who seeks to understand one of the reasons why a place like Primate Rescue exists, I highly recommend reading _Animal Underworld_ by Alan Green. I live in New England now, but I look forward to visiting the PRC again soon. It's a place that leaves its mark on all who are lucky to be a part of it.
This place gives hope to all primate lovers. What a wonderful little paradise on the middle of nowhere that provides such great care to their residents. Everyone involved has so much passion and love for the animals and run this nonprofit facility with perfection.
I have been a volunteer for the Primate Rescue Center for 4 years. It is superbly run . You can tell by how happy the primates are, how joyful the staff and volunteers are and how peaceful and restorative the environment is. Every aspect meets the most stringent definition of the word SANCTUARY. Every donation no matter how small or large ,time, cash, or item is greatly appreciated and always needed and used. There couldn't be a more honorable non profit.
I've been a long-time supporter of the PRC and the work they do, but my recent experience as an on-site volunteer has brought it all so much closer. Getting breakfast ready for the chimps and watching them dig into it is something I look forward to each week. The staff is amazing and treats me like family. I hope to stay involved for many years to come!
The Primate Rescue Center is one of the best nonprofit organizations that I have had the pleasure of working with. The care staff, board of directors and other volunteers are very passionate about creating the best environment for the primates onsite. I was truly blown away by their level of dedication to the primates.
The Primate Rescue Center is an amazing organization that provides top notch care to all of their residents! They go above and beyond to ensure that every animal in their care has the best life possible.
I have volunteered with the Primate Rescue Center for several years, both on-site and off, and I can't say enough about the great facilities and the care the primates get. I adore the primates and the staff are hands down some of my favorite beings on the planet. The work they are doing here is important and amazing and I'm proud to support them.

I have been a volunteer here for a number of years. Faithful devotion to the wellbeing of the residents is evident the moment you see the sanctuary. The staff is a group of professional, caring and dedicated people who truly create a safe haven and home for for these primates. I am proud to be a volunteer.
I was introduced to the PRC in June of 2015 when I was accepted for a spot in their summer internship program. I applied for the internship to fulfill a co-op credit that I needed for my undergrad degree in Animal Studies. However, from the start I knew that my experience at the PRC would mean much more to me than a college credit. Not only did the workers fully involve me, along with the other interns, in all of the daily routines--including feeding, cleaning, enrichment and other activities that sporadically came about--they really welcomed and encouraged me.
Of course, working with the primates was the best part of it all. With 11 chimpanzees and nearly 50 smaller apes and monkeys on the facility, it was amazing to observe how each resident differed. Having never worked in a facility with exotic animals before, I was completely fascinated. I mostly became familiar with the chimpanzees because they are housed close to where the interns work. During my time there, I observed many primate behaviors such as grooming and hooting, and I also learned about the dominance pattern within the group. Seeing these behaviors first-hand definitely sparked an interest in primates within me, and I plan to continue researching them.
My experience at the PRC benefited me in so many ways. Obviously, I got some first-hand experience with primates and learned a lot about them. I also, in turn, learned a lot about myself and what I would like to do with my career after college. When I tell people that I am an animal studies major, their first response is usually, "Really...what jobs can you get with that?" The workers at the PRC made me feel like there is hope for my degree, and reassured me that there are jobs out there for people who have an interest in animals. My internship at the PRC reassured my desire to work at a rehabilitation facility for exotic animals after I graduate. I wouldn't trade my time at the PRC for anything, and I'm so glad that such a wonderful non-profit exists so close to home.
THIS IS A GREAT AND IMPORTANT CHARITY TO SUPPORT, THE RESCUED CHIMPANZEE HAVE COME FROM LABS WHERE THEY HAVE SPENT YEARS BEING ABUSED FOR MANKINDS BENEFIT, PRIMATE RESCUE CENTER LOOK AFTER THESE CHIMPS AND HELP THEM TO HAVE A MORE HAPPIER LIFE. I GET REGULAR UPDATES AND LOTS OF IMFORMATION ON THE CHIMPS, DAY TO DAY LIVING, BIRTHDAYS AND CELEBRATIONS.
Great work at taking care of some beautiful creatures. I always enjoy the yearly supporter visitation day, too.
Ten years ago, I lived and volunteered at the PRC for almost two months. I saw firsthand how well the primates there are treated. Cages are regularly cleaned, chow is always supplemented with fresh fruits and vegetables and enrichment is always provided. Moreover, great care is taken to ensure the safety not only of the primates but of their human caretakers as well. I have been a supporter of the PRC ever since because I know my charitable donations are being well spent!
The PRC is one of the best nonprofit organization I've ever seen. They are VERY dedicated to the well-being and happiness of their rescued residents. They utilize their funds for the primates not high salaries. They keep employees down to a bare minimum and use volunteers extensively. The founders even add their own funds as needed to care for the primates. They are perpetual advocates for the well-being & ethical treatment of all primates. Enough words cannot be said about this organization!!!
I Do A Lot Of Volunteering For A Lot Of Organizations. I Have Never Encountered An Executive Staff Before That Eats, Lives & Breathes Their Organization (And The Support Of Others That do Similar Work) Like ThIs One Does. Total Dedication Is An Understatement! They Are Even Mindful Of Human Impact On Their Residents So Much That They Only Open Their Doors Once A Year For A Private, Invitation-Only Fundraiser In Order To minimalize Stress On Their Primates. This Facility, Like No Other That I Have Ever Encountered (Human Or Animal Oriented), Puts The Health, Comfort, Well-Being And Happiness Of Souls Under Their Care Above All Else. April Is Sooooo Dedicated That She Even Networks With Other Primate Facilities To Find Homes For Abused Or Neglected Primates Across The Nation. She Is An Advocate For Primates 24/7/365. She Is Dedicated Not Only To The Animals ThemSelves But To The Education Of The Public That Primates Are Not Domesticated Pets In An Effort To Prevent Future Need For Rescue. This Facility Is Ever Mindful Of The Safety Of Their PrIMates And Staff. Preservation Of Quality Of Life Is A Definite Priority Here. I Can't Say Enough About The Quality Of This Facility!!!
Excellent steward of financial resources. Cares for amazing primates.
I have had the opportunity to visit the PRC on members day. It is a well taken care of community of primates. All the staff is knowledgeable and very caring. The primates and monkeys are happy and care free. It is obvious that they are well cared for and respected. The various housing for them are neat and clean. April and her staff are top notch!
The Primate Rescue Center is a star - they know what they're doing and they do it well. The staff has heart, compassion and the smarts to give rescued primates the very best possible sanctuary life. They change the lives of so many deserving animals. It's a beautiful thing.
This sanctuary is a leader due to its' history of making real change in the animal advocacy world. I am honored to be affiliated with the Primate Rescue Center, and I hope to be working with them for many more years to come.
This organization is one of the best out there. Everything they do is for the benefit of their primate residents. It is heartwarming to see these animals, who have often been through much trauma, live out the rest of their lives in peace, comfort, and while getting the physical and mental stimulation they need. I also admire how the PRC remains involved and active in helping to change the legal and cultural issues that cause sanctuaries to be needed in the first place. The PRC is a prime example of a true animal advocacy organization.
Outstanding non-profit for which I proudly volunteer. There is a shared kindred spirit and devotion to the daily care of animals that desperately needed rescued and desperately needed a home. This organization is also eager to educate the community so everyone can make a difference in primate lives.
When I retired from another nonprofit, the Primate Rescue Center was where I chose to volunteer. I have been volunteering now for almost 2 years, once a week. This center is a wonderful place to be ! The folks at the Center have their priorities in order with the care of the primates being the number one duty of everyone, staff and volunteer. They are very caring with the volunteers as well as the animals, training volunteers for all duties needed. I have always had a love for primates and have learned so much from observing them! I feel fortunate to have this opportunity right in my back yard !
