Mission: Portal exists to empower and transform lives of impoverished people in developing countries by developing and providing transportation, tools, and education necessary to realize sustainable incomes.
Programs: In 2017 portals work remained focused on bringing portal cargo bikes to entrepreneurs in nepal, and helping people rebuild as they recover from nepals 2015 earthquake. In 2017 portal finally launched the portal cargo bike in nepal. Despite numerous and prolonged logistical challenges, portal was able to bring these bicycles to market in late september. By the end of the year, we saw 27 bicycles on the streets of kathmandu, mitigating pollution & traffic, and empowering entrepreneurs. In preparation for the delivery of these bicycles, we provided employment to 14 nepali staff, training our production team in bicycle assembly, wheel building, and repair. In a country with an unemployment rate of 46%, providing local employment makes an incredible difference. In 2017 our work to help rebuild nepal continued. We supported our team in nepal as they managed the production of 33 structures for people recovering from the earthquake. These structures were deployed by 9 partner organizations who received training and assembly support from the portal team. These structures became homes, community centers, libraries, schools, and places of worship. We are proud to support the reconstruction of nepali communities, helping children get back to school, parents get back to work, and life get back to normal. We are honored to support and empower people in nepal as they work to overcome poverty and rebuild their lives following the 2015 earthquake. Our sincerest thanks to all of our amazing friends and donors who make our work possible. Thank you
