Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Art Museums, Arts & Culture, Arts Education, Visual Arts

Mission: The Port Aransas Art Center is a community of artists and art patrons who value art and who are dedicated to fostering and supporting the creative process that is art. The Center provides time, space, resources and art education for an ever-increasing audience. The Port Aransas Art Center is solely supported by charitable donations, member artist sales in the gift shop, and art classes for all age groups.

Results: One of our many achievements is the construction of a spacious new facility to house the Port Aransas Art Center. Opened in late summer, 2017, the new building has received rave reviews.

Target demographics: people of all ages and backgrounds, residents and visitors alike

Geographic areas served: Nueces County, Texas

Programs: art classes taught by expert instructors (and for all ages and experience levels), workshops (more extensive art classes), the sale of works of art by artists in our gift shop, art exhibitions (including exhibitions by students of the Port Aransas Independent School District), and a wide variety of special events held year round that help foster an appreciation of the arts, and that help build community and support.

The Port Aransas Art Center is a little jewel in a community that comes together in the tough times and laughs together in the good times. "PortA," historically a fishing town, has attracted creative talents that span the spectrum of arts because of its natural beauty and iconic beachy vibe. The Art Center represents that essence. It offers a place to work for artists in residence and to its visitors it is a quiet, soul-filling respite from the beach scene. The Port Aransas Art Center offers classes for children and adults, exhibits and social gatherings.

The Port Aransas Art Center is a huge asset for Port Aransas. As a new member artist I have been welcomed with open arms. These people have a habit of saying 'YES!' to life. It is an honor and a privilege to be part of this amazing community asset. So many many wonderful events and opportunities open up to all who enter the circle of friendship offered there.

This is a little jewel in Port Aransas. The wonderful art is awesome...the center is so welcoming to all who come thru the doors. The monthly exhibits are inspiring and the First Friday which showcases a new exhibit each month is so much fun. Music...food...dancing...and welcome to all whether you are a regular local or a winter Texan or a first time visitor. A variety of classes for all levels are available whether you are a newcomer to the art experience or an accomplished artist.

I am so proud to be associated with The Port Aransas Art Center. It has the most dedicated volunteers and board members. It is truly a jewel in our community and displays a wonderful collection of art for sale. Fun and informative classes are held on a regular basis. These classes are for kids and adults, experienced and novice artists will find something to suit there fancy. Our new building survived Hurricane Harvey and was used as a much needed outreach and meeting place for the community in its aftermath. When in town be sure and check us out.

I enjoy visiting the PAAC every visit to beautiful Port A to view the work of local artist. There is always something new to thrill my eyes. The center is wonderfully arranged to showcase the works and the staff is always friendly and helpful. PAAC is one of the most active, vibrant, open-hearted and open-minded, and PROFESSIONAL non-profits I have ever seen, dedicated to the arts. Even though they foster mostly graphic artists, they have been generous enough to put my haiku-and-photographs book about the Coastal Bend on their shelves. I love dropping by during our annual trip to the coast, to see how the center is doing. And their resilience after Hurricane Harvey was awe-inspiring! The way the community came together to help them recover was astounding, and inspirational, to see. This is a jewel of the Coastal Bend, and I tell all my friends to be sure to go to Port A and check out the beautiful new facility.

The Port Aransas Art Center has a beautiful new building that made it through Hurricane Harvey. That left us very impressed by their facilities. The art on display is well done and shows that the local talent loves the beach, birds, and fish. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The Port Aransas Art Center has a beautiful new home after 22 years in business. The Art Center features a monthly exhibit and has a huge gallery and classrooms. It is well worth a visit from anyone who comes to Port Aransas. It is on the main street, Alister, and is easily recognized by its bright turquoise exterior and the beautifully landscaped yard around. I think you will enjoy every aspect of this unique Art Center. Also the First Friday of every month, there is a Artist Reception with wine, food and live music by local musicians. There is no charge and it is open to everyone. 5:30pm to 7:30pm. These receptions are the Art Center's way of saying "thank you" to the community and area and the receptions were really appreciated by weary Hurricane Harvey victims. They added a note of normalcy in a world of debris.

Our family had the privilege of visiting the Port Aransas Art Center, and we were in awe of the beautiful paintings, stained glass, pottery, sculptures, and more that were exhibited. The staff was very friendly and inviting, and we felt free to wander and enjoy the beautiful work that fills the center, taking as much time as we wanted to spend. I can't say enough about the immense talent of the artists whose work is on display--it's all simply amazing!

The building itself is gorgeous, and it is hard to believe that it withstood hurricane Harvey with so little impact. The gift shop area is well organized, and offers many beautiful things for collectors, home decor, gifts, or trip mementos.

I did not know there was such a beautiful Art Center in Port Aransas until shortly before our visit, and I can assure you, we will be back for more visits whenever possible. It's a truly beautiful, fascinating place to visit!

The First Friday event that the Art Center hosts is one-of-a-kind. The majority of the community comes together to enjoy hors d'oeuvres, socializing with friends, and of course, enjoy the artwork from local talents. I highly recommend attending First Friday next time you're in town, as it provides a great way to meet others in the community and support a worthy local organization.

I travel to Port Aransas from my home in Ingleside on a regular basis. As I drive on to the ferry that will take me to the island, my senses awaken with the wildness of the Texas coast. Dolphins play in the bow wave of a passing ship, pelicans perched on the bollards eye me like sentries on duty and the laughing gulls screech overhead. My destination is the Port Aransas Art Center. I am an artist, a member of the Board of Directors, a volunteer, and an all-around supporter of the Art Center. It is my home away from home. I love the spirit of the people on this small island. I think it is their closeness to mother nature and distance from the hub-bub of the big city that creates their unique culture. The art center is the embodiment of that culture. It gives me a place to share my love for the beauty of the Texas coast through my art, allows me to share knowledge and skills I have learned with others, and gives me opportunities to learn from others. My favorite time to visit the art center is the first Friday of the month when a new exhibit opens and people from all walks of life gather to celebrate art.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Center in January, 2017. Thank heaven, after the devastating hurricane of 2017, the Center survived. This nonprofit had only recently completed construction on its new building, in fact. Happily, the architect and the builder did a great job. The Center sustained only modest hurricane damage, and it was repaired and running again in no time. In fact, the Center has become a meeting place for other organizations in Port Aransas that were less fortunate. One cannot blame them for wanting to meet at the Center! It is new, clean, modern, airy, the art galleries are lovely, and there is plenty of parking. And they continue to offer delightful programs and events. The staff and Board have a very positive attitude. Please donate and support this marvelous community institution!

My husband Larry and I have been members of Port Aransas Art Center for over a decade. Larry is a watercolor artist and I am a writer. We are happy that PAAC supports all the arts. We especially admire the way it serves the entire community from its retired persons to its youngest public education students to its non-resident members. The board members are dedicated and offer hours of their own time to support PAAC projects. Mary Rose, Executive Director, provides excellent leadership. Because Port Aransas, Texas is a tourist destination on the Gulf Coast, Port Aransas Art Center is in a unique position, serving local residents, non-resident homeowners, and a multitude of tourists. They do a great job!
