Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Art Museums, Arts & Culture, Arts Education, Visual Arts

Mission: The Port Aransas Art Center is a community of artists and art patrons who value art and who are dedicated to fostering and supporting the creative process that is art. The Center provides time, space, resources and art education for an ever-increasing audience. The Port Aransas Art Center is solely supported by charitable donations, member artist sales in the gift shop, and art classes for all age groups.

Results: One of our many achievements is the construction of a spacious new facility to house the Port Aransas Art Center. Opened in late summer, 2017, the new building has received rave reviews. We are pleased the new building survived Hurricane Harvey with only light damage which was quickly repaired.

Target demographics: people of all ages and backgrounds, residents and visitors alike

Geographic areas served: Nueces County, Texas

Programs: art classes taught by expert instructors (and for all ages and experience levels), workshops (more extensive art classes), the sale of works of art by artists in our gift shop, art exhibitions (including exhibitions by students of the Port Aransas Independent School District), and a wide variety of special events held year round that help foster an appreciation of the arts, and that help build community and support.

I travel to Port Aransas from my home in Ingleside on a regular basis. As I drive on to the ferry that will take me to the island, my senses awaken with the wildness of the Texas coast. Dolphins play in the bow wave of a passing ship, pelicans perched on the bollards eye me like sentries on duty and the laughing gulls screech overhead. My destination is the Port Aransas Art Center. I am an artist, a member of the Board of Directors, a volunteer, and an all-around supporter of the Art Center. It is my home away from home. I love the spirit of the people on this small island. I think it is their closeness to mother nature and distance from the hub-bub of the big city that creates their unique culture. The art center is the embodiment of that culture. It gives me a place to share my love for the beauty of the Texas coast through my art, allows me to share knowledge and skills I have learned with others, and gives me opportunities to learn from others. My favorite time to visit the art center is the first Friday of the month when a new exhibit opens and people from all walks of life gather to celebrate art.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Center in January, 2017. Thank heaven, after the devastating hurricane of 2017, the Center survived. This nonprofit had only recently completed construction on its new building, in fact. Happily, the architect and the builder did a great job. The Center sustained only modest hurricane damage, and it was repaired and running again in no time. In fact, the Center has become a meeting place for other organizations in Port Aransas that were less fortunate. One cannot blame them for wanting to meet at the Center! It is new, clean, modern, airy, the art galleries are lovely, and there is plenty of parking. And they continue to offer delightful programs and events. The staff and Board have a very positive attitude. Please donate and support this marvelous community institution!

My husband Larry and I have been members of Port Aransas Art Center for over a decade. Larry is a watercolor artist and I am a writer. We are happy that PAAC supports all the arts. We especially admire the way it serves the entire community from its retired persons to its youngest public education students to its non-resident members. The board members are dedicated and offer hours of their own time to support PAAC projects. Mary Rose, Executive Director, provides excellent leadership. Because Port Aransas, Texas is a tourist destination on the Gulf Coast, Port Aransas Art Center is in a unique position, serving local residents, non-resident homeowners, and a multitude of tourists. They do a great job!

I started taking classes at the Art Center when I was a winter Texan for four years; now that I live here full time, I'm still taking classes and still loving it! I had never drawn a thing when I attended that first class on a whim; now I can paint! The Art Center has something for everyone - paintings, pottery, wood carvings, jewelry, classes. The people are friendly and fun, helpful and knowledgable. For this tiny resort town to have a facility like this is truly amazing! We who live here are indeed fortunate to have the Art Center!

I'am an artist in Port Aransas , TX with a working pottery studio & gallery. The art center encourages all that I do. The amount of volunteers who work and maintain the center and are so passionate about promoting the arts.. is truly amazing. This is one of the reasons I love living here. We've outgrown the facility and need to move on into a new larger area and need to raise enough money soon..an exciting time.

The Port Aransas Art Center has something for everyone! Classes are offered for every level of artist. The Center even offers art camps for children! In addition to the beautiful art available for purchase, locals and tourists can choose from handmade jewelry, pottery, note cards, and more! Monthly socials are offered on the 1st Friday of every month. I am so impressed with the dedication of the staff and volunteers who work so hard. Port Aransas may be a small town, but the talent and dedication at the Art Center is "bigger than Dallas"!

This art center is a great asset for the community. It houses a wide variety of art, something for everyone, highbrow, lowbrow and in between. A wide variety of classes are available and are open to all from the experienced artist to the person who has never held a paint brush. The art camps for children expose the kids to a wide variety of artists who are able to engage them with wonderful projects and leave them with a sense of accomplishment.

Port Aransas Art Center is a vibrant hub of creativity and enriching artistic and social experiences in a small coastal town--a community of diverse and generous people from all walks of life. The PAAC's classes and workshops, in virtually all art media, serve the interests of a wide variety of participants, of all ages, abilities and experience. It's the way it ought to be! Artists, some of whom are very accomplished and well known, have a showcase in an active tourist destination in the Texas Coastal Bend. It's a wonderful place!

The Port Aransas Art Center is a wonderful place to see art, show art, and learn art through classes and workshops. The staff and volunteers are all very friendly and helpful. I've been a member-artist for several years and I really appreciate having the opportunity to show my work along side so much talent and so many beautiful works. Since I live in Louisiana "most" of the time and Port Aransas "some" of the time, I have only been able to participate in a few workshops but thoroughly enjoyed them and hope to participate in more in the future. The First Friday events featuring several artists each month as well as paintings, sculptures, pottery, and jewelry by regular member-artists are fun. Live music, a raffle, wine, tasty treats and great folks make it an evening to look forward to!
