Review for Port Aransas Art Center, Port Aransas, TX, USA
I travel to Port Aransas from my home in Ingleside on a regular basis. As I drive on to the ferry that will take me to the island, my senses awaken with the wildness of the Texas coast. Dolphins play in the bow wave of a passing ship, pelicans perched on the bollards eye me like sentries on duty and the laughing gulls screech overhead. My destination is the Port Aransas Art Center. I am an artist, a member of the Board of Directors, a volunteer, and an all-around supporter of the Art Center. It is my home away from home. I love the spirit of the people on this small island. I think it is their closeness to mother nature and distance from the hub-bub of the big city that creates their unique culture. The art center is the embodiment of that culture. It gives me a place to share my love for the beauty of the Texas coast through my art, allows me to share knowledge and skills I have learned with others, and gives me opportunities to learn from others. My favorite time to visit the art center is the first Friday of the month when a new exhibit opens and people from all walks of life gather to celebrate art.
