Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Arts & Culture, Humanities, Printing & Publishing

Mission: As a nonprofit enterprise, Ploughshares needs the support of individual readers like you to survive. Our mission, we believe, is as necessary today as it was at the journal's inception to promote contemporary literature as a vital component of our national culture and character. Widely considered one of the most influential literary journals in the country, Ploughshares has been on the front lines of publishing since 1971. Our priority has always been to publish the very best fiction and poetry we can find, from established and emerging writers alike. Every year, stories and poems from Ploughshares have been included in anthologies such as Best American Short Stories, Best American Poetry, The Pushcart Prize, and The O. Henry Awards, among others.
